The Sandman: Netflix Officially Releases Tom Sturridge's "Tempest" Scene From Series Finale - Spoilers
Image
The final episode of The Sandman, "A Tale of Graceful Ends," deals with the fallout of Morpheus' death and the emergence of a new incarnation of Dream of the Endless, with Daniel Hall (Jacob Anderson) struggling to come to terms with his very existence and the rest of The Endless coming together to mourn their departed brother.

Tom Sturridge does appear in one final flashback scene towards the end of the finale, as we see Morpheus pay a visit to William Shakespeare upon the completion of his second commissioned play, The Tempest.

Dream invites the legendary playwright to The Dreaming to share a glass of wine, and we find out why the Prince of Stories made a deal with the then "naff actor" known as Will Shaxberg in the first place. Deep down, Morpheus knew that he could never abandon his responsibilities as Destruction had by leaving "his island," and...

The Sandman Showrunner Reveals That A Batman Cameo In Series Finale Was "Briefly" Considered - Spoilers
Image
Though the connections became more tenuous as the series went on, Neil Gaiman's The Sandman was very much set within the main DC Comics Universe, with appearances from the likes of Martian Manhunter, Mr. Miracle, and even Batman, who showed up at Morpheus' funeral in "The Wake."

A few vague references aside, the Netflix series mostly avoids any direct DC nods, but co-creator/showrunner Allan Heinberg has now revealed that a cameo from Batman was discussed.

“We talked about, ‘Does Robert Pattinson want to come to the funeral?’ Briefly, we did discuss that, but only briefly.”

Getting Pattinson on board would probably have been a mission and a half, but they could have shown the Dark Knight's unmistakable cowl from the back as the mourners are making their way inside the palace.

Speaking of Superman, the bonus episode that's currently streaming, Death: The High Cost of Living, includes...

In an unusual move for a Netflix series, the final episode of The Sandman includes a post-credits scene, and it has now been officially released online.

Spoilers follow.

With his realm in danger of being obliterated by the Fates, aka the Furies, aka the Kindly Ones, Morpheus ultimately decides to give his life to save the Dreaming, with Death taking her brother's hand in a flash of light.

When Daniel Hall, the first child conceived in The Dreaming, grows to adulthood in order to fulfil his role as the new Dream Lord, we learn that the character is played by Jacob Anderson.

Are there more stories to tell featuring Daniel? Maybe, but the post-credits sequence is not so much a tease of what's to come as a meditation on Morpheus' arc over the course of the series.

The Sandman: Netflix Releases First Clip From Death: The High Cost Of Living Bonus Episode

The Sandman has come to an end, but there is still one more story to tell.

The second and final season of Netflix's adaptation of Neil Gaiman's acclaimed DC Comics series concludes with the death of Morpheus and the emergence of another aspect of Dream of the Endless to take his place. While we may yet see more of Daniel at some point (co-creator Allan Heinberg hasn't ruled out the possibility of a third season), the bonus episode that's set to hit the streamer on July 31 will be based on Death: The High Cost of Living.

This spin-off tale was hinted at in a deleted scene from the first season, when Death tells her little brother Morpheus that she used to take human form once every century in an attempt to remain grounded and in touch with humanity.

The Sandman showrunner breaks down [Spoiler]'s big cameo in the series finale
Image
Netflix's The Sandman season 2 is the show's final season. While there's more than enough source material for the show to cover up to five seasons, the streamer only gave the team enough budget for 12 more episodes. However, the writers managed to condense the entire story into one more season, and that meant playing out the story's epic final arc.

In the final episodes, which cover volumes 9 and 10 of the comic, Dream faces punishment from the Furies after spilling family blood. In episode 6, he kills his son Orpheus (Ruairi O'Connor)—an act of love, putting him out of his misery. Ultimately, he faces his punishment and is killed by the Furies, but Dream of the Endless is reborn in the form of Daniel Hall, the child of Lyta and Hector, who was conceived in The Dreaming.

Fans had been ardently trying to figure out who was playing Daniel in the...

The Sandman Showrunner Calls The Series Finale's Big Cameo An "Answered Prayer"
Image
Warning: This article contains spoilers for The Sandman season 2, vol. 2.Netflix's The Sandman is almost at an end, and the final episode in the main storyline featured an unexpected cameo to help convey the series' themes of change and rebirth. The showrunner has commented on how lucky the production was to get this cameo, given the actor's busy schedule.

The Sandman season 2, vol. 2 depicts the fallout of Dream's (Tom Sturridge) decision to grant his son Orpheus' (Ruairi O'Connor) request, and end his life, leaving the King of Dreams to face the Kindly Ones in recompense for spilling family blood. Those who have read the comics know that this ultimately leads to the end of existence.

