Who Is Jod's Mystery Jedi Master from 'Skeleton Crew'?
Image
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew's final episode finally gave audiences new details about Jude Law's mysterious character, Jod Na Nawood. The mysterious pirate captain was also a Force user, making viewers question his history and if he had any Jedi or Sith connections. Was he one of the many survivors of Order 66, or was he a fraud like Haja Estree from Obi-Wan Kenobi? The season (hopefully not series) finale of Skeleton Crew finally revealed Jod's backstory. He was found by a Jedi when he was around 10 years old, and he says he was about the same age as the lead character, Wim. Jod identifies the Jedi using she/her pronouns and claims she taught him a few tricks before he watched her die. He describes her as "may have been desperate and ragged like me, but she told me I had potential.”

The series confirms that Jod has some connection to the Jedi.

Jude Law's 'Skeleton Crew' Character Might Be Reusing One Han Solo Idea
Image
Quick Links Han Solo's Cut Origin From 'Revenge of the Sith' Is Jod From Kashykkk...and Was His Jedi Teacher in 'Revenge of the Sith'?

After weeks of teasing the backstory about Jude Law's mysterious Jod Na Nawood in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, the series finally provided a hint about his origins. The Disney+ series revealed that the pirate Captain, who went by many aliases, was trained in the ways of the Force by a mysterious female Jedi before she was killed in front of him. While Jod does not name the Jedi, the few details he offers about himself in the finale, plus throughout the series and his status as a space pirate, might tell us something about his backstory.

Ever since Disney acquired Star Wars, one favorite thing among creatives has been to reuse old scrapped concepts from the original six movies and reincorporate them into the franchise in new ways.

Skeleton Crew Episode 8 Review: An Explosive Ending Brilliantly Fulfills George Lucas' Vision For The Star Wars Franchise
Image
Skeleton Crew episode 8 solidifies the show as one of Star Wars' best, wrapping up the endearing story with ease. Since the show began, I have made it clear how easy the show is to enjoy. Not only is Skeleton Crew's cast of characters fleshed out, but the show understands that it does not need to be galaxy-altering to be a worthy addition to Star Wars canon. As of the Skeleton Crew episode 8's ending, this reality is more prevalent than ever thanks to the excellent conclusion of a mostly self-contained story.

Skeleton Crew follows four ordinary children who become lost in the expansive Star Wars galaxy. As they navigate unfamiliar worlds and the challenges they present, the group endeavors to find their way back to their home planet, undertaking a journey across the iconic Star Wars universe.

Jude Law Joins The Batman, The Sandman & Tomb Raider Stars in New Vladimir Putin Biopic
Image
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew star Jude Law recently confirmed he is set to play Vladimir Putin in an upcoming drama that features a star-studded cast.

Per Av Club, Law confirmed in an interview with Deadline that he will be portraying Putin in the upcoming drama, The Wizard of the Kremlin. From director Olivier Assayas, The Wizard of the Kremlin is a feature adaptation of the novel written by Giuliano da Empoli, which centers around a fictitious TV producer, Vadim Baranov, who recounts to the book's author how he helped Putin rise to power after the fall of the Soviet Union. The Batman star Paul Dano is set to play Baranov in the film, which also features the talents of Alicia Vikander (Tomb Raider), Tom Sturridge (The Sandman), and Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover).

Skeleton Crew Episode 7 Review: Answers, Lightsabers & Cliffhangers Are Exactly What I Wanted From This Exciting Penultimate Entry
Image
Warning: This post contains spoilers for Skeleton Crew's episode 7

Skeleton Crew episode 7 barrels toward the ending with plenty of answers, the threat of lightsabers, and Jude Law having a blast. Skeleton Crew season 2 may be possible after the show's ending, but episode 7 furthered the feeling of finality as the last episode beckons. Overall, I've had a blast with this show. From Skeleton Crew's many Easter eggs to its compelling characters and fun, easygoing, but no less interesting story, the show has been a delight.

