Tom Sandoval’s Assistant Tells All: Why Ann Was ‘Crushed’ When He Cheated, How She Kept the Peace With Ariana and Her ‘Vanderpump’ Future
Image
When “Vanderpump Rules” returned for Season 11 on Jan. 30, viewers and cast members alike were still reeling from what might be one of reality television’s most shocking scandals ever — the revelation that Tom Sandoval was cheating on longtime girlfriend Ariana Madix with their co-star Rachel Leviss, which was quickly deemed the #Scandoval.

Though Sandoval and Madix split as a couple in March 2023, the season premiere showed the two still live in their Valley Village house, while maintaining a no-contact policy. Safe to say this has made a tense breakup even more so — case in point: the season’s second episode, “The Ultimate Betrayal,” in which Sandoval is nearly barred from having a birthday party at the house because Madix disapproves.

What provided comic relief during the episode, which highlighted the former couple’s uncomfortable dynamic, was Sandoval’s now-former assistant, Ann Maddox. Among her many responsibilities, she helped Sandoval and...

Minx Season 3: Cancelation & Everything We Know
Image
Quick Links Minx Season 3 Is Canceled Minx Season 3 Cast Minx Season 3 Story Minx has officially been canceled by Starz, effectively ending the show forever. The season 2 finale left plenty of plot threads for Minx season 3 to explore, including the aftermath of Joyce's rebellious act. The core cast, including Ophelia Lovibond and Jake Johnson, were expected to return for season 3 if it was renewed, along with other characters like Bambi and Constance.

Minx season 3 was more than teased by the cliffhanger-heavy season 2 finale, but the period comedy has once again been canceled. The raunchy comedy Minx received praise for its quirky characters and colorful 1970's world of adult magazine publishing, detailing the story of the first erotic magazine aimed at the female market. Minx debuted on HBO Max in 2022 before moving over to Starz for 2023's season 2.

HBO's decision to cancel Minx was again called into question when reviews for Minx season 2 rolled in,...

Minx has been canceled yet again, this time by Starz
Image
Minx didn’t have much luck. After being canceled by HBO Max after one season, the erotic comedy was saved by Starz, but Minx has been canceled yet again following its second season.

The news isn’t all that surprising, but still a blow for fans of the series. Set in 1970s Los Angeles, Minx stars Ophelia Lovibond as Joyce, an “earnest young feminist who joins forces with low-rent publisher (Jake Johnson) to create the first erotic magazine for women.” In addition to Ophelia Lovibond and Jake Johnson, Minx also stars Idara Victor, Jessica Lowe, Lennon Parham, Michael Angarano, and Oscar Montoya. The first season stands at 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, although its audience score is much lower.

Minx Season 3 Not Happening As Comedy Gets Cancelled For Second Time
Image
Minx season 3 was officially canceled, leaving fans disappointed. Starz ends '70s-set comedy show despite a previous revival. Ophelia Lovibond and Jake Johnson's Minx won't return for season 3

Minx season 3 isn’t happening, as the period comedy show has been canceled for the second time. Canceled for the first time by Max after an acclaimed season 1, Minx was given a second chance at life when season 2 was picked up by Starz. The ‘70s-set comedy charting the rise of a scrappy feminist magazine scored with critics in its second go-around, as reflected in season 2’s 89% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, sparking hopes of a third season.

Those high Minx season 3 hopes have unfortunately been dashed, however, as Starz has now itself canceled the show (via Deadline). The move comes on the heels of Starz canceling its comedy Shining Vale, which was also removed from its streaming platforms. Starz executives reportedly...

‘Minx’ Canceled Again After Getting Reprieve By Starz
Image
Starz will not be proceeding with a third season of 1970s-set series Minx.

The news is not surprising. Minx star Jake Johnson told Deadline last month that he did not expect a Season 3 renewal for the period erotic comedy, whose Season 2 finale aired Sept. 8.

Starz last January stepped in to rescue Minx, starring Ophelia Lovibond and Johnson, following the series’ cancellation by Max (then HBO Max) as part of cost-cutting tax write-offs while production was wrapping on Season 2. The premium network, which is in the process of cutting ties with owner Lionsgate, picked up both Season 1 and the unaired Season 2 of Minx, which is produced by Lionsgate Television. Both seasons will remain on the Starz app and all major platforms.

