Marc Maron Sets HBO Comedy Special for 2025
Image
Marc Maron has a new stand-up comedy special coming to HBO later this year.

The special, which Variety hears consists of material from his “All In” tour, will be filmed in New York City in May.

The comedy hour will be Maron’s sixth stand-up special and comes two years after his latest for HBO, “From Bleak to Dark,” in which Maron discussed the death of his partner, Lynn Shelton, who died of cancer during the pandemic.

Maron is perhaps best-known for his podcast “Wtf With Marc Maron,” which launched in 2009 and has become one of the most famous podcasts in the country, with more than 1,600 episodes. On it, he’s interviewed everyone from Barack Obama to Keith Richards to Carol Burnett. (His episode with Robin Williams became the first one-on-one podcast episode to enter America’s National Recording Registry.)

Maron is also known for his role in Netflix’s women’s wrestling dramedy “Glow,...

Marc Maron Joins Melissa McCarthy in Universal’s Holiday Comedy (Exclusive)
Image
Marc Maron has joined the cast of Universal’s untitled New York Christmas movie, written by Richard Curtis, the Oscar-nominated screenwriter of “Four Weddings and a Funeral,” “Notting Hill” and “Love Actually.”

Maron is starring alongside Melissa McCarthy and Paapa Essiedu in the film, a fairy-tale comedy about a workaholic man who enlists the help of a magical genie to help win his family back before Christmas.

Sam Boyd, who wrote and created the Anna Kendrick-led HBO Max series “Love Life,” will direct. It’s set to premiere on the NBCUniversal-owned streaming service Peacock on a yet-to-be-determined date.

Maron hosts the popular podcast “Wtf With Marc Maron” and recently debuted his first HBO stand-up special “From Bleak to Dark.” His other comedy specials include 2013’s “Thinky Pain,” 2015’s “More Later,” 2017’s “Too Real” and 2020’s “End Times Fun” on Netflix. On “Wtf With Marc Maron” — which launched in...

Rooney Mara to Star in Zach Cregger’s Barbarian Follow-Up Weapons
Zach Cregger
After a major bidding war, Zach Cregger’s Barbarian follow-up Weapons landed at New Line and now we have a few major updates. With a shoot set to kick off this July, Production Weekly reports Rooney Mara will star in the project and they’ve revealed a logline: “A multi and inter-related story horror epic centered around witchcraft and missing children.” The film was previously described as being tonally in the vein of Paul Thomas Anderson’s 1999 epic Magnolia, so expect many more cast members to join the ensemble.

After Netflix announced August Wilson’s Broadway play The Piano Lesson is getting the big-screen treatment a few years back, we’ve now gleaned more about the players involved. Production Weekly reports that Malcolm Washington, Denzel Washington’s son, will direct the adaptation, while John David Washington and Samuel L. Jackson will reprise their roles. Here’s the official synopsis:

Daniel Craig to Lead Luca Guadagnino’s Queer, Taylor Swift Sets Directorial Debut & More
With both debuting new projects this fall season, Glass Onion star Daniel Crag and Bones and All director Luca Guadagnino are looking to team on a new film. Above the Line reports that it will be an adaptation of the William S. Burroughs novel Queer. “Set in the corrupt and spectral Mexico City of the forties, Queer is the story of William Lee, a man afflicted with both acute heroin withdrawal and romantic and sexual yearnings for an indifferent user named Eugene Allerton,” reads the synopsis of the novel, which was written in the early 50s but not published until 1985. With the director currently in post-production on Challengers, this is expected to be his next film.

Next up, details are scant, but as she vies for an Oscar nomination with her short All Too Well, Cats star Taylor Swift is setting up her feature directorial debut. Variety reports she’ll...

Marc Maron, a comedian who hosts the popular podcast “Wtf With Marc Maron,” is debuting a stand-up special on HBO in 2023. The comedy hour will feature all-new material and will be taped in front of a live audience at New York City’s Town Hall on Dec. 8.

“I’ve wanted to do an HBO special my entire life. Literally my entire life. Not since I started doing comedy, but since I started watching comedy as a kid. It was where the real comedy happened. Always. I’m honored to be working with them. And they get the deep funny.”