However, Dream chooses an heir, Lyta Hall's (Razane Jammal) son Daniel, who becomes an adult upon his mortality being burned away and receiving the title of Dream of the Endless, played by Game of Thrones...

The Sandman Concludes On A Bittersweet Note With A Surprise Casting - Check Out A First Look At [Spoiler] Here
Image
The final episodes of The Sandman are now streaming on Netflix, and the series concludes with a faithful adaptation of the longest (and many would say best) storyline from Neil Gaiman's seminal saga, "The Kindly Ones."

Spoilers ahead.

With his realm in danger of being destroyed by the Fates, aka the Furies, aka the Kindly Ones, Morpheus ultimately decides to give his life to save the Dreaming, with Death taking her brother's hand in a flash of light. The Sandman is dead, but another aspect of Dream must replace him: Daniel Hall, a child conceived in The Dreaming.

When the infant Daniel becomes an adult in order to fulfil his role as the new Dream Lord, we learn that the character is played by Jacob Anderson.

"Jacob’s being available was a miracle because I assumed he was busy with Interview with the Vampire," showrunner Allan Heinberg tells THR.

‘Sandman’ Creator on How the Part 2 Finale Lays Groundwork for a Possible Return to the Universe
Image
[This story contains major spoilers from season two, Vol. 2 of The Sandman.]

In his final episode of The Sandman, Lord Morpheus (Tom Sturridge) a.k.a. Dream of the Endless, the cosmic being who controls all dreams, delivers an ominous warning to his inner circle: “For the realm to survive, for each one of you to survive, any threat to the Dreaming must be destroyed.”

The most immediate threat to the land of dreams was, of course, none other than the supreme leader himself, whose decision to spill family blood by mercifully killing his only son, Orpheus (Ruairi O’Connor), drew the ire of a trio of goddesses known as the Furies. Adapted largely from The Kindly Ones, the penultimate collection of the creator Neil Gaiman’s Sandman comics, the second volume of the Netflix fantasy drama’s final season explores the consequences of Dream’s actions.

Knowing that there is only so long that he can cheat death at the...

In the finale, “A Tale of Graceful Ends,” Dream (Tom Sturridge) chooses to end his life when he decides to end his son’s endless suffering. After mercy killing his son Orpheus (Ruairi O’Connor) and committing the taboo act of shedding family blood, Dream brings upon himself the wrath of the Kindly Ones, who demand justice, a life for a life. The Sandman Season 2 Ending Explained: Who Dies?
Image
In Vol. 1 of The Sandman Season 2, Dream (Tom Sturridge) faces a difficult choice that comes at a high cost.

Three hundred years ago, Dream’s brother Destruction (Barry Sloane) abdicated his realm, and the only person who could locate him was the oracle Orpheus (Ruairi O’Connor), Dream’s son with the muse Calliope (Melissanthi Mahut). But Dream has not seen Orpheus since their agonizing last meeting on an uncharted island off the coast of Greece.

“I think the difference between the last time Morpheus [sees] his son and the final time that they meet is a difference in the quality of love,” Sturridge tells Netflix of Vol. 1. “[It’s] understanding his failures as a father and a desperate need to give his son the only thing that he desires at the cost potentially of everything for him.”

After granting Orpheus the death he so desperately wished for — and spilling...

The Sandman Might’ve Just Turned Death Into a Softie With a Very Deadly Bias
Image
Netflix‘s The Sandman Season 2 Vol. 1 delivered one of its most emotionally devastating moments yet. Dream kills his own son, Orpheus, ending a 10,000-year-old curse of immortality. But for longtime fans, the scene raised a puzzling question. How could Orpheus die at all if Death once promised she would take him?

The dark fantasy series based on Neil Gaiman’s DC comic never shied away from mythology with cosmic beings. In a world where the Endless rarely break the rules, this twist just adds plot holes for The Sandman viewers. Does the emotional ending fit within the lore? Or are we missing something? As always with The Sandman, nothing is simple even for the Endless.

Netflix has released the opening scene of The Sandman Season 2, Vol. 2, which begins with Morpheus calling on Destiny to ask his advice on how to deal with The Fur... (sorry ladies), The Kindly Ones, who are now obligated to seek vengeance against the Dream Lord for ending the life of his son, Orpheus, in the Vol. 1 finale.

Destiny already urged his brother to abandon his quest to find Destruction, knowing full well where Dream's actions would ultimately lead.