Speaking with Deadline, Johnson, who had cut his hair short in anticipation of the cancellation, referenced of Minx‘s first axing and the challenges the show faced by its second...

‘Minx’ Canceled at Starz
Image
Bottom Dollar is closing shop.

Starz has opted to cancel Minx, the comedy about the first porn magazine for women, after a two-season run. The news comes after the series from creator Ellen Rapoport was originally developed for Warner Bros. Discovery streamer Max, which aired the first season and paid for a second before ultimately scrapping the show as a tax write-off with mere days remaining before production on the sophomore run was completed.

Minx was shopped by producers Lionsgate Television with the studio ultimately setting up the comedy starring Jake Johnson and Ophelia Lovibond at Starz, which is currently controlled by its parent company, Lionsgate. Max effectively paid to produce season two, with Lionsgate footing the bill to complete production and market season two. The second season premiered in July, in the thick of the writers and performers’ strikes making it challenging for cast members and producers to promote the show’s return.

‘Minx’ Canceled at Starz After Network Rescued Show From Max
Image
“Minx” has been canceled at Starz, Variety has learned.

This now marks the second time the series has been canceled. The first season of the comedy originally aired on Max, where it was renewed for a second season before it was canceled in a cost-cutting move.

Starz then announced that they had acquired the second season of the show and would air it along with the first. Season 2 debuted on Starz on July 21. Both seasons remain available to stream on the Starz app and platforms.

The show received positive reviews from critics, holding an average critical approval rating of 93% over both seasons on Rotten Tomatoes. It failed to find a large audience, however, with the linear airings on Starz of Season 2 averaging less than 100,000 viewers per episode. There is no streaming viewership data publicly available for the series.

“Minx” was set in 1970s Los Angeles. Per the official logline, the...

Minx: Season Three? EP Jake Johnson Thinks Starz Series Has Likely Been Cancelled
It looks like Minx won't be back for a third season. Star and executive producer Jake Johnson isn't expecting Starz to renew the low-rated series. Season two finished airing on the cable channel in early September.

A comedy series, the Minx TV show stars Ophelia Lovibond, Johnson, Idara Victor, Jessica Lowe, Lennon Parham, Oscar Montoya, and Elizabeth Perkins. ‘Minx’ Season 3 Renewal Unlikely, Says Star Jake Johnson: “My Guess Is You Can’t Beat Something Up That Many Times And Keep Going”
Image
A third season of Starz’s period erotic comedy Minx isn’t likely in the cards, according to co-ep and star Jake Johnson.

In a recent Zoom chat with Deadline, the actor shared that he hasn’t heard anything about a final decision. “But by evidence of me cutting my hair short,” he said, “I don’t [expect a renewal].”

“I think the move to Starz, I think HBO kind of doing their HBO thing, or HBO Max, whatever it’s called now, I think that was brutal for [the show],” Johnson reflected. “Then, I think the strike coming out right as we were trying to promote it…My guess is you can’t beat something up that many times and keep going.”

Johnson called the hampering of the show’s success, simply as a result of the turbulent Hollywood moment in which it debuted, “unfortunate,” given his feeling that “there was a lot to that show.

Dicks: The Musical Review: Comedy That Plays to the Cheap Seats…and Sucks Itself Off
Josh Sharp
Based on Aaron Jackson and Josh Sharp’s Off-Broadway show Fucking Identical Twins, Dicks: The Musical plays to the cheap seats from the get-go. This perverse riff on The Parent Trap—in which identical twins separated at birth, Craig (Sharp) and Trevor (Jackson), meet and try to reunite their gay father, Harris (Nathan Lane), with their agoraphobic, wheelchair-bound mother, Evelyn (Megan Mullally)—delights in breaking the rules of good taste. Yet its ceaseless reveling in the raunchy and depraved, including a queer, coke-snorting God (Bowen Yang) and a detached flying vagina, is all that Dicks has going for it.

Larry Charles’s film opens with something of a mission statement: sarcastic on-screen text declaring that Sharp and Jackson are gay and that their decision to play misogynistic straight dudes is incredibly brave. It’s a clear shot at the overt self-satisfaction of certain actors’ tendencies to inflate their own sense...

'Minx' Can Come Back Stronger Than Ever
Image
In Hear Me Out, Primetimer staffers and contributors espouse their pet theories, hot takes, and even the occasional galaxy-brain idea.

