Ariana Greenblatt's 5 Best Movie Roles, Ranked
Image
Based on her creative output over the last few years, it's genuinely astonishing that actress Ariana Greenblatt isn't even old enough to legally order a drink yet. Born in August 2007 in New York City to an industry family, Greenblatt booked her first big role in 2016 thanks to the Disney Channel original series "Stuck in the Middle," which cast her as Daphne Diaz — the youngest of seven kids, who still loves playing with dolls but is also pretty vindictive for such a little kid.

After making her film debut in a small supporting role in "A Bad Moms Christmas" in 2017, Greenblatt's career really took off. So, what are her best projects so far? Bear in mind that Greenblatt is still early in her career, and based on her work thus far, her future is incredibly bright. Still, she's made some pretty solid stuff since 2017, including some absolutely enormous blockbusters. Here are her five best roles,...

Outer Banks Star Madelyn Cline's Best Movies & TV Shows
Image
Madelyn Cline has had smaller roles in various TV shows and movies before her breakout role in Outer Banks, but even those supporting roles have exposed her to a wide audience. Cline's role in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery allowed her to branch out from high school teen roles and showcase her comedic talent. Outer Banks is Cline's most significant role to date, where she handles romance, action, mystery, and comedy with equal measure, solidifying her as a standout performer in the series.

Outer Banks' Madelyn Cline has become a breakout star thanks to her lead role in the Netflix hit drama adding to her already impressive list of movies and TV shows. However, Outer Banks is far from Madelyn Cline’s first gig. Her first role was the 2009 short Milites Christi, and she made her feature film debut two years later in 23rd Psalm: Redemption. Since then,...

Wednesday Season 2 Can Fix The Show's Addams Family "Mistake"
Image
Warning! This post contains Spoilers for Wednesday Season 1!

Wednesday has been hugely successful on Netflix, but there is one mistake in the new Addams Family reimagining that can be fixed in season 2. Tim Burton’s Wednesday takes the characters back to the original cartoons by Charles Addams, with the series focusing on Wednesday Addams in her teenage years. Starring Jenna Ortega as Wednesday, Wednesday also features Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia, Luis Guzmán as Gomez, and Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley, as well as plenty of new characters to The Addams Family world.

Wednesday’s journey sees her uncover a darker history behind her parents’ schooldays and audiences get to see a young Morticia and Gomez (Gwen Jones and Lucius Hoyos). However, despite this plot line, the rest of the Addams family do not appear in Wednesday much at all. Morticia and Gomez’s plot line is a big part of Wednesday...

Who Plays Young Gomez & Morticia Addams In Wednesday
Image
Warning! This article contains Spoilers for Wednesday season 1!Wednesday’s flashbacks to 1990 feature different actors playing young Gomez Addams and Morticia Frump. Tim Burton’s Wednesday marks one of the first occasions in which Gomez and Morticia aren’t leading an Addams Family adaptation, although the characters do play significant roles in Nevermore Academy’s 30-year-old murder mystery. As Wednesday Addams investigates how Garrett Gates’ death really happened at Nevermore’s 1990 Rave’N Dance, her parents Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and Gomez (Luis Guzmán) explain their sides of the story in the “murder.”

The flashbacks to teenage Gomez and Morticia Addams as outcast students at Nevermore Academy in Wednesday season 1, episode 5 show a new era of the family’s life as the young lovers become swept up in murder, jealousy, and revenge. In the dramatic episode, young Morticia is portrayed by Gwen Jones, while young Gomez is played by Lucius Hoyos.

‘Wednesday’ Series Opens the Doors of the Nevermore Academy
Image
Netflix is kicking up the publicity campaign for Wednesday, The Addams Family spinoff premiering sometime this fall, with an invitation to join the titular character at Nevermore Academy. The fictitious school’s official website greets visitors with a quiz to make sure the school’s the right fit, with questions including how you feel about fitting in and whether your peers understand you.

The Nevermore Academy application breaks from the norm by asking which outcast group you identify with: vampire, gorgon, werewolf, or siren. Or, if none of those fit, you can select “I can’t describe it.” For the purpose of writing this piece, I chose vampire. That led to a question about the academic area I’m interested in and I picked supernatural studies.

The last step in the application process requires personal details, including an email and physical address. If you proceed and enter your info, you...

‘This is the Night’ Review
Image
Stars: Lucius Hoyos, Madelyn Cline, Frank Grillo, Bobby Carnavale, Jonah Hauer-King, Naomi Watts | Written and Directed by James DeMonaco

Ah yes, another day another Frank Grillo project! To be fair though this is a pretty big change of pace from the action thrillers we are used to seeing Grillo in right now, as he sinks his teeth into a brilliant little coming of age movie that hits every single mark it aims for, even giving Grillo a moment of acting brilliance all the while paying homage to one the greatest movies to have ever hit the big screen… Rocky III.

