'The Witcher' Star Graham McTavish Says Netflix Series Is "Lucky" to Have Liam Hemsworth
Image
The Witcher fans are still desperate to see Liam Hemsworth's Geralt in action. While we anxiously await the first trailer for Season 4 of Netflix's incredibly popular and divisive fantasy adaptation, Graham McTavish promises that even the most die-hard Henry Cavill fans will love Hemsworth's portrayal of Geralt. McTavish plays Sigismund Dijkstra, the Redanian spy in the series, working closely with Henry Cavill in the first three seasons. After Cavill departed from the show following Season 3, Liam Hemsworth stepped in to wield the silver sword.

Speaking to The Nerd Shepherd, Graham McTavish said fans will love Liam Hemsworth's performance, and expressed his thoughts about Netflix replacing Henry Cavill. "I cant really tell you too much about that because they [Netflix] would kill me," when asked for plot details about Season 3. But, the actor didn't hold back in his praise for Hemsworth. McTavish said:

Every Actor Confirmed To Be Returning For The Witcher Season 4
Image
The Witcher season 4 doesn't have a release date yet, which is no surprise given how the show has recast its lead role with Liam Hemsworth. Geralt of Rivia's mentor will also look different, as Vesemir's actor also won't be returning due to scheduling conflicts. But according to Netflix, the rest of The Witcher's regular cast will be returning, barring those who died during the climactic end of season 3.

The Witcher season 4 will also be bringing on several new cast members, such as fan-favorite vampire Regis, who will be played by Laurence Fishburne, as well as Danny Woodburn as Geralt's friend, the Dwarf swordsman Zoltan Chivay. With these additions, The Witcher's next outing will have a star-studded cast as the Netflix show reaches a tense point of adapting Andrzej Sapkowski's books.

'The Witcher' Fans Still Have One Reason to Be Excited for the Netflix Show
Image
The Witcher is fighting an uphill battle going into its final two seasons. Die-hard fans have reminded their friends and families that Henry Cavill was the only person to play Geralt of Rivia way too many times, alongside the myriad of other issues facing the loose adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski's novels. But Cavill is gone (he's likely too busy playing Space Marine 2), and Liam Hemsworth is in as the new White Wolf. Some have already written off Hemsworth and Season 4. But he could be the saving grace the show desperately needs.

Why did fans love Henry Cavill so much? As well as being the internet's boyfriend, Cavill was a massive fan of the franchise before joining the show. He had reportedly played The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt a dozen times and dove straight into the novels after that. The Man of Steel star is hailed as the shining...

Quick Links The Witcher Season 4 Faces an Uphill Battle With Fans The Witcher Season 4 Will Need to Be Flawless to Satisfy Fans

Based on the Polish novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher has quickly become one of Netflixs biggest series. The show follows the adventures of Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill) as he navigates a fictional, medieval-inspired world known as the Continent and battles droves of monsters in return for coins. Linked by destiny to Princess Cirilla of Cintra, known as Ciri (Freya Allan), he becomes her protector and de facto adoptive father thanks to an ancient custom known as the Law of Surprise. Powerful in her own right, Ciri possesses abilities no one has seen in centuries. As a result, many across the Continent aim to use her for their own political purposes. Because of this, Geralt enlists the help of a powerful sorceress named Yennefer (Anya Chalotra), who he also happens to love,...

The Witcher Star Seemingly Confirms Season 4 Filming Wrap
Image
It looks like principal photography on The Witcher Season 4 has concluded. Freya Allan, who portrays Ciri in the Netflix series, has shared a heartfelt post on social media that seemingly suggests that filming has wrapped for the upcoming season.

In an Instagram post, Allan shared hand-drawn illustrations of the actors who portray The Rats in the Netflix series Christelle Elwin, Aggy K. Adams, Ben Radcliffe, Juliette Alexandra, Fabian McCallum, and Connor Crawford. "Mistle, Iskra, Giselher, Reef, Kayleigh, Asse. I love you all. Thank you for the most special season of [The Witcher]," read the caption. While Allan's post doesn't definitively confirm that filming has been completed, its timing aligns with a comment made by new The Witcher lead Liam Hemsworth, who shared at the start of October that there was still about three weeks of filming left on Season 4.