‘The Sandman’ Showrunner Allan Heinberg Explains Decision to End Netflix Series After Two Seasons
Image
[This story contains major spoilers from season two, volume one of The Sandman, as well as from the comics.]

At the start of the second season of Netflix’s hit fantasy drama series The Sandman, the Fates — a trio of goddesses consisting of the Maiden (Dinita Gohil), the Mother (Nina Wadia) and the Crone (Souad Faress) — delivered an ominous, ambiguous prophecy to the eldest Endless sibling, Destiny (Adrian Lester): “A king will forsake his kingdom. Life and death will clash and fray. The oldest battle begins once more.”

That prophecy will seemingly be fulfilled by the Sandman himself a.k.a. Dream of the Endless (Tom Sturridge), the powerful cosmic being who controls all dreams. After reclaiming the powers he had previously lost in captivity, destroying the dangerous dream vortex and unmaking the Corinthian at the end of the first season, the moody Morpheus has been quietly rebuilding his kingdom, the Dreaming, with an eye towards the future. But the...

Tom Sturridge in The Sandman (2022)
Watch the teaser for the (almost) final episodes of The Sandman
Tom Sturridge in The Sandman (2022)
The second season of The Sandman dropped this past Thursday, or rather, the first six episodes did. The show is speed-running Neil Gaiman's comic book, and by our estimation is doing a pretty good job of it. In these first six episodes, Dream of the Endless (Tom Sturridge) went to Hell, reunited with his lost love, was sounded rejected, traveled around the mortal world with his sister Delirium (Esmé Creed-Miles), and saw his son Orpheus (Ruairi O'Connor) again after thousands of years apart.

That particular reunion ended with Dream finally fulfilling his son's wish and killing him, which means he's officially spilled family blood, a big no-no for a cosmic entity like him. That brings us to season 2, part 2, when the Kindly Ones, aka the Fates, aka the Furies, aka a lot of other things, will exact retribution.

If you've read The Sandman comics, you know how this goes.

The Sandman: The Corinthian Returns And The Kindly Ones Exact Their Vengeance In Season 2, Vol. 2 Teaser
Image
The Sandman Season 2, Volume 2 arrives on Netflix on July 24, and the streamer has now released a teaser for what will be the final 6 episodes of the series.

Spoilers follow.

In the Vol. 1 finale, Morpheus spilled "Family Blood" when he finally granted his son Orpheus peace centuries after his body was torn to pieces by the Maenads. This act incurs the wrath of The Kindly Ones, who are now within their rights to exact vengeance again the Dream Lord and lay waste to the Dreaming in the process.

During a recent interview with Tudum, Tom Sturridge weighed-in on Morpheus' decision to end his son's life and the fact that he was fully aware of the ramifications.

“Dream knows what is going to happen, and he knows the price that will be paid. [He’s] ultimately doing something beautiful and giving his son the most important thing. But the consequences are so enormous that it is a great burden.

The Sandman Netflix Confirms What a 'Boon' Means - And Reveals How Vital It Is to Orpheus' Story
Image
Netflix's The Sandman confirmed what a 'Boon' means in its gritty comic book universe, revealing just how vital it is to Orpheus' story. The new season of the hit streaming series, based on Neil Gaiman's beloved comic of the same name, is now available. It tells the story of Tom Sturridge's Morpheus/Dream as he is forced to make an impossible choice regarding his son, Orpheus (played by Ruairi O'Connor).

Part of this sweeping tale told in The Sandman Season 2 Vol. 1 is the well-worn Greek mythological concept of a Boon. In Season 2, Episode 5 (subtitled "The Song of Orpheus"), the hit streaming series looks back at the origins of Dream and Orpheus' estranged relationship, revealing how they came to be the way they are when fans find them in the rest of the series, and setting up an epic follow-up that comes in Season 6, Episode 6.

The Sandman Dreams Up Rotten Tomatoes Score As First Season 2 Reviews Arrive
Image
The Sandman season 2, Vol. 1 is now streaming on Netflix, and critics have been sharing their verdicts on the first six episodes of what will be our final visit to The Dreaming since the embargo lifted earlier today.

After initially generating a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes score when the first few reviews hit, Vol. 1 has now dropped to 75% based on 16 write-ups. That score is likely to fluctuate, but the consensus seems to be that this adaptation of the later storylines from Neil Gaiman's seminal saga doesn't quite match up to the first season.

Mileage is almost certain to vary depending on whether you're a fan of the source material, which some of the more negative reviews pretty much use as the basis of their criticism.

You can have a read through the reviews and reactions at the links below.