Bottom Dollar is no more. The scrappy porn publisher at the center of Starz’s Minx has been replaced with a shiny new conglomerate — Papadopoulos-Renetti Global — that puts Doug Renetti (Jake Johnson) back on top, and at odds with his former co-workers. It’s a not-so-surprising turn of events, as their publisher and one-time savior Constance Papadopoulos (Elizabeth Perkins) spent much of Season 2 shaking up the company structure and, by extension, the group dynamic. The billionaire widow may have seemed impressed by Joyce (Ophelia Lovibond) and Doug’s efforts, even taking the time to bestow praise and promotions on art director Richie (Oscar Montoya) and managing editor Tina (Idara Victor), but she was covertly planning a seismic overhaul of Bottom Dollar Publications.

Jake Johnson on What Led to That Shocking Decision in ‘Minx’ Season 2 Finale
Image
[This story contains spoilers from the season two finale of Minx, “Woman of the Hour.”]

In Minx‘s season two finale, the Bottom Dollar gang reunites to hit back at Constance Papadopoulos’ takeover, which has not only reshaped the magazine (titled “Minx”) but slowly revealed itself as more hostile than (almost) anyone realized.

While much of the group catches on in the finale, Doug (Jake Johnson) was the first to see Constance’s (Elizabeth Perkins) moves for what they were, bringing the evidence to Tina (Idara Victor) in the season’s penultimate episode while she was on a cabin-in-the-woods retreat with Joyce (Ophelia Lovibond) finding new women to join the Minx staff.

But the magazine’s international operations — promised to Doug by Joyce — were handed to Tina by Constance. Earlier in the season, Tina also turned down Doug’s marriage proposal after they both attended her family dinner, where Doug discovered she never told her family they were dating. As a result,...

Realizing the limitations Constance was putting on the content Joyce and her team create, they made a bold choice to run a Richie’s (Oscar Montoya) bathhouse shoot, knowing they’d all likely be fired for their actions. ‘Minx’ Stars Idara Victor, Oscar Montoya on Tina and Richie Finding Themselves and Solidarity in Season 2
Image
[The following story includes spoilers for Minx season two.]

In the second season of Minx, Idara Victor’s Tina and Oscar Montoya’s Richie have not only gotten expanded storylines but also a tighter relationship.

It’s a noticeable screen time pivot for the duo, who frequently found themselves on opposite sides of the Bottom Dollar coin during the show’s first season. That hasn’t quite changed in season two, but as Joyce (Ophelia Lovibond) and Doug (Jake Johnson) seemingly move farther apart with the presence of Minx‘s new wealthy investor Constance Papadopoulos (Elizabeth Perkins), the business-minded Tina and artistic-minded Richie have come to find solace in one another amid the chaos.

And much in line with the second season’s theme of “getting bigger” and “going harder,” in the first six episodes of the Starz show’s second run, viewers have been given substantial looks at both Oscar and Tina’s home lives,...

‘Minx’ Star Ophelia Lovibond on the New Joyce-Doug Hierarchy and Second Wave Feminism in Season 2
Image
[This story contains spoilers from Minx season two, episode four: “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Sexiness.”]

In Minx‘s second season, Ophelia Lovibond’s Joyce Prigger is finally wearing the pants when it comes to control over the magazine’s business and creative content decisions.

Her reunion with Jake Johnson’s publisher Doug Renetti — after his ego let her walk away from the magazine last season — has resulted in a new hierarchy at the publication (titled “Minx”). One where the magazine has returned better than ever, but with the financial backing of Elizabeth Perkins’ Constance Papadopoulos, a billionaire shipping magnate who has sparred with men for control in her own life.

And she has given Joyce majority control, allowing Minx’s co-founder and concept creator to finally envision the magazine how she wants — with fewer compromises.

“I think she’s enjoying the power and being able to pack her opinions with a punch,” Lovibond...

Doug Stays Sleazy in Season 2 of ‘Minx’ — Just in More ‘Diamonds and Silk’
Image
Before indie sleaze, there was porno chic. And if Apple TV+’s recent “City on Fire” brought back to life the fashions and music of the early oughts’ indie sleaze heyday, then Starz’s “Minx” absolutely owns porno chic, down to the last unbuttoned button.

