Joey King's New Netflix Sci-Fi Movie Fails To Break Her Disappointing 6-Year Rotten Tomatoes Streak
Image
Joey King's Netflix sci-fi film Uglies dropped on September 13, and, unfortunately, its reviews are abysmal, meaning the actress' poor Rotten Tomatoes streak continues. King got her start as a child actress, with her breakout role coming when she starred as Ramona Quimby in Ramona and Beezus in 2010. She gained further recognition when she signed on to play Elle Evans in The Kissing Booth movie series, and King's performance as Gypsy Rose Blanchard in The Act was critically acclaimed and earned her an Emmy nomination. Despite her successes, King has fallen victim to starring in poorly-rated movies.

Joey King's highest-rated movie on Rotten Tomatoes is The Conjuring, which has an 86 percent Tomatometer score and an 83 percent Popcornmeter score. Meanwhile, King's lowest-rated film is Slender Man, which has an eight percent Tomatometer score and a 17 percent Popcornmeter score.

Uglies has received negative reviews, but the film is adapted from the popular...

Uglies Cast & Character Guide
Image
Netflix's Uglies tackles important concepts in a dystopian future and utilizes an excellent cast of actors to do so. The movie, based on the popular YA book series by Scott Westerfeld, was a long time coming, with announcements of a film adaptation first announced way back in 2006. Unfortunately, something always seemed to fall throughuntil actor Joey King went to bat to make this project happen. Now, Uglies is finally a reality on Netflix, with star King joined by talented castmates like Chase Stokes, Keith Powers, Brianne Tju, and more.

Uglies follows Tally Youngblood, a teen who lives in a world nearly destroyed by humanity's dependence on fossil fuels. When Earth's cities were rebuilt, it was determined that every citizen would undergo a procedure on their 16th birthday that would make them flawlessly beautiful. Lovely and happy, these people never caused problems, demonstrated greed, or started wars and, therefore, lived in paradise.

Joey King's Popular New Netflix Movie Continues A Disappointing Streak After Divisive 6-Year-Old Rom-Com Trilogy
Image
Joey King stars in Netflix's A Family Affair, continuing her streak of poorly reviewed Netflix films after the Kissing Booth trilogy. Despite negative reviews, A Family Affair became the number-one movie on Netflix. Critics find the film predictable but praise the cast's performances, highlighting a divide in opinions.

Joey King stars in the hit Netflix film A Family Affair, and despite its popularity on the streaming service, it also adds to one of the actress' most discouraging trends. The 2024 rom-com, directed by Richard Lagravenese and written by Carrie Solomon, chronicles the complications that arise when King's character, Zara, finds her mother, Brooke, played by Nicole Kidman, hooking up with her nightmare of a boss, Chris, played by Zac Efron. Chris is a self-absorbed movie star, and Zara is his young assistant who is waiting for Chris to promote her. However, Brooke uncovers a different side to Chris.

10 Underrated Witch Movies If You Love Practical Magic

Famous witch movies like Practical Magic and The Craft explore different aspects of witchcraft, from family dynamics to darker occult themes. Image
Joey King Once Went Candid About Reuniting With Ex-Boyfriend Jacob Elordi For The Kissing Booth 2!(Photo Credit –IMDb)

The Kissing Booth film series, starring Joey King and Jacob Elordi, has often been termed a cult classic by rom-com lovers. However, recently, Elordi discredited the franchise by saying he didn’t want to make those films. His criticism of the trilogy did not go down well with many Hollywood stars, including his co-star, King, who has now said that it’s unfortunate that anyone would feel that way.

Joey and Jacob starred as love interests in the Kissing Booth movies. The three-part film series ran from 2018 to 2021. The lead pair dated in real life from 2017 to 2018, and their whirlwind romance grabbed many eyeballs, with tabloids dubbing them as the new power couple of Hollywood. During the filming of the second film, the on-screen couple had already broken up off-screen, which...

‘Kissing Booth’ Star Taylor Zakhar Perez Responds to Jacob Elordi Criticizing Their Netflix Films: ‘It’s a Shame That Was His Experience’
Image
“The Kissing Booth” actor Taylor Zakhar Perez says he was surprised by co-star Jacob Elordi’s criticism of the rom-com franchise.

“I thought it was a shame because to my knowledge, everybody else had such a wonderful experience,” Perez told me Thursday at the GQ Men of the Year party at Bar Marmont in West Hollywood.