The Witcher Star Freya Allan Teases Production Wrap on Season 4
Image
Season 4 of Netflix's The Witcher has potentially wrapped production, as revealed by Freya Allan in an emotional post on social media. Allan stars as Ciri, the last surviving royal of Cintra who was taken in by Geralt of Rivia and trained to be a Witcher. Despite Season 4's production being hit with some major casting issues, it appears that Netflix has overcome the hump and shooting may have wrapped on the penultimate season of the popular fantasy series.

Allan shared some hand-drawn sketches of her co-stars on Instagram, possibly confirming that the actress has wrapped shooting on Season 4. The drawings showcase her Rats co-stars. At the end of Season 3, Ciri escaped the Frying Pan desert and was taken in by the ragtag group of teenage criminals. "Mistle, Iskra, Giselher, Reef, Kayleigh, Asse. I love you all. Quick Links The Witcher Season 4 Has Lost Another Cast Member It's Time to Cut The Witcher Franchise Loose

Production is currently underway on the fourth season of Netflix's The Witcher adaptation. Based on the beloved novels by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, Season 1 was released in 2019 to a relatively positive reception. Starring Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, The Witcher follows the titular mutated monster hunter as he begrudgingly finds himself taking care of a young princess who is being hunted by the rulers of every major leader on The Continent. Unfortunately, the subsequent two seasons received far worse reviews and reactions from fans. While critics seemingly agree that the series improved in its following seasons, the fan base's consensus has been increasingly pessimistic. Season 1 sat at an 89% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. But Season 2 saw that jump down to 54%, and Season 3 plummeted to just 19%.

The Witcher Star Kim Bodnia Exits the Netflix Series Ahead of Season 4
Image
There's more bad news for fans of The Witcher, as it's not just Henry Cavill who has bid farewell to The Continent. While Netflix has already found their new White Wolf in Liam Hemsworth, the studio will also have to look for another core Witcher, as Kim Bodnia, who plays Vesemir in the series, will not be returning for the final two seasons. Bodnia portrayed the beloved Witcher tutor in Season 2, as Geralt returned to Kaer Morhen (the Witchers' keep) with Ciri (Freya Allen) and Triss Merigold (Anna Shaffer).

A new report from Redanian Intelligence has confirmed that Kim Bodnia will not play Vesemir in the upcoming fourth season of The Witcher. It did not cite a reason why the Killing Eve star stepped away from the hit fantasy series. These 2 Netflix Franchises Make Me Nervous For Greta Gerwigs Chronicles Of Narnia
Image
Greta Gerwig's Narnia films have potential with her artistic vision and faithful adaptation to C.S. Lewis's books. Recent Netflix fantasy franchises like The Witcher raise concerns about deviations from the source material. Netflix's decisions on Rebel Moon show the importance of full creative control and staying true to the original vision.

I'm on board for Greta Gerwig's Chronicles of Narnia movies, though there are some recent Netflix franchises that raise concerns about how the adaptations could be handled. I was the perfect age for Disney's Narnia adaptations upon their release in the 2000s, and I'll always hold some consideration for them as fun, light-hearted fantasy movies. However, I feel like it's fair to admit that they're not as definitive of adaptations as Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy or the Harry Potter series, which arrived around the same time. That opens the door for Greta Gerwig's Narnia movies.

The Witcher renewed for fifth and final season at Netflix
Henry Cavill, Freya Allan, and Anya Chalotra in The Witcher (2019)
Geralt of Rivia’s story has an end date on Netflix.

On Thursday, the streaming service renewed The Witcher for Season 5, but revealed that it would be the last season.

The shocking announcement comes as production is finally getting underway on The Witcher Season 4 following countless setbacks.

