Be warned, for those who haven't seen 2012's Chronicle yet, there will be spoilers contained within.
Back in July, Chronicle screenwriter Max Landis revealed that he is no longer attached to write the sequel, Chronicle 2, and that director Josh Trank was no longer involved as well. Today, the writer revealed that his script would have shown fans what the source of Matt, (Alex Russell), Andrew (Dane DeHaan) and Steve's (Michael B. Jordan) superpowers really was. Here's how he described the superpower source, known as Massive Organic Geoelectric Objects (Mogo), in a recent interview.
"(They are) a race of crystalline organisms that communicate and propel themselves through radio waves, and turn higher life forms into telekinetic drones."
He also briefly described the plot of his very dark sequel script that was rejected by 20th Century Fox.
"Two embittered souls as antiheroes trying to catch the survivor of the first film."

In April, Chronicle writer/creator Max Landis shot down rumors that 20th Century Fox was unhappy with his script ideas for the sequel Chronicle 2, which was originally on the fast track after Chronicle proved to be a success at the box office. Apparently, the studio wanted something that was identical to the first movie, while Landis wanted to take the material in a new, different direction.
Here, in his original statement, the writer claims this wasn't true and that his dad, legendary director John Landis (The Blues Brothers; Animal House) had stirred up these rumors.
"Chronicle 2 is in an interesting place right now. It's moving along. There was this whole announcement that they wanted to just do the same thing again because my father said that. My father is not involved in Chronicle 2. He doesn't know the process. It was not his place to say that. The...

Director Josh Trank discusses his found footage movie Chronicle, which debuts on Blu-ray and DVD May 15
Josh Trank is a filmmaker who certainly has a bright future ahead of him, after his impressive directorial debut Chronicle. The 27-year-old cut his teeth as a co-producer of Big Fan, and he wrote and directed several episodes of The Kill Point before his big break with Chronicle, a movie that manages to look and feel like it cost a lot more than it actually did. Chronicle arrives on Blu-ray and DVD May 15, and I recently had the chance to speak with Josh Trank over the phone.
Here's what he had to say below.
I was actually at the Fox presentation on the lot, where you showed us some of the footage, and that awesome short film you made. I was hoping to see it on the Blu-ray or DVD, but it doesn't seem to be on there.

Chicago – “Chronicle,” which stars blah, blah and blah with a special appearance by blah (you wouldn’t know these unknowns any way), is the latest found-footage film to find itself lost, lacking purpose and devoid of a cohesive plot. This film’s fanboy ejaculate loves you short time as it spews the buildup of what could be interpreted as a “story” and ultimately ends without one.
Rating: 2.0/5.0
We can forgivingly leave to moviemaking mystery how a few kids develop superhero telekinesis from a weakly scripted, inexplicable, underground rock formation from which our story never returns to explore. But we cannot excuse a story that lacks a true protagonist, antagonist and an overall plot in exchange for three kids simply running around aimlessly and experimenting with their newfound power.
Even if you enjoy this special-effects joyride with a cast of new actors you won’t know, you’ll be hard pressed...

The found footage genre has had its ups and downs since The Blair Witch Project became a national phenomena back in 1999. While most of these films are planted within the horror world, 20th Century Fox's Chronicle throws the whole genre for a loop by putting a supernatural spin on things. The story centers on three Seattle teenagers (Alex Russell, Dane DeHaan, and Michael B. Jordan), who make an incredible discovery outside a party, and emerge with amazing new abilites. I was able to speak with Alex Russell, Dane DeHaan, Michael B. Jordan, and director Josh Trank about Chronicle, which debuts in theaters nationwide February 3. Click on the video players below to see what they had to say.
