Exclusive:Altitude has sold Hugo Keijzer’s sci-fi thriller The Occupantto North America, UK-Ireland and Australia-New Zealand ahead of its world premiere at SXSW London in June.

Decal has picked up North American rights while Signature Entertainment will release in UK-Ireland and Australia-New Zealand.

Rob Delaney and Ella Balinska star. A woman finds herself stranded and alone in the Caucasus mountains, where a mysterious helper offers her the choice between accepting the inevitable or abandoning reality.

Mister Smith Entertainment has closed multiple international sales for the adventure comedy Bookworm, starring Elijah Wood and Nell Fisher.

The feature, from Come to Daddy director Ant Timpson follows 11-year-old Mildred (Fisher) whose life takes a wild turn when her estranged father, a washed-up Las Vegas illusionist Strawn Wise (Wood) suddenly reappears. Strawn is left to care for Mildred while her mom is hospitalized and the pair set off on a trip to find the mythological Canterbury Panther.

Mister Smith closed deals on the film for Photon Films in Canada; Metropolitan in France; Plaion Pictures in Germany, Italy and Switzerland; and La Aventura in Spain, among other territories. Vertical Entertainment picked up the film for the U.S. earlier this year. Signature Entertainment will release in the U.K.

Sebastian Stan was tasked with gaining 15 pounds when he took on the role of Donald Trump in “The Apprentice” — a feat he managed with the help of Coca-Cola. “I actually started drinking a lot of Coca-Cola. Tell you, if you drink four Coca-Colas a day, a lot of things happen to your body. Don’t do it,” he told “Entertainment Tonight.”

“I think it is important that we try and understand this person beyond just, you know, the red tie and the flare and the mannerisms and everything, and just try to get underneath it,” Stan added.

Updated, 1:57 p.m.: Within a day of launching a Kickstarter campaign in hopes of expanding Donald Trump biopic The Apprentice‘s distribution potential, the filmmakers have exceeded their goal.

While the team behind the hot-button Ali Abbasi film had initially sought $100,000, which would help them get the film in front of as many viewers as possible, they’ve received $139,063 as of this writing from 2,040 backers, with 25 days to go in the campaign.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter) to celebrate, Abbasi wrote, “Wow we crushed our kickstarter target in one day! Apparently people Do want to see #TheApprentice in cinemas.”

Coming off of its North American premiere at the Telluride Film Festival, Briarcliff Entertainment announced the film starring Sebastian Stan as a young Donald Trump would get an October 11, 2024 theatrical release. The pre-election date release is good news for Abbasi and his controversial movie. However, the filmmaker wants to expand the film’s audience via the “Release the Apprentice” Kickstarter campaign.

“The Apprentice is first and foremost humanist, which makes it radically different from all the political noise,” stated executive producer Amy Baer.

The controversial movie Donald Trump doesn’t want people to see is still being lined up for a pre-election release in the U.S.

The Apprentice, which made waves at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, is due for release stateside by Briarcliff, as we first reported. October 11 has been the date we’ve heard for a while now, but uncertainty has been fueled by a dispute with financier Kinematics, which is backed by Trump supporter Dan Snyder who reportedly took umbrage at the film’s depiction of the former Potus. The players have been inching towards a resolution and hopes are that it will be fully resolved in a matter of days.

The movie is due to roll out internationally from mid-late October with dates already set in multiple key markets. Last we heard, Kinematics was being bought out of the movie with its $5 million investment back and a premium of around $2M.

Joel Kinnaman recently starred in John Woo‘s film Silent Night, which emphasized action over dialogue. Kinnaman now stars in another similar auditory-themed action film titled The Silent Hour. Here, Kinnaman’s character suffers a gradual loss of hearing due to an on-the-job incident while trying to catch a criminal. Mekhi Phifer leads a group of bad guys dead-set on collecting evidence from a deaf witness. And the action explodes as our hearing-impaired protagonists try to escape the impending danger. Paramount has just released the trailer. The Silent Hour hits theaters and digital on October 11.

“Boston Detective Frank Shaw (Joel Kinnaman) returns to duty after a career-altering injury leaves him with permanent hearing loss. Tasked with interpreting for Ava Fremont (Sandra Mae Frank), a deaf witness to a brutal gang murder, they find themselves cornered in a soon-to-be-condemned apartment building when the killers return to eliminate her.

Juliette Lewis and Peter Dinklage are unlikely outlaws, and cruel and bloody killers to boot, in the trailer for Tubi’s dark Western The Thicket, which dropped on Tuesday.

