One of the best feelings in the world is discovering a series or a movie that you didn’t know about and realizing how distinct it is from anything else out there. Since working at JoBlo.com, I have been lucky enough to come across several series that I enjoyed and got to tell you about them. Sometimes, I am lucky enough to talk to the talent involved about the project and how it came to be. Such is the case with the new Peacock series, Leopard Skin. After watching the excellent series Jett, creator/director Sebastian Gutierrez and star Carla Gugino were kind enough to let me know about their latest project, this half-hour crime series that debuted on Peacock recently (check out our review).

Leopard Skin can be categorized as a heist series, a thriller, a drama, or any number of labels but it thrives by not being locked down to one genre.

Plot: A criminal gang takes two women and their guests hostage when they seek shelter in a remote paradise, where secrets, betrayals and desires bubble to the surface as everyone awaits their fate.

Review: Never underestimate a well-crafted heist. A masterfully constructed plan, whether or not it goes awry, is always a sight to behold. Like a Rube-Goldberg Device or painstakingly arranged rows of dominoes, I am a sucker for a good heist story. Over the years, film and television have played home to stellar examples of this but many are focused on trying to one-up what came before rather than revel in the story itself. Sebastian Gutierrez’s latest project, the Peacock original series Leopard Skin, is a prime example of the pulpy fun you can get out of a heist and its aftermath by pitting a group of characters opposite one another with only the prospect of survival driving them.

A group of diamond thieves get more than they bargained for in Leopard Skin. The psychological thriller series sees the group fleeing a botched robbery and taking refuge in an isolated beach house occupied by two women, whose complicated relationship could bring their own plans of escape to a standstill.

Carla Gugino leads the cast of Leopard Skin alongside Gaite Jansen, Nora Arnezeder, Gentry White, Margot Bingham, Amelia Eve, Philip Winchester, Ana de la Reguera, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Reuniting Gugino with Jett creator, and real-life partner Sebastián Gutiérrez, the series proves to be a unique blend of cat-and-mouse thriller with surreal character drama.

Peacock’s upcoming crime thriller series Leopard Skin, starring Carla Gugino (The Haunting of Hill House), Amelia Eve (The Haunting of Bly Manor), and Ana de la Reguera (Narcos), has debuted a steamy new trailer. Screen Rant is thrilled to exclusively share the exciting trailer of Peacock's new crime thriller Leopard Skin, which arrives on the streaming service thanks to NBCUniversal's partnership with Telemundo. The series follows a criminal gang, made up of Nora Arnezeder (Safe House), Gentry White (UnREAL), and Margot Bingham (The Walking Dead), who abscond from a jewelry heist gone wrong. In need of a place to hide out while the heat dies down, they bust in on a beachside estate and discover the occupants inside.

The owners of the estate include Alba and Batty, who have been living in seclusion. Once the robbery crew takes over the house, things only get more complicated and tensions rise among the cohabitants as guests arrive and are also taken hostage. All eight episodes of Leopard Skin premiere on Peacock on November 17.

What To Expect...

Carla Gugino’s upcoming drama “Leopard Skin” and Roselyn Sánchez’s “‘Til Jail Do Us Part” are among the slate of new original series heading to Peacock that TheWrap can exclusively reveal the premiere dates for.

“‘Til Jail Do Us Part,” a Spanish-language dramedy starring Sánchez, Kate del Castillo, Jeimy Osorio and Sylvia Sáenz, will debut Sept. 15.

The show will follow four women who “suffer their worst nightmare after the police arrest their husbands for being linked to the same criminal organization. Accustomed to a life of abundance, they now must join forces in the most unusual manner as they move from a carefree life of luxury to unleashing all their wiles and weapons to survive,” per a logline from the streamer.

“Leopard Skin,” starring Gugino, Amelia Eve, Gentry White, Philip Winchester, Margot Bingham, Gaite Jansen, Nora Arnezeder and Ana de la Reguera, makes its Peacock debut Nov. 17.

Carla Gugino, who recently starred in The Haunting of Bly Manor, will front a television crime thriller for AGC Television.

The company, which makes Epix’s War of the Worlds, is producing and financing Leopard Skin with production underway in the Dominican Republic.

There is no network attached yet and AGC will begin discussions with broadcast and streaming partners when the show is in post-production.

