Exclusive: Noah Jupe and Isabela Merced are set to star in the new thriller Psyche from director Agustina San Martin. San Martín will direct the film from a a screenplay by Katy Cavanagh-Jupe and San Martín.

Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Greek islands, the film follows a young backpacker drawn into the murky world of illegal archeological digs where he unwittingly unearths treasure beyond his wildest dreams. Psyche is an original film developed by Double Garage Films, the newly launched company from Noah and Chris Jupe and Katy Cavanagh-Jupe. Four-time Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe is set to team up once more with Brazil’s Bárbara Paz in near-future drama, “Cuddle,” Paz’s fiction feature debut.

Dafoe was an associate producer of the documentary “Babenco: Tell Me When I Die” (2019), which Paz directed as an ode to her late husband, Argentine-Brazilian filmmaker Hector Babenco and which represented Brazil at the 93rd Academy Awards.

Dafoe’s ties to Paz and Babenco began with “My Hindu Friend,” Babenco’s semi-autobiographical 2015 swan song, in which Dafoe portrayed a dying filmmaker closely modeled after Babenco himself and Paz played a small but pivotal role.

In “Cuddle,” Dafoe plays Dante, a professional cuddler who offers platonic comfort to strangers craving connection. In her first major casting since breaking out with Cannes hit Emilia Pérez, Karla Sofía Gascón has signed on to star in Las Malas, a Spanish-language adaptation of the dark fairy-tale novel Bad Girls by author Camila Sosa Villada.

Armando Bó, who won an Academy Award for co-writing Alejandro González Iñárritu’s 2014 drama Birdman, will direct the feature and is co-penning the script with Josefina Licitra.

The project hails from About Entertainment, based in Argentina and Uruguay; Infinity Hill, best known for its Oscar-nominated film Argentina 1985; and Suma Content, the Spanish independent global production company.

Gascón will lead the feature in the role of Aunt Encarna, a tough but motherly leader of a group of trans sex workers, whose routine is upset when she finds an abandoned baby and decides to adopt him without realizing she is putting everyone around her in danger.

The American Film Market, which runs Nov. 5 – 10, kicks off in new digs as the event relocates from its long-standing base in Santa Monica to the bright lights of Las Vegas. The move will see hundreds of exhibitors setting up shop in the Palms Casino Resort, which will also play host to the AFM’s conference series, the AFM Sessions, as well as industry screenings inside the resort’s 14-screen multiplex, the Brenden Theatres.

More than 285 companies and organizations from 80 countries are exhibiting at this year’s AFM, with the event’s organizers announcing that exhibition space in the Palms Casino Resort has sold out. Countries including China, France, Germany, Italy, Romania and Thailand will host dedicated umbrella stands showcasing national companies and producers, and a total of 34 countries will be represented by international trade organizations, film commissions and national delegations.

Argentina has selected Luis Ortega’s latest flick Kill The Jockey as its candidate for the Best International Feature Film category at the 97th Academy Awards.

The announcement was made yesterday by the Argentine Film Academy.

Kill the Jockey debuted in competition at this year’s Venice Film Festival before going on to screen at TIFF.

Nahuel Pérez Biscayart stars in the absurdist comedy as a legendary jockey whose self-destructive behaviour is beginning to outshine his talent and threaten his relationship with his girlfriend Abril (Úrsula Corberó).

On the day of the most important race of his career that will clear him of his debts from mobster boss Sirena (Daniel Gimenez Cacho), he has a severe accident, disappears from the hospital and wanders the streets of Buenos Aires. Free from his identity, he starts to discover who he is truly meant to be. But Sirena wants him found, dead or alive.

The feature, which premiered at Venice and will screen at TIFF, is directed by Ortega from a script he co-wrote with Rodolfo Palacios and Fabián Casas. Bankside Films is launching world sales on the buzzy project at this week’s Cannes market. Bankside, UTA Independent Film Group and CAA Media Finance are co-repping North American rights.

Mexico’s Yalitza Aparicio, Oscar nominated for her career-launching turn in Alfonso Cuaron’s “Roma,” and Infinity Hill, producers of the Oscar-nominated Argentine drama “Argentina 1985,” have boarded sweatshop thriller “City of Dreams” (previously titled “Dreamer”) as executive producers.

The drama features a stellar cast that includes Golden Globe nominee Diego Calva (“Babylon”), Chile’s Alfredo Castro (“From Afar”), Mexico’s Paulina Gaitán (“Narcos”) and Jason Patric (“The Lost Boys”).