“It’s a shame that was his experience on the set. Especially when those movies came out, it was a time when we really needed something like that,” he said, alluding to the Covid pandemic. “I know from our fan interactions, getting stopped everywhere I go, what ‘Kissing Booth’ means to people and what it brought them during such a dark time. I guess the silver lining is he still made people laugh and feel good.”

Elordi sparked headlines earlier this week by bashing the franchise in his GQ Men of the Year cover story.

Jacob Elordi calls ‘The Kissing Booth’ trilogy ‘ridiculous’

Actor Jacob Elordi doesn’t look back fondly on the experience of working on ‘The Kissing Booth’ trilogy despite the trilogy launching his career. Jacob, 26, reflected on his 2018 breakout role in the first film of the teen romance trilogy for GQ’s Men of the Year issue, reports People magazine.

The actor said: “I didn’t want to make those movies before I made those movies. Those movies are ridiculous. They’re not universal. They’re an escape”.

The films were adapted from Beth Reekles’ 2012 novel of the same name.

As per People, he played bad boy football star Noah Flynn in the films, the love interest of leading lady Elle Evans (Joey King) and older brother of her best friend, Lee Flynn (Joel Courtney).

Jacob Elordi's résumé is impressive, given the actor's relatively short career. Born and raised in Brisbane, Australia, Elordi always knew he wanted to be an actor. According to a 2022 GQ cover story, he idolized actors like Marlon Brando and Heath Ledger, which sparked his interest in performing. At the age of 12, he started acting in school plays, and by the time he was 17, he landed his first film gig as an extra in "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" (2017), per Just Jared. The following year, he starred in "Swinging Safari" and Netflix's "The Kissing Booth," which launched him into stardom in an instant and opened many doors for him to star in other works, including the acclaimed HBO series by Sam Levinson, "Euphoria," which will return for a third season in 2025.

‘The Kissing Booth 3’ Review: Hit Netflix Franchise Gets a Gratuitous Send-Off Kiss
Image
How many movies does it take to tell a story about high school senior Elle Evans (Joey King) trying to decide whether to honor her friendship to lifelong bestie Lee (Joel Courtney) or break the “rules” by dating his smoking-hot older brother, Noah (Jacob Elordi)? If you’re Netflix — the content factory that milked “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” for its full trilogy potential — then the answer is three, obviously. Except the makers of “The Kissing Booth” didn’t have a solid book series to fall back on, nor a compelling romantic rivalry to stretch across multiple movies.

What they did have was the data to suggest audiences wanted more. I too wanted more — less of the same, but a little substance for a change. How great would it be if Elle found enough self-respect to pursue her own dreams, rather than deciding her future according to which...

Joey King, Joel Courtney, and Jacob Elordi in The Kissing Booth (2018)
The Kissing Booth 3 Review: The End of An Era
Joey King, Joel Courtney, and Jacob Elordi in The Kissing Booth (2018)
It's the end of an era, and it's never easy to say goodbye.

Netflix's original romantic comedies The Kissing Booth and To All the Boys were popular since they began in 2018, but both high-school rom-coms closed out their adventures this year.

Based on teenage writer Beth Reekle's novels, The Kissing Booth franchise has been a hit. In the first two Netflix films, we watched Noah and Elle's secret love affair and how they dealt with long-distance when tempted with other crushes.

In The Kissing Booth 3, Elle Evans made one of the hardest decisions of her life and chose where to attend college and broke one of the Flynn brothers' hearts.

Picking up around two months after The Kissing Booth 2, a series of romantic montages caught us up on the lives of Noah and Elle and Lee and Rachel before heading into the film's main arc.

Sad News, Netflix Fans: The Kissing Booth Franchise Will Indeed End With the Third Film
Image
Elle Evans (Joey King) has some big decisions to make before she heads off to college, starting with which campus she wants to call home for the next four years. Will she follow friendship rule No. 19, "Always go to the same school as your bestie," or will she move to Boston with her hunky boyfriend, Noah (Jacob Elordi)? If she chooses Berkeley, will she and Noah's relationship survive another year of long distance? And then, of course, there's Marco (Taylor Zakhar Perez), who's still vying for Elle's heart. Elle has a lot to sort through in The Kissing Booth 3, and with so many life changes on the horizon, you might wonder if we'll see a fourth movie with Elle at her selected college.

Sadly, the third film will be the final installment in The Kissing Booth series. In Netflix's 2021 film preview, King confirmed that The Kissing Booth 3 is where Elle,...

