The 2024 animated Transformers movie, directed by Josh Cooley, explores Optimus Prime and Megatron's untold origins before their rivalry. The original plan was to kick-start a trilogy, with plans for the sequels already mapped out. Via TFW2005, Mpg-17 Optimus Prime is the newest Masterpiece-style mold for Optimus Prime, and the toy showcases the new design ethos for The Transformers: Mpg. Different from previous releases in the series, this toy combines high-quality molding with a more stylized aesthetic. With reservations set to open soon, it's just one of several toys being made for the ubiquitous Autobot leader.

When Hasbro first introduced America to Transformers, it felt monumental and completely new. A simultaneous release of cartoons and toyline each featuring robots that changed into vehicles was unprecedented for Western audiences. Yet here it was, intricate lore, immersive world and all. Little did the children consuming Transformers' animated series and play with their toys know they were indulging in well-established concepts.

As early as a decade before Optimus Prime bellowed his "Autobots, roll out!", Japanese animation studios had already had several successful iterations of nearly every concept that made Transformers what it was. From warring factions to intricate robotic engineering, an abundance of anime bore the torch for Transformers. The Hasbro franchise undoubtedly took said torch and ran with it, achieving unparalleled success, but its predecessors, from Voltron to Brave Raideen, are more than deserving of a deep dive.

There's a cruel irony to "Transformers One," 2024's animated prequel film about the robots in disguise. Directed by Josh Cooley, "Transformers One" is the first great "Transformers" movie — yet we may never get a "Transformers Two."

I like the original 1986 "Transformers: The Movie." I understand why its rock-n-rollin soundtrack ("You've got the touch!") and epic moments -- from Optimus Prime's sacrifice to the planet eater Unicron revealing his enormous true form -- will burn into your brain if you see it at the right age. But the script is pretty slapdash, the animation is richer and more detailed than that in the '80s cartoon but still filled with careless errors, and the whole cynical purpose of the film is galling.

Meanwhile, all of the live-action "Transformers" movies directed by Michael Bay lie on a sliding scale of bad. "Bumblebee" is good, if slight, but then "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" was so boring.

First revealed in 2024, the newest Transformersline from Takara Tomy is finally on its way. This includes not only an experimental new toy line, but also a 14-episode anime that's the first of its kind in years.

Transformers Wild King combines the familiar Optimus Prime and Megatron with bestial new partners as their epic battle takes on an animalistic new form. So far, six toys in total have been revealed, with the anime being released in under a week. This comes amid several other Transformers animated shows being released in a similar format.