Exclusive: Oscar-nominated director Whit Stillman (Metropolitan) is turning his hand to big budget rom-com adventure TV with The Splendid Affinities, a series set across Paris, Madrid and London.

Global Screen is co-producing and will feature The Splendid Affinities on its Berlinale slate and Stillman has teamed with Argentina 1985 producer Infinity Hill and Lauranne Bourrachot (A Prophet) on the project, which is one of Stillman’s first major TV offerings.

The show is set 30 years after the end of the Soviet era, where the fictional Baltic republic of Vronyia is under threat along with the life of its beloved Prince Michael, elder statesman of the country’s return to democracy. Violence extends to London, Paris and Madrid and the main characters have to save the nations in the most stylish way possible, with dreams of finding love while doing so.

Argentina’s Rodrigo de la Serna leads the cast in the latest Paramount+ original film for Latin America, “El Salto de Papá,” based on the memoir of Argentine author-journalist Martin Sivak.

Daniela Goggi, who co-wrote the script with Andrea Garrote, will direct the pic which is set to begin shooting in Argentina in upcoming weeks. Vis, Paramount’s international studio, is producing the drama in association with two of Argentina’s leading producers, Infinity Hill and Rei Cine.

The film is one of multiple Paramount+ original projects underway in Latin America and Spain as the streamer seeks to rev up its local slate. Competition for premium culturally-specific content among streaming giants and studios in Latin America continues to heat up as they source more original productions locally. Dark Dreams, which Pettyfer steers with his manager-producer James Ireland, has had “substantial” backing from Magnus Rausing, heir to the multi-billion euro Tetra Laval fortune. Former NBC Entertainment chairman Paul Telegdy has launched a new shingle with his cousin, Berlin-based advertising exec Stefan Telegdy, and they are pitching their first TV project, a 10-episode series about the Falklands/Malvinas War of 1982.

The Telegdys’ The Whole Spiel production company has partnered with Lone Wolf Pictures and Infinity Hill to produce “The Islands,” which tells the story of that 1982 war, from the perspective of the soldiers and civilians on both sides of the 74-day conflict.

Argentine writer Sebastian Rotstein is writing the screenplay for the show, which will employ writers and directors from both the U.K. and Argentina to tell the full story.

Headlining arguably the foremost Argentine stars of their generations – Ricardo Darín and Peter Lanzani (“The Clan”) – the feature film has just started shooting in Argentina.

U.K. broadcaster BBC has ordered a second season of comedy “Staged,” created by Simon Evans and Phin Glynn, and starring Michael Sheen (“Good Omens”) and David Tennant (“Des”) from Infinity Hill and Gcb Films.

Shot during lockdown, the first season starred Tennant and Sheen as two actors whose West End play has been put on hold due to Covid-19, but whose director has persuaded them to carry on rehearsing online. The new series sees the pair attempt to navigate their new normal at home with their increasingly exasperated families, while simultaneously trying to tackle the world of virtual Hollywood.

Following on from the surprise appearances in season one of Judi Dench and Samuel L. Jackson, this season will have more celebrity guests.

The BBC has commissioned a second season of Staged, the lockdown comedy starring Good Omens actors David Tennant and Michael Sheen that secured pick-up from Hulu in the U.S.

The first season of the Infinity Hill, Gcb Films and No Mystery-produced show featured Tennant and Sheen mounting Zoom rehearsals for their furloughed West End theatre production during the pandemic.

Season 2 sees the pair attempt to navigate the world of “virtual Hollywood” while keeping their increasingly fragile egos intact. Parks and Recreation star Ben Schwartz joins the cast as an assistant to their American agent.

Exclusive: Staged, the Michael Sheen and David Tennant-starring lockdown comedy that has been a breakout hit after broadcasting on BBC One in the UK, has landed a U.S. streaming deal with Hulu.

Rainmaker Content, the recently launched international distributor specializing in drama, factual and special event programming, boarded the project’s sales rights back in June and has now also closed deals with Shout! Studios (Home Entertainment and TV in North America), Netflix (UK secondary rights), ABC (Australian TV) and Huanxi Media Group (all rights in China).

Created by Simon Evans and Phin Glynn and write and directed by Evans, the 6×22’ series chronicles the cast of a furloughed West End theatre production during the coronavirus pandemic. Georgia Tennant, Anna Lundberg and Lucy Eaton also feature.