Set during the ‘70s as indefatigable feminist Joyce (Ophelia Lovibond) reluctantly teams up with porn publisher Doug Renetti to transform her The Matriarchy Awakens magazine pitch into Minx, a porn magazine for women filled with both feminist theory and schwanzes, the show initially premiered on HBO Max before moving to Starz as a result of the streamer’s content purge. Never mind the new home, though, Ellen Rapaport’s silly, sexy, and serious comedy remains as solidly built as before even as the characters experience radical growth in its sophomore season.

Much of it is spurred by the arrival in the season premiere of Elizabeth Perkins’ caftan and turban-clad Constance,...

Minx: Season Two; Jake Johnson Talks Max's ‘Gross’ Cancelation and Move to Starz
Season two of Minx is currently airing on Starz, and Jake Johnson recently spoke about how the cable channel saved the series following HBO Max's abrupt cancellation in December. Starz, a channel that had dropped some of its own shows, picked up the Minx series in January.

Starring Johnson, Ophelia Lovibond, Idara Victor, Jessica Lowe, Lennon Parham, Michael Angarano, and Oscar Montoya, Minx follows the creation of the first erotic magazine for women.

‘Minx’ Cast Says HBO Max Axing Was a ‘Blessing in Disguise’ – But It Still Reflects a ‘Stressful’ Time in TV
Image
When it was first announced that “Minx” would not be returning to HBO Max, it was certainly a “rug pull” for the sex-positive dramedy’s cast and creators. But it wasn’t long before that “sad shock” led to a rebirth at Starz.

“It’s actually kind of an honor because we felt the response from the crowd right away, and we felt the anger from people,” Jake Johnson, who plays porn distributor Doug Renetti, told TheWrap in an interview conducted prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike.

The team quickly learned three streamers were bidding on the series after its cancellation at HBO Max. Suddenly, the outrage and shock around their series’ abrupt ending became something far more positive.

“Having that kind of response from the public was just so encouraging,” Ophelia Lovibond, who plays feminist editor-in-chief Joyce Prigger, said. “To get that while we were still shooting gave everyone...

‘Minx’ Season 2 Loses a Bit of Its Mojo
Image
During a star-studded promotional screening of “Deep Throat,” Joan Didion shares a prescient observation. She doesn’t want to — at least, not in that moment. All she wants is to enjoy the lavish party put on to promote Minx magazine. Check that: All she really wants is to be left in peace to use the restroom, but Joyce Prigger (Ophelia Lovibond), the editor-in-chief of Minx, can’t contain her giddy inquiries long enough for the acclaimed journalist to relieve her bladder. Joyce wants Joan to write for the magazine; something about “Deep Throat” and what it reflects about the shifting ‘70s culture, if not society at large. Joan isn’t all that interested, and instead encourages Joyce to pen the piece herself — but not before offering her reluctant, rushed assessment of the landmark porno being screened in the adjacent auditorium. “I don’t think it was their intent,” Joan says,...

Minx Cast: Cancellation Backlash ‘Felt Really Good’ — Watch Video
Image
Minx‘s tortuous path to Season 2 might’ve been a nail-biter for the fans — HBO Max renewed the comedy in May 2022, then cancelled it that December — but Starz’s quick decision to keep the show going meant that the cast knew fairly soon that Bottom Dollar Production’s doors would stay open.

And as a bonus, Ophelia Lovibond and Jake Johnson point out in the video above, the outcry meant everyone involved in making the show had a really good sense that people were watching.

Minx Season Two Review: The Titillating Comedy Still Rises to the Occasion
Image
How groovy is the tagline for season two of Minx: “Getting bigger, going harder.” The show delivers on that front, and then some. Between the addition of Elizabeth Perkins (The Afterparty) as a wealthy investor and several effective story arcs about sex, sexuality, power plays, feminism, and schlong tennis — you just have to watch for yourself — Minx is as creatively fertile as ever. Thanks to Starz.

The fetching series was dropped by HBO after already being picked up for a second season by the cable powerhouse, a move that star Jake Johnson recently called “f***king gross.” Thankfully, Starz scooped up the inventive 1970s comedy about an earnest feminist, Joyce (Ophelia Lovibond of Guardians of the Galaxy), who joins forces with a shady publisher, Doug (played by Johnson) to give birth to the first erotic magazine for women.

In season two, Doug, Joyce, and the entire Bottom Dollar crew...

