‘Survivor’ Contestant Who Used the Genius “dead” Grandma Lie To Save Himself From Elimination
Image
The world of Survivor is filled with thrilling tasks and puzzles, with players fighting it out for the grand cash prize. But apparently, along with strategy, deception is equally important in some cases. That was the case for Jonny Fairplay from Survivor: Pearl Islands, who pulled off a major bluff and solidified his place in reality TV history.

Fairplay used the now-infamous “dead grandma” lie to gain sympathy and secure his safety in the game. While it was just a strategy back then, years later, his grandmother actually passed away in 2025.

Why Survivor Is The Most Dangerous Reality TV Show
Image
Before Jeff Probst began hosting the first season of Survivor, a huge amount of preparation went into the show. Still, there was no way to know that Survivor would be on the air for so long that fans would rank the show's seasons and remember the first medical evacuation.

Now that it has been so long since Survivor debuted that new fans have to figure out which seasons to watch first, it is a widely respected reality TV show. Still, many observers don't appreciate what makes Survivor the most dangerous show to film and the most thrilling to watch for many fans.

The Fact That So Many Survivor Players Have Been Medically Evacuated Proves How Dangerous The Show Is

Big Brother Star Zach Rance's Cry For Help Shows The True Dangers Of Reality TV
Image
Reality TV creates stars. That has been evident, especially with Big Brother. Dr. Will Kirby is still considered the most iconic player in history, and that came with so much media attention. For the current season, fans are trying to find out who Tucker Des Lauriers was before the show. Without a doubt, his life won't ever be the same again given his exciting gameplay during the current season.

However, that spotlight can also do some serious harm. Zach Rance appeared on the show a decade ago, and is still facing the reality of having to deal with a stalker on a daily basis. Zach recently told his heartbreaking story across all his social media platforms, asking fans for help. Zach's story is a true example that the life of a reality star can be very dangerous behind the scenes and when the cameras aren't rolling any longer.

Survivor players face real peril, as seen with Neal Gottlieb's infection nightmare during Survivor: Kah Rng. Despite his ordeal, Gottlieb believed he could have continued playing since he didn't feel pain while walking or running.

Julie Chen Moonves in Big Brother (2000)
Could Big Brother do a season with Survivor alums as houseguests?
Julie Chen Moonves in Big Brother (2000)
Would fans be interested in seeing a Big Brother and Survivor crossover?

Based on a recent announcement by the CBS boss, the stage has been set to make it possible.

It was revealed that Survivor 50 will be a “year-long” celebration at CBS.

Host Jeff Probst also announced that the show will feature returning players.

But Survivor is only 26 days long now (or 39 days if they extend it for the special season), giving them enough content for a 13-episode season.

Having 13 weeks of Survivor 50 isn’t exactly a year of content, but there’s a way for CBS to extend that.

Put Survivor alums in the Big Brother house for a special season

CBS needs counterprogramming for the 2026 Winter Olympics.

It’s possible that a new season of Celebrity Big Brother could air that winter.

But what if the producers worked with Survivor alums to put together a special season of Big Brother instead?...

10 Biggest Injuries on Survivor, Ranked

Survivor is arguably one of the most physically grueling reality TV competition series on the air. Not only are players left in the wild to fend for themselves, building shelter, making fire, and finding food with little to no resources, but they also have to brave the elements. Its no surprise that several contestants have been air-lifted from the show through its 46 seasons to date for all types of ailments. Caleb Reynolds was removed from the game after suffering from extreme heat stroke. Eric Reichenbach collapsed and it was discovered that he was on the verge of starvation.

Why Frankie Grande Will Most Likely Win Big Brother Reindeer Games
Image
Frankie Grande is a dominant competitor, winning multiple competitions during Big Brother 16. Frankie plays a strategic social game, befriending whoever has the power. Frankie's success in the game is due to his ability to make logical decisions and play with his head, rather than his heart.

Big Brother Reindeer Games contestant Frankie Grande has dominated the competitions so far, and he'll most likely win the whole game. Frankie, a 40-year-old actor from Los Angeles, California, placed 5th on Big Brother 16. He was a competition beast, winning five Head of Household and three Power of Veto competitions. If one includes his one Battle of the Block win, Frankie was tied with Janelle Pierzina and Michael Bruner for the most single-season wins with nine, a record that wasn't broken until Jag Bains won ten competitions during Big Brother 25.

During Big Brother Reindeer Games, Frankie was thrilled to see that his fellow Big Brother 16 competitors,...

Big Brother’s Frankie Grande Fears He’d Be Too Big A Target On All-Stars
Image
Big Brother 16 star Frankie Grande would love to play the game again, but he fears that he would be too big of a target in an All-Stars season. Frankie placed 5th on Big Brother 16. He holds the record for the most Head of Household (Hoh) wins in a single season at five, although he was dethroned for two of them. He also won three vetoes. If his Battle of the Block win is counted, Frankie has nine single season wins, tying Janelle Pierzina and Michael Bruner for the most ever. Frankie was only nominated twice while he was in the house.

On EW's Quick Drag podcast, Frankie revealed that he is absolutely "not done with Big Brother." However, with rumors of the upcoming Big Brother 25 being either an All-Stars season or having some returning players, he admitted that he is hesitant to return out of fear of being an immediate target.