The show has been viewed more than 20 million times in the UK, according to the producers. It is an Infinity Hill and Gcb Films production.

Lionsgate has revealed a trailer for The Doorman. This is a new action/thriller led by Ruby Rose, Jean Reno. Ryuhei Kitamura directs what is described by the studio as a "punishing action-thriller." Based on what we can see from the trailer, that appears to be an accurate description.

The trailer opens up with an explosion-filled action scene that sees bullets, and Ruby Rose, fly. This helps set up her character, an ex-soldier, who is at the center of the tale. After leaving the armed forces, she then finds herself a quiet yet steady job working at an apartment building. All seems well. However, a gang of armed thugs shows up with criminal intent, which throws a wrench in the gears. Rose's character ends up on the wrong side of this group, ultimately duking it out with them. Punches (and bullets) fly, the body count rises and Rose even gets a one-liner in.

Lawrence Osborne, the Asia-based writer who has recently enjoyed a spate of film deals for his own novels, is poised to adapt Jon Swain’s Vietnam War-era memoir “River of Time.” Film rights to Swain’s book have been optioned by Indochina Productions for Osborne to script and executive produce.

Swain, an award-winning correspondent for the Sunday Times of London and Afp, went to South-East Asia, only 22 years old, having previously been in the Foreign Legion. Famously arriving in Pnomh Penh on the last flight out of Bangkok before the Khmer Rouge took power in Cambodia, Swain witnessed the Cambodian genocide. He covered Vietnam and Cambodia from 1970-1975, and became a key figure among the war correspondents based in the city.

Good Omens stars David Tennant and Michael Sheen are reuniting for a brand new BBC comedy series which they’ve filmed from their homes during lockdown. Titled Staged, the pair – who previously starred together in Amazon’s fantasy comedy-drama as Crowley the demon and Aziraphale the angel – will be playing the cast of a West End theater production who’ve been furloughed during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Tennant and Sheen will be joined by other house-bound actors, too, including Lucy Eaton, Anna Lundberg and Tennant’s wife Georgia Tennant. Staged will be a six-part series made up of 15-minute episodes. Writer-director of Academy Award winning “The Secret in Their Eyes,” starring Ricardo Darín, Argentina’s Juan José Campanella is teaming with Viacom International Studios to direct a new drama series, “Los Enviados.”

Unveiled Friday at a Vis press conference, held virtually, the faith-themed thriller marks the first fruit of a first-look deal unveiled last May between Vis and 100 Bares, the Buenos Aires-based production label of Campanella, whose credits include episodes of “House,” the first season of USA Network 2016 cable drama “Colony” and 2001 comedy feature film “Son of the Bride,” nominated for a best international film Oscar, which Campanella won in 2010 with “The Secret in Their Eyes.”

Good Omens stars David Tennant and Michael Sheen have signed up for a BBC lockdown comedy in which they will play the cast of a furloughed West End theatre production during the coronavirus pandemic.

From Infinity Hill and Gcb Films, Staged follows the cast as they try to keep rehearsals on track during lockdown, with their efforts often bordering on the absurd and the humorous.

Tennant and Sheen will be joined by yet-to-be-confirmed guest stars for the series of six, 15-minute episodes. The confirmed cast does include Tennant’s wife Georgia Tennant, as well as Lucy Eaton and Anna Lundberg.

Staged was created by Simon Evans and Phin Glynn, with the former writing and directing. The producers are Glynn, Victor Glynn and Georgia Tennant. Tennant and Sheen are executive producers alongside Axel Kuschevatzky and Cindy Teperman for Infinity Hill, and Geoff Iles for Gcb.

Following Amazon Prime Video’s big hit with “Good Omens,” David Tennant and Michael Sheen will reteam to star in a brand new BBC lockdown comedy “Staged,” produced for BBC One by Infinity Hill and Gcb Films and due to air in June.

“Staged” turns on the cast of a play, described as the cream of British acting talent, who, furloughed when their upcoming West End production comes to a halt, attempt to keep rehearsals on track despite lockdown, BBC announced Friday.

The set up looks set to play with on-stage and off-stage fiction and true-life reality, with a dose of bathetic realism added by self-shooting and video conference technology as well as Tennant and Sheen’s portraying lockdown at the expense of their own dignity. The line-up also includes actor Georgia Tennant (“In the Dark”) and Anna Lundberg, Tennant and Sheen’s partners in real-life, as well as theater actress Lucy Eaton.