“It is with huge pride that we begin shooting our penultimate Season of The Witcher with a stellar cast, including some exciting new additions, led by Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia,” showrunner Lauren Hissrich shared in a statement.

“We’re thrilled to be able to bring Andrzej Sapkowski’s books to an epic and satisfying conclusion. It wouldn’t be our show if we didn’t push our family of characters to their absolute limit — stay tuned to see how the story ends.”

Saying goodbye to the hit fantasy drama will be tough, but at least we have two seasons that will help soften the blow.

‘On The Line’ VOD Review
Image
Stars: Victoria Lucie, Royce Pierreson, Harriet Walter, Joanne Rogers, Thomas Bliss, Sally Geake, Richard Heap, Chris Donnelly | Written and Directed by Oliver Pearn

For his feature debut, writer/director Oliver Pearn crafts a story set in 1964 on Aldernay (one of the Channel Islands). Agnes (Victoria Lucie) works as a telephone operator to connect the whole island through her switchboard, a role she considers leaving with her wedding day moving ever closer. Her typical day is shaken by a distressing call from a woman asking for help, which leaves Agnes intent on helping however possible.

While On The Line is confined to a single room, the story unfolds through phone calls to have conversations audibly convey what is happening. Pearn heightens the tension to terrifically make it an engrossing watch, particularly when aided by a compelling lead performance. Lucie effectively captures Agnes’ investment in this situation, as she tries proactively helping through investigations from her workstation,...

10 TV Shows Whose Timelines Are Way More Confusing Than They Need To Be
Image
Several TV shows have unnecessarily confusing timelines, with non-linear storytelling, flashbacks, and flash-forwards contributing to the confusion. Shows like The Witcher, Lost, and Westworld stand out for their particularly confusing timelines, jumping between different periods and timelines. While some shows manage to make their complex timelines satisfying once understood, others could benefit from simplifying their narratives and focusing on one timeline or universe at a time, like Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Fringe.

It's not uncommon for TV shows to employ complicated timelines, but there are a few shows whose timelines are far more confusing than they need to be. Non-linear narrative structures have become increasingly common, which is one easy way for a show's timeline to become more complicated than necessary. Sometimes, this type of storytelling can enhance a narrative by increasing dramatic tension, other times it just befuddles audiences, making it difficult to know what's going on even in great TV shows.

The 12 Most Powerful Magic Users In Netflix's The Witcher, Ranked
Image
Spoilers for all three seasons of "The Witcher" abound.

Sometimes, a show is more than its name. Netflix's "The Witcher," an adaptation of the eponymous series of novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, is ostensibly centered around the titular character — Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), the world's mightiest of the specialized, enormously skillful, magically enhanced monster hunters for hire known as Witchers. Yet the series' elaborate plot, taking place on a vast aggregation of magical realms known as the Continent, is not at all limited to Geralt and his exploits. In fact, one of the things that make him interesting and dynamic as a protagonist is precisely the fact that he isn't involved with the Continent's central source of conflict, intrigue, and strife: Magic, and the sorcerers and sorceresses who wield it.

"The Witcher" is just as concerned with politics and the complexities of wartime as it is with magic and its use,...

The Witcher Season 3 rises to the top of the Netflix charts
Image
Henry Cavill fans have spoken by helping The Witcher reclaim its spot atop the Netflix English-language charts from July 24 to July 30. The second batch of episodes for The Witcher Season 3 debuted on July 27, with 7.8M views making for an impressive debut! The season has amassed 47.7M views since the first half of the season cast a spell on Netflix subscribers.

Inspired by a series of novels written by Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family — the story of the intertwined destinies of three individuals in the vast world of The Continent, where humans, elves, witches, gnomes, and monsters battle to survive and thrive, and where good and evil are not easily identified.

The Witcher Season 3 is based on the book Time of Contempt. This season has the following synopsis: As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding,...

What's Up With Falka And Her Rebellion In The Witcher Season 3?
Image
This post contains spoilers for "The Witcher" season 3 volume 2.

