Abby Lee Miller has never been one to hold back—especially when it comes to defending her students. And when Maddie Ziegler, her former star pupil, was offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, Abby made it clear that nothing would stand in the way.

Showing Strong Support To Students

In an exclusive conversation with E! News’ Francesca Amiker, the Dance Moms alum revealed just how far she was willing to go to support Maddie’s career.

“I quit my job many times,” Abby admitted. “The first time I quit and said, ‘Get your stuff, get out of my building,’ was when they didn’t want Maddie to go do the Sia video.”

At just 11 years old, Maddie was selected to star in Sia’s Chandelier music video—a project that would later become a defining moment in her career. However, according to Abby, the show’s producers weren’t on board.

While Jojo Siwa may want to stir online drama with her looks and music, she does not want it to exist between her and her fellow co-stars. And yet that’s exactly what the producers of ‘Dance Moms: The Reunion’ wanted her to do on the show.

“There was a few times on the reunion where the producers tried to do some shady s**t,” she recalled, adding that she felt producers wanted unnecessary drama to exist between her and her fellow former stars — Kalani Hilliker, Kendall Vertes, Chloé Lukasiak, Paige Hyland, and Brooke Hyland.

The Dance Moms stars have a love-hate relationship with the pyramid. Abby Lee Miller notoriously ranked her Aldc dancers on her infamous pyramid during the Lifetime show’s run. Now, the stars of the reality series are putting some much-needed fun into the pyramid ranking. Dance Moms alums Kalani Hilliker, Brooke Hyland, Paige Hyland, and Kendall Vertes stopped by TV Insider’s studio to chat about the Dance Moms reunion and do a pyramid ranking of notable dance movies. Dance Moms Set for Lifetime Reunion, but Don't Expect Abby Lee Miller to Return
Dance Moms (2011)
Once upon a time, Dance Moms was one of the biggest hits on cable TV.

Now, Lifetime is attempting to capitalize on its success with a reunion special set to air in 2014.

Airing from 2011-2019, the hit series focused on Abby Lee Miller as she ran her Abby Lee Dance Company.

That entailed her coaching a team as they learned their dances and competed in tournaments.

The series' success probably stemmed from the drama between Miller and the contestants' parents.

If you watch Dance Moms online, you know what we mean: Abby had countless spats with the parents throughout the show's eight-season run.

Much of the arguments ranged from Abby's treatment of the children to parents being displeased about creative choices from Abby.

It was a lot, and now, it's time for some of the show's most famous faces to return and unpack all of that drama.

Details about the...

Previously on Dance Moms, Kalani hurt her back, and Brynn and Maddie did a routine together that obviously ticked off all of the moms. Listen, Dance Moms -- Ashlee might be a huge pain to deal with, but her kid seems pretty sweet and talented. Don't take the Ashlee anger out on Brynn.

At the Aldc La, the show breaks a wall by showing the sound engineers. Abby and the key moms haven't arrived yet, leaving the kids confused. Without the moms around, the girls aren't allowed to film. That is, except for Brynn and Ashlee, since Ashlee actually showed up. "I have no idea where they are," Ashlee says, sad that the other moms left her out of playing hooky. At least showing up shows she's committed, right?...

'Dance Moms' Recap: Will Abby's Return Make a Difference?
Dance Moms (2011)
Last time on Dance Moms, Nia and Kalani got some extra special attention from the Debbie Allen Dance Academy, which was necessary to help re-build their self-esteem after Abby Lee Miller once again left the girls in the dust. It seems like this time we might actually see some more Abby, and it's probably based on some kind of obligation based on her contract with Lifetime.

"Last week, Abby locked the studio doors," Jill says in this episode, "Abby's New Favorites." However, due to social media, the mothers were aware that classes were still going on. Jessalynn is straight with Abby, asking if Abby is still interested in running the competition team. "Um, no," Abby responds after a pause. Even though she's checked out, she still expects the girls to be working their hardest. "Why aren't they warming up?" Abby retaliates. The moms can all agree for once that this...

A win for Abby Lee: Dance Moms Season 6 premieres January 5 on Lifetime
So much for the theory that her recent spate of legal dramas might keep Abby Lee Miller and Lifetime apart. The network officially announced today that Miller’s reality fiasco Dance Moms will return for Season 6 in its usual Tuesday night time slot beginning Jan. 5, 2016. According to Lifetime, the new season will focus on Miller’s Los Angeles studio and a new “Mini Elite Competition Team” tutored by the older girls — presumably Kendall, Mackenzie, Maddie, Nia, Kalani and JoJo — who are ordered to focus on nothing but dance. Which is weird. Because I thought Miller had set her sights on … Continue reading →

'Dance Moms' Season 5 Finale Recap: Does the Aldc Remain Undefeated at Nationals?
Dance Moms (2011)
Previously on Dance Moms, Nia beat Kalani, but not without controversy. Abby planned on having the girls compete head-to-head to see who would be the soloist at Nationals. Once Nia won, it threw a wrench into her entire scheme. It looked as though Nia's hard work was all for nothing. The Aldc is undefeated when it comes to Nationals. They have won all five years they've gone to the competition.

Going into the season 5 finale, "Chaos at Nationals," we're still not sure what the line-up looks like. When it comes to Dance Moms, there is only one sure thing we all know -- Maddie will dance, unless she's helping Sia.

'Dance Moms' Recap: Will We Find Out Who Dances at Nationals?
Dance Moms (2011)
Previously on Dance Moms -- by now, you should know the drill -- Abby continued her bracket-style-elimination-dance-dance-revolution-dance-off-battle to see who gets to perform a solo at Nationals. And Kendall dropped the scarf she was dancing with during her routine, securing Maddie's spot in the competition.