We Hadn't Seen This Awesome Return Of The Jedi Race In 27 Years... & Now They've Turned Up Twice This Year
Image
We hadn't seen this Return of the Jedi race in 41 years... and now they've turned up twice in the last year. George Lucas always loved creating alien races, and he took advantage of the Star Wars Special Editions to introduce so many cool new aliens. One was Rystáll Sant, played by Mercedes Ngoh. The Canadian singer, dancer, actress and yoga instructor was a welcome addition to the singers in Jabba's Palace.

"I have no idea what I was," Ngoh admitted in an interview with Star Wars Insider. "I'm half-human and half I don't know what else! I am definitely half-human, though!" Technically, she was half-Theelin, an alien race later established to be almost extinct, only surviving through reproducing with members of other races. The Theelin haven't been seen on-screen since... at least, until 2024, when they've turned up twice.

The Theelin Have Appeared Twice This Year! In The Acolyte & Star Wars:...

The kids of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew are the most dangerous force in the galaxy
Image
The first two episodes of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew make one thing very clear: The galaxy is no place for kids.

We receive this message in numerous ways. There's the Career Assessment Test all children on the planet of At Attin must take (essentially the Star Wars version of the Sat). There are the "No Speeder Bikes" signs on the road, even though Fern (Ryan Kiera Armstrong) and Kb (Kyriana Kratter) make it obvious that Speeder Bikes are awesome. There's Wim (Ravi Cabot-Conyers) asking his dad for a bedtime story and hearing, "Aren't you getting a little bit old for that?"

And in case we've missed the show's subtler messaging, Melna (Paloma Garcia-Lee), the doorkeeper of a space brothel on the pirate haven of Borgo, spells it out. When Melna notices a group of children waltzing into pirate society in Episode 2, she pulls Fern and Kb aside and says, "It's not safe here for children.

Avery gets some unexpected news in Doctor Odyssey season 1, episode 8
Image
The Doctor Odyssey season 1 fall finale promises not to disappoint. Let’s take a look inside the episode.

Doctor Odyssey season 1, episode 8 promises us bombshells and emergency surgeries. Of course, there are some very tropey storylines for a rather tropey show. They’re sure to add some drama and excitement, though.

Avery is pregnant in Doctor Odyssey season 1, episode 8

After that wild night a couple of episodes ago, Avery has some rather surprising news. She’s pregnant. Of course, she has no idea who the father is. At least telling the two men that she has slept with both of them won’t come as a surprise. They were both there when it happened. The question is which one the father is.

Will we see something like Boston Legal where the two men battled it out? Brad and Jeffrey were both willing to step up when they found out Denise was pregnant.

Max Novick’s Relationship Dramedy ‘Poly’ Navigates the Delicate Dance of Power in a Pregnant Throuple
Image
As some of the pearl-clutching commentary following the Paris Olympics opening ceremony demonstrated, polyamory is still a subject that provokes strong reactions be that for or against and so it’s understandable that when writer/director Max Novick stumbled across an article about a polycule the seed was sewn for his relationship dramedy Poly. The film drops us into the life of a seemingly blissful throuple as they throw a party to celebrate becoming a four, but unfortunately, all isn’t quite as golden as it seems. Poly and the lives of its three partners could have taken many directions, however Novick’s gripping and at times deeply uncomfortable short is a poignant, bordering on woeful, portrait of jealousy, weighted interpersonal connections and the longing for the return to a life bound by the confines of tradition. Novick’s dramedy delights in its shifting focus on the perspectives of our...

‘West Side Story’s Ariana DeBose: The Spirit Of Anita “Just Jumped Out To Me And Sat On My Chest”
Image
Ten years as a working actress on Broadway has given Ariana DeBose a grounded approach to the swell of accolades accompanying her performance as the iconic Anita in Steven Spielberg’s remake of West Side Story. Following a legacy of iconic performances, both on stage and film, DeBose is allowing herself to pave her own path, giving this moment of successes and critical appreciation a charming, honest, culturally modern spin.

Deadline: What was your first impression of the character of Anita growing up?

Ariana Debose: I grew up watching West Side Story on my grandmother’s television. Turner Classic Movies was playing it and I was really into old movies as a kid. That and soap operas with my grandmother because that’s what we did together.

Deadline: Which soap opera did you like to watch?

Debose: Days of Our Lives. I’m still invested in Marlena and John.