If you're well-versed in the lore of Andrzej Sapkowski's "The Witcher" book series, the final moment of Netflix's season 3 finale might have left you saying some variation of, "Aw, hell yeah!" If you haven't read the books, Ciri's last-minute name-drop perhaps feels a lot less significant, but it's obvious to even the most casual viewers that it's a major moment. After all, it's not Geralt that gets the last word this season, but Ciri, as she introduces herself to the gang of fellow survivors called The Rats after assisting them in the slaughter of their captors. "Call me Falka," she says, just before the credits roll.

This isn't the first time we've heard the name Falka: The character was first mentioned back in season 2, but audiences met her in the penultimate episode of the new season, during Ciri's vision-filled quest through the Korath Desert.

The Witcher Season 3 Volume 2 Trailer: Henry Cavill's Witcher Days Are Almost Over
Image
Whichever way "The Witcher" (say that three times fast!) elects to send off Henry Cavill's Geralt of Rivia, Netflix's marketing team is certainly pulling out all the stops. The streamer has released a second and final trailer for season 3 volume 2 just a few days ahead of its arrival, complete with all the trimmings "Witcher" fans could ask for. There's even a line or two of dialogue that all but explicitly nods to Cavill's impending departure from the show. It's almost enough to give you a lump in your throat, in-between the clips of our treasured grouchy monster hunter dad going all stabbity-stabbity on his enemies.

"We didn't come this far just to abandon each other," Geralt growls at one point. "Then don't abandon me," Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) replies, as the trailer shows Geralt and his "dear friend" holding back tears. It's not all vulnerable admissions and earnest sentiment,...

The Witcher's Monoliths Explained: Material, Conjunction, Ciri & Future
Image
Warning: the following contains Spoilers for The Witcher season 3, part 1.

The Witcher’s monoliths are huge black pillars of stone that appeared across the Continent after the Conjunction of the Spheres, over a thousand years before the events in the series. No such monoliths exist in The Witcher books by Andrzej Sapkowski, on which the games and Netflix series are based. The writers of the series have also actively avoided becoming "an adaptation of an adaptation" by lifting elements only from the books and not the games. This is why it’s interesting that the monoliths in the series are preceded not by the novels but by an in-game quest.,

In The Witcher games, much smaller monoliths are scattered across the map in the shape of the Sefirot, which originates from the Jewish esoteric discipline of Kabbalah. Later, it’s revealed that these monoliths are the key to opening an...

After discovering that mages Rience (Chris Fulton) and Lydia (Aisha Fabienne Ross) are after Ciri for a mysterious benefactor and Rogue Mage who is experimenting on young girls from Aretuza, Yennefer proposes a Conclave to find out who the Rogue Mage is and whether or not Aretuza will be a safe place for Ciri to learn how to control her powers.

While Geralt and Yennefer prepare to attend the Conclave and confront Stregobor (Lars Mikkelson) – who they believe to be the Rogue Mage – Jaskier (Joey Batey) and Ciri take refuge in a cabin nearby. Radovid...

This Small Detail in the Witcher Season 3 Signals the Return of an Important Prequel Character
Image
This Witcher article contains spoilers for season 3 part 1 and The Witcher: Blood Origin.

In the first part of The Witcher season 3, we learn that Istredd (Royce Pierreson) is one of many people looking for Ciri (Freya Allan) across the Continent. After learning of her Elder Blood last season, he seems to be interested in her connection to the Monoliths for academic purposes. Rather than sending soldiers or monsters after Ciri, his search for answers first sends him on a quest to find the Book of Monoliths, an old elven book that supposedly “holds the key to traveling between spheres.”

Based on information he gets from super sleuths Codringher (Simon Callow) and Fenn (Liz Carr), Istredd tracks the book to an elven cavern near Nilfgaard and is shocked to find that someone from Aretuza had already claimed it. When he returns to his alma mater for the Conclave, he helps Triss...