‘The Kissing Booth 3’ Review: Netflix’s Icky YA Rom-Com Trilogy Finds Its Forgettable Finale
Image
Netflix’s “The Kissing Booth” franchise began with sexist and retrograde attitudes toward its high school-age lead characters, then evolved into a collection of romantic tropes and tricks that give the genre a bad name. Now we are left with the final insult: Three films in, this series still doesn’t get its leading lady. In the face of icky writing, limp directing, awful pacing, horrific green screen, and terrible jokes, star Joey King spent three film adaptations of Beth Reeckles’ YA novels injecting heart and humor into her Elle Evans. Still,

Where last summer’s “The Kissing Booth 2” improved upon the series’ ostensible comedic bent and allowed King to shine, the franchise’s conclusion doubles down on its worst elements. At least it’s over, but series filmmaker Vince Marcello won’t let it stop without another overstuffed, 113-minute entry, complete with a bizarre postscript meant to leave...

Netflix’s ‘The Kissing Booth’ and ‘To All the Boys’ Franchises Will End This Year

Sad news for fans of Netflix’s “The Kissing Booth” and “To All the Boys” franchises – both will be coming to a close this year.

Along with Netflix’s announcement of its 2021 movie slate, the streaming platform confirmed that each franchise’s third film — “The Kissing Booth 3” and “To All the Boys: Always and Forever, Lara Jean” — will be the last.

Both of the rom-com trilogies have performed extremely well on the platform. Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos called the original “Kissing Booth” film, which released in 2018, one of the most-watched movies in the country, with one in three viewers re-watching the film. “Kissing Booth 2,” which premiered on July 24, 2020, was the third-most viewed release on Netflix that weekend, and became one of its most popular titles of the year. Painting and horror movies do occasionally meet and create something great. Recently Velvet Buzzsaw and Bliss have both been well received while covering the art world and blending it with some weird and twisted horror. Legend of the Muse tries to lead down a similar path.

We meet a painter, Adam (Riley Egan) who suddenly gets inspiration when he meets a ‘mythical and deadly spirit from Celtic lore who becomes his muse and lover’. His artwork starts to get noticed but the spirit brings along a whole host of other problems. Mainly that she murders people and leaves Adam to clear up the mess.

Leitch and Kelly McCormick will produce “Bullet Train” through 87North, along with Antoine Fuqua. Kat Samick is executive producing with Ryosuke Saegusa and Yuma Terada of Ctb Inc., who represent Isak.

A date hasn’t been set yet for the production. Sony has been keeping plot details and character descriptions under wraps.

King broke out in 2018 in Netflix’s teen romantic comedy franchise “The Kissing Booth” as Elle Evans, opposite Jacob Elordi and Joel Courtney. “The Kissing Booth 2” debuted on July 24 on Netflix and the streaming service recently announced a third movie that will launch in 2021.

Icymi, Joey King and Jacob Elordi Broke Up Way Before Filming The Kissing Booth 2
Image
The Kissing Booth stars Joey King and Jacob Elordi met for the first time while filming their monster Netflix hit in 2017 and started dating pretty quickly. These two dated for around two years before calling it quits. In a March 2019 interview with Refinery29, Joey opened up about her relationship - and dealing with the aftermath of a breakup - with Jacob, saying, "All you can really do at that point is shut your phone off and crawl into your sister's bed and watch Friends with her, because when you're going through something and the world wants to go through it with you or [wants] to get every piece of detail from you about it, it's really difficult. Some of these things are just meant for you."

Joey and Jacob's breakup came before the two reunited to film The Kissing Booth 2 in late summer 2019. Because we don't know exactly when the relationship ended,...

Why Elle and Lee From The Kissing Booth 2 May Need to Take a Look at Their Friendship
Image
One of the best parts of The Kissing Booth and The Kissing Booth 2 is the friendship between Elle Evans (Joey King) and Lee Flynn (Joel Courtney). Their bond is the strongest in both films, but it comes at the expense of their other relationships, namely with Rachel (Meganne Young) and Noah (Jacob Elordi). If you recall, in the first movie, Elle asks Lee what he would do if she didn't like who he was in a relationship with, and he responds that he would have to break up with them. This turns out to be a big point of contention between Rachel and Lee in the sequel, along with how often Lee drops everything to spend time with Elle and forgets dates he planned with Rachel.

After Noah leaves for college at the end of the summer, Elle starts tagging along for anything and everything Rachel and Lee do together.

