He was born in Istanbul in 1956. He studied architecture. In his early ages when he was a student, he worked as assistant in various films. When he was 17 years old he worked as cameraman in feature-length films "Alev" and "Sahin". He improved himself in architectural and industrial photography. In 1992, he started working as director of photography in private TV channels. Since 2000 he has worked as director of photography in NTV and Star TV channels; he gave lessons on camera and light at various training institutions. Sertesen also shot documentary films.
