Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League, a sequel to the 2018 cult hit Batman Ninja, is a film that revels in its own absurdity while delivering a heartfelt tribute to both anime conventions and the DC Universe. Directed by Junpei Mizusaki and Shinji Takagi, with a screenplay by Kazuki Nakashima, this animated superhero romp picks up a day after the events of Batman Ninja, plunging Batman and his allies into a multiversal mash-up that’s equal parts thrilling, ridiculously gorgeous and surprisingly poignant. This new film doubles down on the over-the-top nonsense of the original, offering a wild ride that’s as much a love letter to Japanese culture as it is a playful riff on the superhero genre.

Sakamoto Days is Netflix's newest hit comedy anime. As a shōnen anime, Sakamoto Days is full of wacky and fun characters who fight like warriors and carry the humor of every episode through to the end. The adorable Lu Shaotang knows how to pack a punch and a punchline in the bizarre criminal underworld of Yuto Suzuki's beloved series.
Lu is more than the token shōnen anime heroine in a series with primarily male characters. She's well-armed with the martial arts skills passed down through the generations of her family, and she's able to keep viewers smiling until their cheeks hurt. Despite her charm and significance, however, Lu has steadily been falling into the background of Sakamoto Days' story.
RelatedSakamoto Days' Biggest Problem Is Also the Reason Why Its So Good
Overpowered protagonist in anime can often become their series' biggest folly, but fans love Sakamoto's comical level of superhuman strength.

When one mentions the Naruto series, the younger days of the Team 7 trio come to mind. Most fans may remember the Chunin Exams as being one of the most intense arcs in the series.

However, before the life-or-death battles that were visually stunning and filled with thrills and action, there was another section of the exams that is usually forgotten- the written test designed to measure the intelligence of young ninjas.
For many fans, the real shock wasn’t that the exam was so difficult that the ‘cool’ and ‘elite’ characters like Sasuke and Neji had to cheat to qualify for the examination. It was that Sakura Haruno didn’t even need to look up from her exam sheet.

Just a few episodes in, Sakamoto Days has already introduced some fan-favorite characters. Lu Shaotang has become a part of the main trio, along with Sakamoto and Shin. She has been one of the most comic characters in the show.
But what was once introduced as a gag element of the anime is turning out to be a serious problem. Lu’s alcoholism was discovered in one of the early episodes, which is her showdown against Obiguro. But ever since then, it has been progressively getting worse.

Lu Shaotang is the daughter of a Triad Family, which automatically translates to the fact that she has always been extremely powerful. But just like Sakamoto turns into a skinny form and Shin can read minds, Shaotang also has a weird power-up.

In a recent interview with Comic Natalie, voice actor Tomikazu Sugita opened up about his initial hesitation to take on the lead role of Sakamoto in Sakamoto Days anime.
His reason? A sense of déjà vu tied to his past work.
Sugita admitted that while he was aware of the manga’s buzz as a rising Weekly Shonen Jump hit, he was hesitant to take on the role due to similarities with a character he had played before.

One of Shonen Jump's most popular next-gen heroes is Taro Sakamoto, the titular character of Yuto Suzuki's Sakamoto Days manga series. With the broadcast debut of the series' anime adaptation on Netflix only days away, Sakamoto Days voice star Tomokazu Sugita has confessed that, originally, he never intended to take on the role.
During a recent interview conducted by Comic Natalie, Tomokazu Sugita joined Sakamoto Days co-stars Nobunaga Shimazaki (Shin Asakura) and Ayane Sakura (Lu Shaotang) to talk about their respective character roles. While many aspiring voice actors would understandably jump at the chance to take on the role of a Shonen Jump hero, Sugita originally planned to audition for the role of Kashima, an enemy of Sakamoto's who hides his true identity with a deer mask. In the original manga, Kashima makes his debut during the second main story arc.

Every anime season has its highlights, and Sakamoto Days could have easily been that for Winter 2025. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore as the release of the anime draws closer. The trailers so far paint a bleak picture of the anime’s future, and fans have lost all hope.
The discourse surrounding Sakamoto Days so far
Sakamoto Days quickly became a fan-favorite manga with a narrative that balanced great comedy with exciting fight sequences. The first volume was a strong start as it introduced a great cast of characters, who were ruthless in fights and extremely fun otherwise.