‘The Kissing Booth 2’: Film Review
Image
From its auspicious beginning as a novel written by then-15-year-old author Beth Reekles on the self-publish site Wattpad, to its wildly popular film debut on Netflix, “The Kissing Booth” has proven itself a hit. It spoke to its target audience without speaking down to them, telling the story of a young woman confronted with the challenge of choosing between a longterm relationship with her male best friend or a budding romance with his hotter older brother. Though its imaginatively named sequel “The Kissing Booth 2” hits similar beats, themes and emotional touchstones, it delivers a few refreshing details by giving the heroine more agency in her quest to find happiness — yet not quite enough to justify its interminable run time.

High school senior Elle Evans (Joey King) has just spent the best summer of her life with her hunky, hot-tempered boyfriend Noah (Jacob Elordi), basking in the California sun,...

Image
Netflix has released the first trailer for The Kissing Booth 2. This serves as a follow-up to the hit 2018 rom-com and sees Joey King return as Elle Evans once again. Director and screenwriter Vince Marcello is also back for the sequel, which is based on The Kissing Booth book series by Beth Reekles. This time around, we can see that Elle is having herself a romantic predicament.

The trailer opens up by raising a big question, with Elle then doing her best to answer that question. We get a recap of what has occurred since the last movie ended, with Elle and Noah happily spending the summer together. But with Noah off at Harvard, things get tricky as she is still stuck finishing out her senior year. The long-distance relationship brings with it complications of various sorts on both sides of the equation. It doesn't look to be shaking up the formula or anything like that,...

Muse’s Matt Bellamy on Lockdown Life: ‘I Have More Time to Enjoy the Simple Things’
Image
Muse frontman Matt Bellamy always intended for 2020 to be a quiet year away from the public eye. His band wrapped up their extensive Simulation Theory world tour in October 2019 ,and he needed time to decompress; spend time with his wife, model Elle Evans; and prepare for the birth of their first child. So the Covid-19 lockdown hasn’t been too big of an inconvenience, and it’s actually given him the time to focus on music, like his new solo song “Tomorrow’s World.”

He phoned up Rolling Stone to talk about his lockdown life,...

We Still Don't Have an Official Release Date For The Kissing Booth 2 on Netflix
Joey King, Joel Courtney, and Jacob Elordi in The Kissing Booth (2018)
Netflix's teen rom-com The Kissing Booth is getting a sequel, but when does it actually come out? We still don't have an official release date for The Kissing Booth 2, but it's definitely slated for sometime this year and, most likely, in the first half of the year.

What we do know is that principal photography for the sequel wrapped up all the way back in August 2019. Star Joey King posted a wrap-day photo to Twitter on Aug. 17, captioning it, "A pile of clothes, 5 deflated birthday balloons, a covered tattoo, a wig and my last day as Elle Evans in South Africa. Thanks for the memories."

The sequel will bring back the original cast, including King, Jacob Elordi (now pulling double duty with his role on HBO's Euphoria), and Joel Courtney as the trio of teenagers at the center of the first movie's unconventional triangle. Elordi surprised some...

Joey King Says Working With Ex Jacob Elordi on The Kissing Booth 2 Was a "Sacrifice"
Filming for The Kissing Booth sequel has officially wrapped, and Joey King is getting candid about what it was like working with ex-boyfriend Jacob Elordi again. While on the Mood With Lauren Elizabeth podcast this week, King (Elle Evans) said having an onscreen romance with Elordi (Noah Flynn) was a "sacrifice" she had to make.

"Playing Elle Evans was genuinely one of the best experiences of my life," King said. "Kissing Booth one is always going to be one of my favorite experiences I've ever had, so getting to jump back in was superexciting for me, but I was nervous because of how much my world had changed as far as how to hit comedy beats and where my mind was going."

"I grew as a person on this."

"I know what everyone wants to know, of course. It was crazy. It was a wild experience. But honestly, it was a really beautiful time,...

Gypsy Rose From The Act Looks Familiar Because You've Definitely Seen Her Before
If you haven't already heard of it, Hulu's The Act may be your next true crime obsession. Premiering on March 20, the anthology series debuts with a case about Dee Dee Blanchard, a seemingly devoted mother, and her daughter Gypsy Rose, who she claims suffers from a slew of illnesses. The mother-daughter bond eventually deteriorates and ends with murder. Dee Dee will be played by Patricia Arquette, who's fresh off of her role from Ben Stiller's Escape From Dannemora.

Starring across her as Gypsy Rose is none other than Joey King. That said, you might not recognize this popular young actress at first due to her dramatic transformation on the show - which even involved her shaving her head.