This is the Night or Once Upon a Time in Staten Island (I prefer This is the Night) is the story of the Dedea family one day in 1982 more specifically it’s the day of the release of Rocky III and the family, much like pretty much the entire town...

A Sleepless World Struggles to Find a Cure in ‘Awake’ | Gina Rodriguez
Image
Photo: ‘Awake’ What would happen if the entire world collectively lost their ability to sleep? ‘Awake,’ a new sci-fi thriller from Netflix, aims to answer that question. In the film, the human population suddenly loses their ability to sleep due to a solar flare that rewires their inner workings. Chaos ensues, with societies crumbling in the beginning due to lootings and crime, and escalating to violence as people begin to lose their minds. As the film surmises, the human body can only function a certain amount of time without rest. If that doesn’t happen, a number of side effects will occur, such as memory loss, neurological damage, and hallucinations, to name a few. ‘Awake’ Review: Netflix Thriller About a Sleep Deprivation Pandemic Has Opposite Effect
Image
In director Mark Raso’s occasionally engaging but mostly frustrating sci-fi thriller, an unexplained event causes a massive electromagnetic pulse that fries most electronics and leaves nearly all of humanity incapable of sleep. From the mysterious incident onward, the characters slowly slide toward insanity as fatigue takes its toll, although it’s not clear how everyone on earth immediately recognizes (or believes) that the resulting restlessness is permanent. If the recent real-world pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that early in a health crisis, nobody knows anything, and the resulting confusion tends to be more exhausting than entertaining.

So, at the risk of sounding facetious, I confess that while exasperated ex-military, ex-junkie super-mom Jill (Gina Rodriguez) worries about whether she’ll ever be able to sleep again, I had no such problem. Between its low-energy suspense and all-around failure to grip, “Awake” took me three separate sittings to get through.

Gina Rodriguez Tries to Survive in Post-Apocalyptic 'Awake' Trailer
Jessica Alba and Hayden Christensen in Awake (2007)
"Our survival depends on her. Let's get to work." Netflix unveiled the official trailer for a post-apocalyptic survival thriller titled Awake, made by Canadian director Mark Raso. This will debut streaming on Netflix early next month. Chaos ensues after a global event wipes out all electronics and takes away humankind’s ability to sleep. But Jill, an ex-soldier with a troubled past, may hold the key to a cure in the form of her own daughter. This setup mashes up a few sci-fi concepts - kind of like Bird Box meets Children of Men, with humanity going crazy because they can't sleep, but one young girl can. Gina Rodriguez stars, with Ariana Greenblatt, Frances Fisher, Shamier Anderson, Finn Jones, Lucius Hoyos, Gil Bellows, Barry Pepper and Jennifer Jason Leigh. This looks like it's packed with all the usual apocalyptic movie tropes - aggressive military, crazy people everywhere. Looks entertaining, but not that smart.

Nicola Peltz Beckham, Thomas Mann, and Percy Hynes White in Our House (2018)
Film Review: ‘Our House’
Nicola Peltz Beckham, Thomas Mann, and Percy Hynes White in Our House (2018)
An illustration of how bigger often isn’t better when it comes to remakes, “Our House” applies a coat a professional polish to Matt Osterman’s no-budget 2010 regional indie “Phasma Ex Machina” (aka “Ghost in the Machine”) that wipes the personality clean off this supernatural tale about messing with forces beyond one’s control. The story basics remain, involving a machine that summons spirits both wanted and unwanted to a grieving family. But what this still modest yet considerably slicker upgrade gains in surface gloss and FX, it loses in psychological intensity and suspension of disbelief — qualities the prior film’s hand-made auspices heightened.

In their place, we get what now feels like a very ordinary if competent haunted-horror story about a nuclear family that’s bound to look rather pedestrian in the immediate wake of “Hereditary.” However, there’s reason to suspect first-time feature helmer Anthony Scott Burns and...

‘What If’ Review
Stars: Daniel Radcliffe, Adam Driver, Zoe Kazan, Rafe Spall, Megan Park, Mackenzie Davis, Lucius Hoyos, Jemima Rooper | Written by Elan Mastai | Directed by Michael Dowse

Watch: The Lesser Blessed Trailer, Starring Benjamin Bratt & Chloe Rose!
The Lesser Blessed is described as a powerful coming-of-age story about a Native teenager balancing his romantic heart with a dark past that threatens to unravel his life. The movie is actually an adaptation of Richard Van Camp‘s novel of the same name, and comes from director Anita Doron. Today, we’re here to share the official trailer and some pretty cool images from the whole thing, hope you’ll like it!

The Lesser Blessed features a largely Canadian cast including Joel Evans, Chloe Rose, Kiowa Gordon, and Benjamin Bratt, and tells the story of Larry Sole – a teenage metalhead living on a First Nations reserve in the Northwest Territories who grapples with the challenges of adolescence.

Larry is a Tlicho Indian growing up in the small northern town of Fort Simmer. His tongue, hallucinations and fantasies are hotter than the centre of the sun. At sixteen, he loves heavy metal music,...
