“The Kissing Booth” actor Taylor Zakhar Perez says he was surprised by co-star Jacob Elordi’s criticism of the rom-com franchise.

“I thought it was a shame because to my knowledge, everybody else had such a wonderful experience,” Perez told me Thursday at the GQ Men of the Year party at Bar Marmont in West Hollywood.

“It’s a shame that was his experience on the set. Especially when those movies came out, it was a time when we really needed something like that,” he said, alluding to the Covid pandemic. “I know from our fan interactions, getting stopped everywhere I go, what ‘Kissing Booth’ means to people and what it brought them during such a dark time. I guess the silver lining is he still made people laugh and feel good.”

The Sony Pictures project, based on Kotaro Isaka’s Japanese novel “Maria Beetle,” will be directed by David Leitch from a script by Zak Olkewicz.

Netflix dropped the trailer for “The Kissing Booth 2” on Monday, showing fans of the first movie what Elle (Joey King) has been up to since she and Noah (Jacob Elordi) got together and what her final year of high school will look like with her beau off at Harvard.

For starters, it’s going to be a little complicated, seeing as she doesn’t know where she wants to go to college next year and she’s met a new hottie named Marco (Taylor Zakhar Perez) who might be making her question her feelings about Noah.

Netflix has revealed the release date for The Kissing Booth 2. The sequel to 2018's romcom is coming our way this summer, as revealed by star Joey King in a recent live stream, with other cast members making an appearance in the video. Netflix's teen rom-com The Kissing Booth is getting a sequel, but when does it actually come out? We still don't have an official release date for The Kissing Booth 2, but it's definitely slated for sometime this year and, most likely, in the first half of the year.

What we do know is that principal photography for the sequel wrapped up all the way back in August 2019. Star Joey King posted a wrap-day photo to Twitter on Aug. 17, captioning it, "A pile of clothes, 5 deflated birthday balloons, a covered tattoo, a wig and my last day as Elle Evans in South Africa. Netflix has come out with a video announcing the sequel to it’s popular original film, The Kissing Booth. The first film was based on the popular Ya novel by Beth Reekles, who was just 15 when she wrote it. The story follows 16-year old Elle Evans, played by Joey King, who has never been kissed, and has to confront her secret crush at a kissing booth.

The Kissing Booth was the most rewatched Netflix movie ever, and many of the same users who have rewatched it have also watched and rewatched the Ya hit To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, which is also getting a sequel made for Netflix. We don’t have any plot details just yet, but we do know that King will be back in the role of Elle, and will be joined by Joel Courtney and Jacob Elordi.
