Exclusive: The new Bosch spinoff series centering on Renée Ballard is rounding out its cast, adding Ricardo Chavira, Noah Bean, Alain Uy and Hector Hugo in recurring roles. They join previously announced series regulars Maggie Q, Courtney Taylor, John Carroll Lynch, Michael Mosley, Rebecca Field, Victoria Moroles and Amy Hill.
The untitled series follows Detective Renée Ballard (Q), who is tasked with running the LAPD’s new cold case division — a poorly funded, all-volunteer unit with the largest caseload in the city. Ballard approaches these frozen-in-time cases with empathy and determination. When she uncovers a larger conspiracy during her investigations, she’ll lean on the assistance of her retired ally, Harry Bosch, to navigate the dangers that threaten both her unit and her life.
Chavira will play Detective Robert Olivas, a well-respected, charming and charismatic detective, who shares a complicated past with Ballard.

Amazon is adding another actor to its expanding Bosch universe.
John Carroll Lynch has joined the third show in the franchise, centering on LAPD detective Renée Ballard (to be played by Maggie Q). The untitled series, which will stream on Prime Video, follows Ballard as she takes on running the department’s cold case division — an underfunded, all-volunteer unit with a huge case load. The character has appeared in several of Bosch author Michael Connelly’s novels.
Lynch (American Horror Story, Big Sky) will play Thomas Laffont, a retired former partner of Ballard’s who comes back to help her run the the department. He’s a kind, seasoned detective and crack interrogator.
The spinoff — one of two additional shows set in the same world as both Bosch and Bosch: Legacy — will be set up in the season three finale of the latter series, which is likely to premiere later this year.

The Prime Minister said on Friday that this was the clear message from the technology handshake event at the White House earlier in the day in which he and President Joe Biden met leading CEOs from the US and India, which included Google’s Sundar Pichai, Microsoft’s Satya Nadella, OpenAI’s Sam Alt (of ChatGPT fame), Fmc Corporation’s Mark Douglas on the American side, and Reliance’s Mukesh Ambani and Mahindra’s Anand Mahindra.
The event sent a clear message to the companies, the businesses, the manufacturers, the innovators of both countries, and that message is: "This is the moment. This is the moment. The governments of India and America have done the groundwork for you all. You know, like you plough the field, we’ve done that. And whatever else is needed further we will keep doing it for you all. However, it is now your responsibility to wholeheartedly play,...

Is America ready for the free, ad-supported TV set? Ilya Pozin, the co-founder of Pluto TV (the free, ad-supported streaming service now owned by Paramount), sure thinks so.
On Monday, Pozin officially unveiled Telly, a company that plans to ultimately give away millions of premium TV sets, for free (its online reservation system opened Monday morning for an initial batch of 500,000 sets).
“For too long, consumers have not been an equal part of the advertising value exchange,” Pozin says. “Companies are making billions of dollars from ads served on televisions, yet consumers have historically had to pay for both the TV and the content they watch. All of that changes today. When I co-founded Pluto TV, we created an entirely new model that offered amazing TV content to viewers for free. Now, with Telly, we are providing the actual television for free as well.”

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively are loving life after the arrival of their fourth child. Earlier this week, the 46-year-old actor appeared on CNBC’s “Power Lunch”, and gave an update on his and his wife’s life as a family of six.
Reynolds and Lively, who tied the knot in 2012, are parents to James, 8, Inez, 6, and Betty, 3. News of their latest addition’s arrival broke earlier this month, though no details about baby number four have been shared.
“We’re very excited. Look, we wouldn’t do this four times if we didn’t love it,” Reynolds said. “Everybody’s doing great. Everybody’s actually doing fantastic. If we hadn’t figured it out by now, I think we’d be in deep, deep trouble.”
“It’s a zoo over here,” he added during the virtual appearance on the show, before joking, “This is my office here. To be honest,...

Barely Political has been releasing videos on YouTube for eight years, and over that time period, the channel’s focus has changed considerably. In order to better represent the channel’s current direction, co-stars Todd Womack and Mark Douglas have announced a rebranding effort: Barely Political will now be known as Barely Productions.
Barely Political began as a home for political satire; the channel’s first-ever video, “Crush on Obama,” went viral after its release and catapulted the “Obama Girl” to national prominence. More recently, though, Barely Political has better known for other projects, especially the song parodies it hosts as part of the Key of Awesome web series. “We haven’t made political videos in a long time,” explains Douglas in a video introducing the channel’s new name.
The switch to Barely Productions is purely a cosmetic change. The channel will still serve as a home for all of its series,...

As has become a yearly VidCon tradition, Barely Political has used its YouTube channel for an airing of grievances. The comedy hub helmed by Mark Douglas and Todd Womack has released YouTube Complaints 2014, in which a constant stream of guest stars collectively crabs about the problems facing YouTube today. As in previous years, the YouTube Complaints are a mix of significant issues and light-hearted parody. The video brings up the round-the-clock nature of YouTuber life, the occasional choppiness of the site's live streams, and, of course, the Google+ problem. At the same time, it takes satirical aim at the excessive number of Frozen covers on YouTube, the "sheepish" nature of the site's British vloggers, and the overwhelming popularity of the "Let's Play" genre of gaming videos. Mark and Todd make multiple appearances in the video, and they're joined along the way by plenty of familiar faces. Guests in this year's...

President Barack Obama can now count a handful of YouTube stars among his top advisors. On Thursday, February 27, 2014, Hannah Hart of My Drunk Kitchen and Camp Takota; Tyler Oakley of being awesome on the internet; Iman Crosson, who the online video and Vine worlds know as Alphacat; Michael Stevens of VSauce; Benny and Rafi Fine of The Fine Bros. (and a possible Nickelodeon TV series); Mark Douglas, Todd Womack, and Ben Relles of YouTube’s very own Barely Political; Peter Shuckoff and Lloyd Ahlquist of Epic Rap Battles of History; and Mickey Meyer and Daniel Kellison of burgeoning online comedy network Jash all sat around a large conference table with the 44th President of the United States for the better part of an hour, discussing ways in which the White House could do a better job of reaching the YouTube generation. The meeting wasn’t about any single topic (though...

YouTube Comedy Week is still going strong, with a wide array of videos composing the event's Thursday slate. In what seems to be a trend, the day's videos once again included mostly new media creators after a Wednesday slate that included many efforts from traditional media stars. As per usual, a rundown of the day's videos can be seen in a roundup video hosted by Todd Womack and Mark Douglas from The Key of Awesome. This time, they feature a clip from Evan Gregory, whose new video we featured yesterday. As was the case on Tuesday, many of Thursday's highlights were regularly scheduled videos from YouTube channels. One of the most fun offerings is a YouTubers React episode where a bunch of people whose videos you've seen before try not to laugh at funny videos. I'm grateful that The Fine Bros are giving 'Guy Runs Into Wall' the exposure it deserves.