Jake Johnson Blasts Max's 'F---ing Gross' Removal of Minx
Image
When Minx premiered on HBO Max in March 2022, it opened to positive reviews. A month after its release, the series earned a second season renewal. All was well and on schedule, until December, when the series was abruptly canceled in a cost-cutting move stemming from the WarnerMedia and Discovery Merger. When the news hit, filming for the series' sophomore season was well underway. Cancelation of Minx came as a bit of a shock considering the positive feedback the first season had received. Jake Johnson, who stars in and co-executive produces the series, opened up about learning of the show's cancelation in a recent conversation with The Hollywood Reporter.

"I found out with everybody else when the news broke. It was more of an existential hit, for me. It wasn’t creative or personal. It was just a huge corporation doing a snaky numbers move. The more these people keep pushing,...

"F*cking Gross": Jake Johnson Reacts To Max Pulling His Show In Controversial Content Purge
Image
Jake Johnson opens up about Max's controversial content purge, which led to the cancelation of Minx, calling it "f--king gross." The raunchy comedy has since been rescued by Starz, which will premiere Minx season 2 on Friday, July 21. The upcoming eight-episode installment was likely helped by the fact that the show is produced by Lionsgate Television. Given that Lionsgate is the owner of Starz, and Minx season 2 was already largely completed by the time it had been canceled and removed by Max, it was a natural fit.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about Minx's removal and Starz revival, Johnson doesn't hold back. Also a producer on the series, Johnson says that he learned about the cancelation right as everyone else did. In his quote, which is included below, the New Girl alum doesn't mince words and explains why he views the content purge as "f--king gross":

"I found out...

‘Minx’ Nsfw Trailer Strips Down for the Once-Axed Series’ Return on Starz — Watch
Image
“Minx” is about to get freaky with it.

Season 2 of the hit workplace comedy debuts on Starz after a network switcheroo from then-hbo Max. Critically acclaimed “Minx” was canceled by now-Max after wrapping production on Season 2 late last year, with Starz later acquiring the Lionsgate-produced series.

Ophelia Lovibond is back as Minx Magazine founder Joyce, along with her publisher Doug, played by Jake Johnson. “Minx,” set in 1970s LA, centers around Joyce, an earnest young feminist who joins forces with a low-rent publisher to create the first erotic magazine for women. In Season 2, per the official synopsis, Doug, Joyce, and the entire Bottom Dollar crew grapple with Minx’s explosive success, which takes them all to thrilling new places and brings more money, fame and temptation than anyone knows how to handle.

In honor of National Nude Day on July 14, Starz revealed a Nsfw Red Band trailer for the new season,...

Critically-Acclaimed Show Minx Prepares To Air Season 2 On Its New Starz Home
Image
The premiere of Minx season 2 is nigh, and the clever comedy is celebrating its new home on Starz. Set in the 1970s, Minx follows Joyce Prigger (Ophelia Lovibond) and Doug Renetti (Jake Johnson) in their quest to create the first porn magazine for women in Los Angeles. The series also stars Idara Victor as Tina, Jessica Lowe as Bambi, Lennon Parham as Shelly, and Oscar Montoya as Richie — with the iconic Elizabeth Perkins joining season 2 as Constance.

Despite the wave of critical acclaim and early renewal, HBO Max canceled Minx while it was in the middle of filming season 2. Luckily, production on the new episodes continued, which allowed the socially conscious and devilishly humorous series to be rescued by Starz. The new season will release on the Starz app on July 21 at midnight, followed by the premiere of the first episode on the Starz channel at 9pm.

How ‘Minx’ Was Saved From Becoming “Filmsturbation” in Wild West Era of Streaming
Image
Last December, with just a week left of filming on Minx season two, the cast of the prestige period comedy about low-rent porn publisher Bottom Dollar and its launch of a fictional (and feminist) Playgirl-esque magazine, got news no one was expecting. They were canceled.

“Our show creator [Ellen Rapoport] kindly called us and said, ‘This is a bad phone call,’ and she relayed the news,” says Minx actress Jessica Lowe, who plays Bambi on the series. It was a moment that Minx star and co-executive producer Jake Johnson adds left the cast “all very shocked.”

“It was bananas because it happened at a time when we were on all of these year-end best lists,” recalls star Lennon Parham, who plays Shelly, the sister of Minx co-founder Joyce Prigger. “So everybody was just confused. I thought we were in the business of making great television, and we are universally in...