How Survivor 44 Could Be Similar To Kaôh Rōng
Image
Survivor season 44 has yet to premiere, but it's already drawing comparisons to a prior season, 2016's Survivor: Kaôh Rōng. Though it was filmed before season 31, Kaôh Rōng aired as the show's 32nd installment, and it was the final season to be filmed in a location other than Fiji. Set in Cambodia, the installment featured one of the show's most shocking endings, when Michele Fitzgerald won the final jury vote over Aubry Bracco. That event was very controversial.

Season 44 is set to be the fourth installment of the show's "new era," and will feature the same basic format of its three "new era" predecessors. It will be a 26-day game, and end with an on-island winner announcement and after-show. Additionally, Survivor season 44 will introduce 18 new Survivor contestants, who will begin the game in three tribes of six.

Why Survivor Needs To Cast Female Big Brother Players
Image
In Survivor's 43 seasons, only two former players from Big Brother have competed. The first was Hayden Moss, winner of Big Brother 12, who competed on Survivor: Blood vs. Water with his then-girlfriend, Kat Edorsson. The reality veteran finished the competition in 6th place. The next one to compete was Caleb Reynolds, who appeared on both Kaoh Rong and Game Changers, where he became one of only four other returnees to miss the merge on both of their seasons. Since then, no other former Big Brother player has been asked to compete on Survivor.

‘Big Brother’ fan-favorite Da’Vonne Rogers wants to play ‘Survivor’ next: I can ‘knock that out’

Even though Da'Vonne Rogers lost the big prize on "Big Brother: All-Stars," coming in 10th place, she was still named America's Favorite Houseguest at the conclusion of Season 22. Da'Vonne chatted with Gold Derby's Joyce Eng about whether she'd ever want to play "Bb" again and she didn't mince words, saying the competition is way too long. (Regular seasons tend to last just under 100 days.) However, there's another CBS reality TV show that catches her eye.

Survivor: 10 Big Brother Players We'd Like To See As Castaways
Arbaaz Khan and Mohanlal in Big Brother (2020)
Big Brother and Survivor are very different reality shows, though they do share some similarities. They both bring people together to live, compete in challenges, and vote one another out, one by one, until a final winner is crowned.

In Survivor, however, they go to an exotic locale and live on the land, making their own shelter, finding their own food, and battling with extreme hunger, weather, and exhaustion. On Big Brother, they're in a massive house where they can bring as much clothing as they want, do their make-up and hair, shave, have hot showers, and enjoy an abundance of food.

‘Survivor’: 12 most disturbing moments ranked from uncomfortable to ugly
Survivor (2000)
“Survivor” can be one of the most entertaining shows on television, an adventure on a deserted island where strangers out-maneuver each other and compete in fun challenges. It can also be immensely uncomfortable when the illusion of the game fades away and real-life implications come into play. Above you can scroll through our photos of the 12 most disturbing moments in “Survivor” history, ranked from uncomfortable to ugly.

The safety of the “Survivor” castaways is always of grave importance, which is what makes the show’s medical evacuations so unfortunate to watch. Some, like Michael Skupin in “The Australian Outback,” have an accident, falling in the fire and requiring medical attention. Others push themselves to the brink, like Russell Swan in “Samoa” and Caleb Reynolds in “Kaoh Rong.” These are the worst kinds of “Survivor” exits, and while there can be compelling drama in seeing a castaway push themselves, it’s...

‘Survivor’ medical evacuations through the years: How Nick Wilson and Michele Fitzgerald benefited
Survivor (2000)
As “Survivor: Winners at War,” the 40th season of the landmark reality competition series, continues to heat up we take a look back at all the times players were evacuated from the game for medical reasons in its first 20 years (see above). Though some players removed from the game once later returned to compete again, none of them have ever returned and won. That isn’t to say their evacuations haven’t had a long-lasting impact on the show–both Nick Wilson and Michele Fitzgerald benefited greatly from the removal of players in their path to a win. A scary reminder that ‘Survivor’ is not for the faint of heart as Season 38’s Lauren joins the black-out club
Kelley Wentworth in Survivor (2000)
Kelley Wentworth might have had a sense of deja vu during a difficult endurance challenge on episode 8, “I’m the Puppet Master,” on this week’s edition of “Survivor: Edge of Extinction.” As the fourth player to drop out of the challenge where individual immunity was at stake, she got a bird’s-eye view of the moment when her closest ally in the game, college athlete Lauren O’Connell, 21, suddenly started to black out and fall to the ground.

‘Survivor’ Season 37 premiere ends with a shocker that leaves the David tribe in tears
Survivor (2000)
The premiere episode of Season 37 of “Survivor” started with a lot of touchy-feely moments and the usual grousing about outsized personalities, thanks to its premise of pitting so-called Davids against Goliaths. But it ended up with an unexpected and rather harrowing twist when Pat Cusack, a member of the David tribe who took charge of building their shelter, was suddenly shown to be moaning in pain and clearly injured in the final moments of the show. He somehow hurt his back when his tribe returned to their camp after they lost the immunity challenge when their boat went through choppy water caused by a rainstorm.

The maintenance manager, 40, from upstate New York tied the record for the earliest medical evacuation in “Survivor” history. That mark was previously set by Kourtney Moon of “Survivor: One World” in 2011’s Season 24 when she was forced to leave on Day 3. Moon remains the first...