The series comes from Sebastian Gutierrez, who wrote the screenplay for Snakes on a Plane and created Cinemax series Jett. He serves as showrunner with Lantica Studios providing production services

Production has begun in Dominican Republic on AGC Television’s crime thriller Leopard Skin which Sebastian Gutierrez is directing from his screenplay.

Carla Gugino leads an ensemble cast on the story about a gang who flee a botched heist and seek refuge in a beachside estate where two women live in seclusion, triggering secrets, betrayal and desire.

The cast includes Amelia Eve (The Haunting Of Bly Manor), Gentry White (Palm Springs), Philip Winchester (Law & Order: Svu), Margot Bingham (The Walking Dead), Gaite Jansen (Peaky Blinders), Nora Arnezeder (Mozart In The Jungle), and Ana de la Reguera.

One of the joys of “Jett” is watching its title character think five steps ahead of anyone else in the room. Even in conversation, the audience can see her look past whoever she’s speaking to, plotting out all her possible moves.

So it’s a bit surprising when “Jett” ends its first season with Carla Gugino looking directly at the camera, as Jett wordlessly works through how to deal with the recent kidnapping of her daughter. For writer/director Sebastian Gutierrez, that last look — echoing the final moments of the show’s first episode — was the only way he wanted the nine-episode season to draw to a close.

“Jett is nothing if not practical. And tactical. It’s always interesting to have someone who is so good at planning contingencies and potential scenarios be put in situations where at some point, that will all go out the window,” Gutierrez said via email.

Cinemax TV shows typically attract very low ratings but the cable channel doesn't sell commercial time so the programmers are more interested in satisfying subscribers. Can Jett, Cinemax's newest drama series attract enough attention to warrant a second season renewal or, will this show be cancelled, instead? Stay tuned.

The following review is spoiler-free for Jett.

There’s a certain amount of realistic chaos in Cinemax’s Jett that some fans of organized crime thrillers will appreciate and others will find daunting. Without a doubt, the performances of Carla Gugino, Giancarlo Esposito, and others are top notch, and the machinations that Gugino’s title character, Daisy “Jett” Kowalski, must go through to extract herself from the difficulties she finds herself in boost our opinion of the skill and professionalism the show’s antihero possesses. Although the series jumping around in time can be confusing at times, the practice usually has a context, and those that stick around for at least three of the nine episodes will find their tenacity rewarded as the overall picture starts to coalesce.

Carla Gugino’s first job as a TV series regular was playing Michael J. Fox’s reporter girlfriend Ashley on Spin City in 1996. It was a big break that instead broke bad: The show’s creators quickly realized Ashley was a distraction from the funnier workplace scenes, and Gugino was let go after a dozen episodes. So thorough was her erasure from the series that an Ashley subplot was removed from a rerun that aired not long after Gugino’s last episode, replaced by previously-cut footage featuring other characters who were still on the show.

Carla Gugino has long been a respected film actress but is now beginning to attract for television work following her successful turns in The Haunting of Hill House and Gerald's Game

Gugino will play Daisy “Jett” Kowalski. Fresh out of prison, Jett is forced back into a life of crime, once again getting involved with the eccentric criminals of her past. Gugino will also executive produce alongside Mark Stern, Stuart Ford, Dana Brunetti, and Stacey Levin. Jett is created, written, and directed by Sebastian Gutierrez.

Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul’s Giancarlo Esposito is set for a lead role opposite star Carla Gugino in Cinemax’s straight-to-series drama Jett, from Gothika scribe Sebastian Gutierrez. Also cast as series regulars are Elena Anaya, Michael Aronov, Gaite Jansen, Chris Backus, Gil Bellows and Violet McGraw. Jodie Turner-Smith, Gentry White, Lucy Walters and Mustafa Shakir are set for recurring roles.

Esposito, who has a one-year deal on Jett, is coming off a two-season series regular turn on Better Call Saul, reprising his popular Breaking Bad character of Gustavo “Gus” Fring. That includes Season 3 and the upcoming fourth season, debuting Aug. 9, which already has been shot. I hear that while Esposito has has no deal in place beyond that, he could return to the AMC series should it get renewed for a fifth season, with the production schedule of Jett allowing for that.

Although there was some worry The Shannara Chronicles TV show would be cancelled by MTV, it was eventually renewed for a second season. Parent company Viacom then began shuffling programs between its stations (including Bet, Cmt, TV Land, VH1, and MTV) and announced Shannara was moving to Spike, which would rebrand as Paramount Network in the coming year.