Berlin — Teaming two of the most energetic players on the new Spanish-language content scene, El Estudio and Infinity Hill are teaming to produce “Amor es Amor,” Rob Schneider’s Spanish-language movie debut as both an actor and director.

A comedy, “Amor es Amor” turns on Enrique Juarez, an up-and-coming Mexican telenovela actor on the verge of breakthrough as a leading man, who has to hide his true self in order to achieve stardom.

That includes creating a fake relationship with former pop sensation, Sofia. The mastermind behind the whole scheme is Julian Rodin (Schneider), a big TV network honcho, who is secretly having an affair with Sofia.

Viacom International Studios (Vis) has signed an exclusive first look development deal with Infinity Hill. The companies will co-develop and co-produce a slate of Spanish-language features, filmed globally and utilizing international talent on both sides of the camera.

Infinity Hill is the new label from longtime Telefonica and Viacom exec Axel Kuschevatzky, one of the Spanish-speaking world’s highest-profile film executives, “Waiting for Anya” producer Phin Glynn and producer Cindy Teperman (“Animal”). Buenos Aires — For much of this century, Argentina’s Axel Kuschevatzky led a double life.

On one hand, he served as a hugely hard-working movie producer for Telefe, then Telefonica Studios, then Viacom Intl. Media Networks, bringing their much-needed finance and promotion clout to some of the finest South American titles of the last decade: “The Secret in Their Eyes,” “Wild Tales,” “The Clan” and “Neruda.”

On the other, he was a glamorous Academy Awards presenter for TNT, a journalist, radio commentator, occasional screenwriter and even actor, channeling his huge passion and knowledge of film and beyond -Billy Wilder, jazz.

Now he’s cut loose. Kuschevatzky’s launch of independent film production company Infinity Hill, with producers Phin Glynn (“Waiting for Anya”) and Cindy Teperman (“Animal”), was the biggest news at least partially related to Latin America at November’s Afm.

Described by its makers as a“psycho-sexual fantastic thriller,” “The Intruder” stars two of Argentina’s most internationally-rated actors: Erica Rivas, extraordinary as the cheated-upon bride in “Wild Tales,” and Nahuel Pérez Biscayart, who earned international fame and a French Academy Cesar for Cannes critical and sales hit “Bpm (Beats Per Minute).”

Stranger Things‘ Noah Schnapp, Oscar winner Anjelica Huston (The Addams Family), Jean Reno (Leon) and Thomas Kretschmann (The Pianist) star in the feature about a 13 year-old shepherd (Schnapp), his grandfather (Reno) and a widow (Huston), who help smuggle Jewish children across the border from southern France into Spain during World War II.

Kaleidoscope says it is planning a wide theatrical release in February 2020, followed by digital and home entertainment releases in the summer. Schnapp is set to attend the film’s London premiere.

Exclusive: Batwoman and The Meg star Ruby Rose is attached to star in action-thriller Doorman for director Ryuhei Kitamura (Midnight Meat Train).

Doorman, which is slated to shoot in April 2019, tells the story of an officer in the Marines who becomes traumatized while serving her country and returns home looking for an opportunity to heal. She seeks refuge as a doorman at a labyrinthine, historic, New York apartment building but discovers that mercenaries are intent on destroying everything in their way to retrieve precious art hidden in the building walls.

Rose’s star is high following her lead casting in CW’s Batwoman, and turns in box office hits The Meg, John Wick: Chapter 2, xXx: Return of Xander Cage.

Exclusive: UK outfit Bad Penny Productions has optioned Brit writer Lawrence Osborne’s well-reviewed Cambodia-set thriller Hunters In The Dark.

Osborne and Ben Cookson (Waiting For Anya) will adapt the novel for screen. Producers on the feature will be Bad Penny’s Phin Glynn (Mad To Be Normal) and Daz Spencer Lovesey (Waiting for Anya).

The novel takes place in modern day Cambodia and sees an English teacher, Robert Grieve, win a satchel’s worth of money and decide to take a journey deeper into the wilder side of the country. Coming up against a scheming American, a crooked police officer and a darker side of Cambodia, Grieve follows his journey to a dramatic climax.

The film will be executive-produced by Norman Merry (The Nice Guys) and in association with post-production house Lipsync. Local production in Cambodia will be facilitated by Nicholas Simon (A Prayer Before Dawn) and IndoChina Productions.

Cast is lead by Stranger Things’ Noah Schnapp.
