Prepare to head back into the Further this week. The long Fourth of July Weekend means a lighter week ahead for new horror releases, but there’s still plenty to keep you busy. That includes a highly anticipated horror sequel arriving in theaters this week and a home release for one of the year’s funniest horror comedies.

Alice Maio Mackay’s acclaimed slasher film Bad Girl Boogey released on digital platforms July 4 with a DVD release on July 11.

It’s incredibly frustrating, to say the least, that the film industry still has so much work to do when it comes to supporting and promoting the work of female filmmakers. In fact, the industry continues to send the clear message that audiences don’t want to see stories from a female perspective told by female directors, and nothing could be farther from the truth. There are countless movies about women in distress, and how women feel about the situations they find themselves in, told by men, that could have been much more interesting if they were told from a woman’s viewpoint. A recent example of this unfortunate trend is the new thriller Tearsucker. The synopsis reads “emotionally vulnerable women are preyed on by a charming psychopath who wants to suck their tears.” Disappointingly, there is nothing new or thrilling about Tearsucker and the sexist sociopath profiled in the movie is anything but appealing.

Tearsucker, set to make its debut next week at the Chattanooga Film Festival, promises “dynamic performances and dramatic tone shifts that would make even David Lynch squirm.”

If the trailer is anything to go by, which Bloody Disgusting can exclusively reveal, all signs point to Tearsucker delivering on stylish, surreal psychological horror.

We won’t have long to find out, either: Freestyle Digital Media, the digital film distribution division of Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group, has acquired North American VOD rights to Tearsucker. The twisty, dark thriller will be available to rent/own on all digital HD internet, cable, and satellite platforms, as well on DVD, starting on July 7, 2023, through Freestyle Digital Media.

The Chattanooga Film Festival is celebrating its 10th year with an impressive in-person and virtual lineup that includes world premieres, special events, and the latest and greatest in genre cinema. Taking place from June 23 - 29, we have a breakdown on everything that has been announced:

Press Release: Chattanooga, Tenn - The Chattanooga Film Festival (Cff) will make its long awaited return this summer from June 23 - 29. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, after being named one of “The 25 Coolest Film Festivals in the World” by MovieMaker Magazine, the festival will return to the ground June 23 - 25, while still offering a virtual experience from June 23 - 29.

While the festival will have various locations around the city, the main venue will be Chattanooga’s historic and legendary haunted The Read House Hotel. The hotel’s 1920’s beauty and the tale of Room 311, with resident ghost Annalisa, makes it the perfect backdrop for the festival’s 10th Anniversary.

The Chattanooga Film Festival 2023 returns in person and virtually for its tenth year, taking place June 23 through 29! The beloved festival will return to an in person event for the first time since 2019, from June 23 through 25, while still offering a virtual experience from June 23 through 29.

As for what to expect this year, the Chattanooga Film Festival has unveiled it’s first wave of programming, including their opening feature: Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls. The film is based on director Andrew Bowser’s viral character Onyx, who has racked up over 300 million plus views online.