Thank Beyonce that Nationals is only one week away because this pseudo-tournament to determine who Abby chooses to perform is becoming tiresome. In this episode, "Nia vs. Kalani: Winner Takes All," we're down to the final match-up. At this point, It's insulting to viewers and downright wrong for the girls involved because it's clear that Abby will handpick who she wants to see perform. The whole dance-off thing is a charade. However, the recap must go on.

Kalani Hilliker
'Dance Moms' Recap: JoJo and Kendall Dance for a Spot at Nationals
Kalani Hilliker
Previously on Dance Moms, Kira brought in an outsider to choreograph Kalani's competition solo. She was already on thin ice with Abby, and this caused the ice to break. Kalani was pulled from performing in the group dance because her age would have pushed the group into an older division. When it was all said and done, Kira decided to pull Kalani from the studio completely.

The Aldc might be down one dancer, but the show must go on! Nationals is just around the corner. It's time to start weeding out the weakest links to see who will perform in the ultimate competition.

Dance Moms Season 5 episode 23 recap: Chica Mica Meet Laquifa!
Welcome back to Discord Central, Dance Moms nation. Everyone recovered from all of the drama (bra-ma?) that went down at the end of last week’s episode? Good. Because this bad boy is nothing short of a snooze. We start out with a little confab among the girls in which they discuss whether Kalani is really gone for good and what is going on with Abby and the shout-fest that was last week’s competition. Meanwhile, the Moms are in the Mom Closet talking about pretty much the same stuff. Bad feelings. Bad feelings abound. Let’s see if Gia has something reassuring … Continue reading →

'Dance Moms' Recap: Abby Faces Her Toughest Match Yet
Dance Moms (2011)
The Aldc is having a rough time in California. Abby always seems to be a little off when the team is in La, and it always seems to be slightly less sunny in the sunshine state. The team is coming off two weeks of losses on Dance Moms, and it doesn't appear as though things are going to get brighter anytime soon.

We start off this episode, "Abby vs. Kira," as always, with the pyramid. At the bottom of the pyramid is Kendall, then JoJo because she didn't turn as well, McKenzie, Nia and Kalani -- and Maddie regains the top spot due to her performance in the group dance.

'Dance Moms' Recap: Is Abby Pitting Holly and Jill Against Each Other?
Dance Moms (2011)
In this episode of Dance Moms, "Maddie vs. Kalani," tensions mount between Jill and Holly as Kendall prepares to shoot her music video. The Aldc faces a formidable foe. And Maddie gets another high-profile gig.

Even though the girls won their first group competition, Abby is not happy. This pyramid is all about critiquing their technique, and even Maddie doesn't escape unscathed. Kendall rocked her solo and was the overall high scorer, so she got to be on top, a rare occurrence for any of the dancers other than Maddie.

'Dance Moms' Recap: The Aldc Faces an Old Foe
Dance Moms (2011)
In this episode of Dance Moms, "The New Maddie?", Abby shakes things up by bringing in a possible replacement for Maddie. Cathy is convinced that she can beat Abby after the Aldc's disappointing trip to Los Angeles. Holly's frustration over Abby's treatment of Nia continues. Dance mom Ashlee finally arrives in Pittsburgh with her daughter, and the latest "addition" to the Aldc.

Kalani beats out Maddie for the top spot on the pyramid because she received the highest overall score in the teen division and the highest-scoring soloist that day. Looks like Kira made the right choice in not making a big stink over her daughter getting pulled at the last minute from the group dance.

Dance Moms Season 5 episode 7 recap: To Matty B or Not to Matty B
It’s our last week in L.A. Dance Moms nation and Abby says it’s gonna be a big one. More choreography than ever to contend with (which makes Melissa suck her teeth) and we’re down a major player. Our Maddie is guest starring – like, legit, acting —on Disney’s Austin and Ally and that, people, is a honkin’ deal. It also means we need a swing for the team; let’s meet our prospective swingers now! Oh hey, Sarah and Tracey. Back for more punishment, huh? How exciting! Right, Sarah?! Right. Kira’s equally excited. Both Sarah and Mystery Girl are from Kalani’s original studio … Continue reading →

Dance Moms recap Season 5 Episode 4: What’s My Age Again?
Déjà vu all over again, Dance Moms faithful. Jojo’s back. Kalani’s back. I’m back. We’re going back to Woodbridge, Va. Anybody else besides me starting to tick off how fast the years are going by not by our own birthdays but by how quickly we return to Virginia? And New Jersey. And Ohio. Oh please let us return to Ohio. If I have to come back to this, so do you, Cathy Nesbitt-Stein. We start out with Abby sporting some serious Something About Mary bangs … …and then with some pretty tough news. Nia’s Grandpa Frazier is on borrowed time … Continue reading →

Dance Moms Season 4 episode 8 recap: Come On Over For Whine And Cheese
The Face of the Abby Lee Dance Company has changed, Dance Moms nation. Kelly’s, Paige’s and Brooke’s are officially gone by virtue of an “official letter” from Abby’s new deer-in-the-headlights receptionist (well and also, you know, those pesky lawsuits). Kalani’s and Kira’s are here to stay, even though we’re not technically supposed to know that yet … even though Abby said it on The View a month ago. Life was so much easier when I was willful in my ignorance. Kalani is also the top of the pyramid, I’m guessing by virtue of being the only one whose last name … Continue reading →