The Sandman Season 2, Volume 1 Review — An Enchanting Evolution for the Fantasy Series
Image
Three years is a long gap between the first and second seasons of a show, but season two of Netflix’s The Sandman was plagued with delays, from the SAG/WGA strikes to allegations against its creator. Well worth the wait, The Sandman season 2 offers more of the strange adventures that fans came to love about the show.

The Sandman Season 2, Volume 1 Review

Adapted from the DC Comics that ran from 1989 to 1996, The Sandman follows Dream, one of the Endless and ruler of the Dreaming, as he must reconcile with his past misdeeds to protect his kingdom. Confirmed to be the last season of the show, Netflix and the show’s creators, David S. Goyer and Allan Heinberg, have promised that this batch of twelve episodes will conclude Dream’s arc. Although this is an incredibly ambitious undertaking (whether out of design or necessity), this first batch of episodes gets off to an encouraging start.

The Sandman Season 2 Teaser Spotlights The Endless Family As They Assemble For A Fateful Meeting
Image
On the heels of the full trailer for the second and final season of The Sandman, Netflix has released a new social media teaser spotlighting the seven members of the Endless family: Dream, Death, Destiny, Despair, Desire, Delirium and Destruction.

We met most of these characters in season 1, but the season 2 premiere will feature the debuts of Esme Creed-Miles as the unpredictable Delirium, Adrian Lester as the all-knowing Destiny, and Barry Sloane as Destruction, who grows weary of his responsibilities and abandons his post.

This final storyline begins with the Endless meeting for a family gathering for the first time in many years, with a seemingly throwaway insult from Desire setting Morpheus on a path back to Hell.

Check out the new teaser below, along with some new behind-the-scenes stills.

Netflix Reveals New Look at Game of Thrones' Joffrey Actor in Next Villain Role
Image
Game of Thrones alum Jack Gleeson will soon be back on the small screen. He is playing Puck in the second season of The Sandman, which is due to premiere on Netflix on July 3.

Per SFX Magazine, a new image was released of The Sandman Season 2 featuring Gleeson's Puck alongside Freddie Fox's Loki. The photo showcases a better look at the Gleeson's Puck after a first-look image previously provided a more limited sneak peek, showcasing him from the shoulders up. Whether this villain will be seen by fans as despicable as Gleeson's Game of Thrones character remains to be seen, though showrunner Allan Heinberg has said how he wrote the role of Puck specifically for the Joffrey actor.

"He brings so much depth to that part," Heinberg said, per EW. "He brings sexiness to it and mischief and psychology and heart. I have a tendency to write to the actors playing these parts,...

The Sandman Season 2 Stills Spotlight Jenna Coleman As Johanna Constantine, Freddie Fox As Loki, And More
Image
Netflix released a full trailer for the second and final season of The Sandman yesterday, and the streamer has now shared some new promo stills spotlighting several of the characters we'll meet over the course of the season, along with a few familiar faces.

The images feature Morpheus (Tom Sturridge) reuniting with his former lover Nada (Umulisa Gahiga), who he condemned to Hell when she refused to be his queen; Dream's son Orpheus (Ruairi O'Connor); Fiddler’s Green (Stephen Fry) and Lucienne (Vivienne Acheampong); Freddie Fox as an even more conniving and ruthless take on Loki than the McU's version, and Jenna Coleman as the returning Lady Johanna Constantine.

Whether Johanna's modern-day counterpart will drop by remains to be seen. John Constantine only made a single appearance in the comics, but with this being the last season, we have a feeling a few creative liberties might be taken.

Watch the official trailer for The Sandman final season
Image
The second and final season of The Sandman, based on the comic book series by Neil Gaiman, drops in just a couple weeks. The first season covered the first two volumes in the comic. The second will take things all the way to the end, which means we're skipping over a lot of material. I'm a little bummed we won't get to see the full tale adapted for the screen, but the trailer looks pretty promising. Watch below:

The trailer comes complete with a bevy of new, surreal images. Things begin in the Dreaming, the realm ruled over by our lead character Dream, aka Morpheus, aka the Sandman, aka a lot of other things (Tom Sturridge); when you're an eternal being who's been around since before the dawn of time, you pick up a lot of names:

“Everyone loves a good story. But all stories come to an end.” Netflix has released the official trailer for the second and final season of The Sandman.

In Season 2, after a fateful reunion with his family, Dream of the Endless (Tom Sturridge) must face one impossible decision after another as he attempts to save himself, his kingdom, and the waking world from the epic fallout of his past misdeeds. To make amends, Dream must confront longtime friends and foes, gods, monsters, and mortals. But the path to forgiveness is full of unexpected twists and turns, and true absolution may cost Dream everything.