While intrigue continues to surround the film’s U.S. release prospects, Cannes Competition title The Apprentice, about Trump’s rise to power, has been sold to key independent distributors in a host of international markets where demand has been strong.

International sales firm Rocket Science has set deals for the film’s release in Italy (Bim), Spain (Vertigo Films), Scandinavia (Nordisk), Benelux (The Searchers), Greece (Odeon), Portugal (Lusomundo), Eastern Europe (M2), Japan (Kino), Latin America (Sun), Israel (Lev Cinema), Airlines (Skeye) and Australia & New Zealand (Madman).

AGC Studios and Meridian Pictures has sold U.S. and Canada as well as Asia pay TV rights for the Brad Anderson-directed thriller “The Silent Hour,” starring “Suicide Squad’s” Joel Kinnaman, “1917’s” Mark Strong, “New Amsterdam’s” Sandra Mae Frank and “8 Mile’s” Mekhi Phifer, to the newly revitalized Paramount label Republic Pictures.

In the film, Kinnaman plays a Boston police detective who suffers an on-the-job accident that leaves him hearing impaired. Sixteen months later, he and his friend and partner (Strong) must battle Lynch (Phifer) and a team of corrupt cops attempting to eliminate a deaf murder witness (Frank) in the apartment building where she lives.

Evil Dead Rise actress Nell Fisher and Bad Sisters actor Michael Smiley are set to join Elijah Wood in Bookworm, a new family adventure comedy from New Zealand director Ant Timpson (Come to Daddy).

Fisher will play Mildred, a 12-year-old girl whose life is turned upside down when her estranged, washed-up American magician father, Strawn Wise (Wood), comes to look after her. Hoping to bond with the tween, Strawn takes Mildred on an ill-advised camping trip into the rugged New Zealand wilderness in a quest to find the mythological beast known as the Canterbury Panther, named after the region on New Zealand’s South Island.

Last year, writer/director Joachim Hedén brought us the survival thriller Breaking Surface (watch it Here), about a woman struggling to save her sister, who was trapped underwater by a rockslide in the icy waters of Norway. Now Hedén is in production on another thriller about diving – but this time around, the threat to the divers are sharks. The Kaley Cuoco-Pete Davidson romantic comedy movie we first told you about, Meet Cute, will hit Peacock on Wednesday, Sept. 21.

The Weed Pictures production follows the story of Sheila (Cuoco) and Gary (Davidson). When they meet, it’s love at first sight – until we realize their magical date wasn’t fate at all. Sheila’s got a time machine, and they’ve been falling in love over and over again.

“If I had a time machine right now I’d be torn. Do I skip ahead to our release date or do I go back and relive the joy it was making this film? “Meet Cute,” the romantic comedy starring Pete Davidson and Kaley Cuoco, has landed at Peacock, where it will premiere Sept. 21.

The “SNL” alum and “The Flight Attendant” star play Gary and Sheila, who fall in love at first sight and spend a perfect evening together. If their meet-cute sounds too good to be true, that’s because it is: it turns out Sheila has a time machine, and she’s been using it to relive the night over and over again. When their first date leaves them wanting more, Sheila travels back into Gary’s past to try to change him into the perfect man.

Alex Lehmann (“Paddleton”) directed from a script by Noga Pnueli (“Deborah”), who also executive produces alongside Davidson and Cuoco.

Exclusive: Deadline has learned that Emmy-winning The Handmaid’s Tale actress Ann Dowd has joined the Amy Rice-directed political thriller The Independent, which Relativity Media and Rogue Pictures have also acquired North American rights on.

The movie stars Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim), Brian Cox (Succession), and John Cena (Suicide Squad) and is written by Evan Parter. The pic is currently shooting in New York and scheduled for a theatrical release in 2022.

Set during the final weeks of the most consequential presidential election in history, The Independent follows an idealistic young journalist (Turner-Smith) who teams up with her idol (Cox) to uncover a conspiracy that places the fate of the election, and the country, in their hands. Cena and Dowd play opposing Presidential candidates. Dowd, who was nominated for a Critic’s Choice Award this week for Mass, replaces Kathy Bates who departed the production due to scheduling conflicts.

The cast includes two-time Tony Award winner Norbert Leo Butz (“Fosse/Verdon”), Dale Dickey, Eddie Marsan, Bailey Noble, and Katheryn Winnick (“Vikings”).

With the Efm in Berlin looming on the horizon, Flower Films and The Exchange announced on Wednesday (23) that production has begun on Jamie Babbit’s romantic comedy The Stand-In, produced by and starring Drew Barrymore.