In the trailer, Dream (Sturridge) fights to survive, as he faces gods, monsters and the ravages of Hell, not only for himself but for The Dreaming itself. “The Dreaming will survive,” he says. “Even if I do not.”

Netflix Releases ‘The Sandman’ Season 2 Trailer as Gaiman’s Scandal Looms Over Series
Image
The second and final season of Netflix’s The Sandman is almost here, with its first trailer now out. The dark fantasy series will wrap up in two parts: Volume 1 drops on July 3, 2025, and Volume 2 arrives on July 24, 2025.

A special bonus episode will follow on July 31, 2025, marking the end of the show.

Showrunner Allan Heinberg confirmed the series was always meant to focus on Dream’s story, with enough material from the comics for just one more season. “The Sandman series has always been focused exclusively on Dream’s story, and back in 2022, when we looked at the remaining Dream material from the comics, we knew we only had enough story for one more season,” Heinberg said.

‘The Sandman’ Final Season Trailer Drops Amid Neil Gaiman Controversy — Netflix Confirms Series End This July

Fans can also expect a bonus episode on July 31. But this will be the end of the road for the dark fantasy series.

Back in November 2022, Netflix gave the green light for a second season, but in January 2025 it was announced that this would also be the last. According to The Sandman showrunner Allan Heinberg, they always planned it that way. “The Sandman series has always been focused exclusively on Dream’s story, and back in 2022, when we looked at the remaining Dream material from the comics, we knew we only had enough story for one more season,”

Heinberg explained. He also added, “We are extremely grateful to Netflix for bringing the team all...

Dream is headed back to Hell in “The Sandman” Season 2.

The latest trailer for the second and final season of Netflix’s comic book adaptation teases Dream’s (Tom Sturridge) mission to Hell and the many roadblocks he’s preparing to face.

“Lord Morpheus comes to us in a futile attempt to free one he loves from our domain,” Gwendoline Christie’s Lucifer warns. “Hell is awaiting his visit most avidly.”

A number of shots showing off the continued beauty the first season flash by. Shots of burning Hell pits, dragons, monsters and more can all be seen in the latest trailer. There is also a tease to deeper troubles for The Endless – anthropomorphic embodiments of certain basic aspects of existence.

The Sandman fans are celebrating Netflix’s latest announcement
Image
The Sandman fans got the bad news that one of their favorite shows would not be renewed after a second season long ago. The series was popular, so that wasn't the issue. The problem might stem from the artistic differences between Netflix and show creator Neil Gaiman.

The accusations of assault and abuse against him, which he has denied, might have also come into play, but we likely will never know. What we do know is that the second season of The Sandman will be its last.

The last season will be split into two parts, which has become a common practice at Netflix that is being followed by Wednesday, Squid Game, and Stranger Things, and the first part will arrive on July 3. The second part will drop on July 24. The good news is that there will be a bonus episode that will arrive on July 31.

The Sandman Season 2 Will Include A Bonus Episode Based On Death: The High Cost Of Living
Image
Netflix recently unveiled the first trailer and release dates for The Sandman season 2, which will be split into two parts. The 6-episode Volume 1 premieres on July 3, and the 5-episode Volume 2 arrives on July 24.

Now, the streamer has officially revealed the titles for each episode, and this final season will include a bonus instalment based on Death: The High Cost of Living.

This spin-off tale was hinted at in a deleted scene from the first season, when Death tells her little brother Morpheus that she used to take human form once every century in an attempt to remain grounded and in touch with humanity.

In the episode, "The Sound of Her Wings," Death reveals that she used to be a lot more, well, grim about her reaping, but an encounter with her human counterpart gave way to her far sunnier disposition.

Netflix has also shared new stills for each of the 12 episodes.

‘The Sandman’: Season 2 Bonus Episode To Drop After Series Finale, Episode Titles Revealed
Image
Surprise! In announcing titles for the 11 episodes from the second and final season of The Sandman, the Netflix fantasy series revealed a bonus standalone episode. It will be released after the previously set drops of Volume 1 (Episodes 1-6) on July 3 and Volume 2 (Episodes 7-11) on July 24.

Episode 11 will still serve as a series finale, bringing Dream’s (Tom Sturridge) story to conclusion. The bonus episode, which will debut a week later, on July 31, follows his sibling Death (Kirby Howell-Baptiste).

It is unclear whether it had been crafted with a potential spinoff in mind or just as an extra for fans following the pattern of Season 1, which also had a bonus episode.

Caught in the controversy surrounding sexual assault and misconduct allegations against Neil Gaiman, who co-developed and executive produced the TV series based on his DC comics, The Sandman announced in January that the upcoming second season would be its last.
