Kim Cattrall’s Most Promising Sex & The City Replacement Released On Netflix Last Year (But There’s A Catch)
Image
Glamorous was a potential hit for Sex and the City fans, but got canceled after one season due to low ratings and critical reception. Kim Cattrall's return as Samantha Jones in the Sex and the City reboot is still uncertain, despite having a more open schedule now. Cattrall has kept herself busy with various TV roles, but her stance on returning to Sex and the City projects remains rocky.

Even after 20 years, Kim Cattrall is still best known for Sex and the City, though she had the perfect replacement show on Netflix in 2023. The 67-year-old actress portrayed Samantha Jones on the classic HBO series and its subsequent films for over a decade, yet she's been one of the few stars not to return to the cast for And Just Like That, the Sex and the City reboot show. Still, Cattrall has kept busy with various TV roles over the past decade.

Netflix's 5 New TV Show Cancellations Double Down On A Massive Subscriber Complaint
Image
Netflix has recently canceled five original TV shows, including two live-action and three animated shows, sparking complaints from subscribers. Most of the canceled shows only made it to one season, which has been a consistent trend with Netflix's cancellations. The streaming service may be risking the potential growth of its shows by canceling them too soon, as many successful TV series took time to find their footing in later seasons.

Netflix has canceled a grand total of five original TV shows in one fell swoop, and it doubles down on one of the biggest complaints from the streaming service’s subscriber base. The streamer has canceled two live-action shows, Glamorous and Shadow and Bone, as well as three animated shows: Agent Elvis, Farzar, and Captain Fall. Shadow and Bone is a fantasy series based on the Y.A. books by Leigh Bardugo; it made it to two seasons before being canceled ahead of a third.

Shadow & Bone, Glamorous, Three More Canceled at Netflix
Ben Barnes, Archie Renaux, and Jessie Mei Li in Shadow and Bone (2021)
When the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes got underway earlier this year, many Netflix shows were left with fates up in the air.

Now that the strikes are over and Hollywood is getting back to normal, the series won't be making the cut for additional seasons are being revealed.

Deadline revealed Wednesday that Shadow & Bone, Glamorous, Agent Elvis, Farzar, and Captain Fall will not be returning.

Shadow & Bone is the highest profile of the five shows, having made it to a second season.

Despite the freshman season garnering considerable buzz, Shadow & Bone Season 2 launched earlier this year to little fanfare.

Based on the Grishaverse books by Leigh Bardugo, Shadow and Bone Season 2 follows Alina Starkov, who is now on the run.

The series stars Jessie Mei Li (Alina Starkov), Archie Renaux (Malyen Oretsev), Freddy Carter (Kaz Brekker), Amita Suman (Inej Ghafa), Kit Young (Jesper Fahey), Danielle Galligan (Nina Zenik...

Jodie Sweetin ‘Surprised to Learn’ and ‘Disappointed’ That Upcoming Film Was Sold to Great American Family
Image
Jodie Sweetin expresses disappointment upon learning that her movie was sold to Great American Family, a network known for its traditional marriage stance. Sweetin, a vocal LGBTQ+ advocate, plans to donate any money made from the film sale to LGBTQ+ organizations. Candace Cameron Bure denies accusations of homophobia on the set of Fuller House and states her inclusivity in welcoming a range of characters on the show.

Jodie Sweetin was surprised to learn that one of her upcoming movies, which wrapped filming over a year ago, has landed at Great American Family. The network came under fire last year after Candace Cameron Bure, their Chief Creative Officer and Sweetin's Fuller House co-star, told the Wall Street Journal that the network would keep "traditional marriage at the core." She faced immediate backlash from celebrities like Jojo Siwa, Hilarie Burton, and Holly Robinson Peete. Sweetin, who began working with Cameron Bure on...

‘Glamorous’ Takes Marco from Makeup Vlogger to Full Nicole Kidman Bedazzled Pantsuit Professional
Image
For queer pop culture fanatics, Netflix’s “Glamorous” is the gift that keeps on giving.

Beyond the homages to everything from “9 to 5” and “Clue” (including a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it reference to Jade’s infamous Cover Girl commercial on “America’s Next Top Model”) and an early aughts party so dead-on it will induce vertigo in viewers of a certain age, there’s also Miss Benny’s wardrobe as assistant Marco, newly hired at Glamorous by Madolyn as Madolyn Addison’s assistant. (Even the name of Kim Cattrall’s character feels like a reference to Meryl Streep’s Madeline Ashton in gay cult classic “Death Becomes Her.”)

A gender-nonconforming queer man, Marco begins as a struggling makeup vlogger and ends in full glam, complete with a twinkling pantsuit straight from the Nicole Kidman for AMC collection. For a show that lives up to its name and for a non-binary character, the fits...

Candace Cameron Bure Shuts Down Allegation She Tried to Get Fuller House Co-Star Fired
Miss Benny
Glamorous star Miss Benny took to TikTok this week to open up about her time working on Netflix's Fuller House, and it sounds like it wasn't the best experience.

Miss Benny played Casey in two episodes of the Full House revival as Casey, a friend of Kimmy's daughter, Ramona.

"One of the Tanner sisters is, like, very publicly not for the girls, if that makes sense," Miss Benny shared on the social media platform, recalling that the cast member tried to get her character removed.

While Miss Benny never mentions Candace Cameron Bure by name, the actress' name was hashtagged in the video.

"I remember I got sat down by the writers and the studio to basically warn me how this person allegedly was trying to get the character removed and not have a queer character on the show."

Miss Benny said that there were conversations to nix the...

Candace Cameron Bure Denies Claim of 'Homophobia' on Fuller House
Image
A claim that Candace Cameron Bure had a queer character written out of Fuller House has prompted a response from the actress herself. After appearing in the original Full House show as a former child star, Bure returned as one of the leads in Netflix's sequel series Fuller House. Debuting in 2016, the show was a success, spanning five seasons before wrapping up in 2020.

In the show's fourth season, Miss Benny (Glamorous) played the role of Casey. This was the first openly queer character that's appeared in either Full House or Fuller House, though the role was limited to two episodes. Per People, Miss Benny insinuates in a new TikTok video that Bure had been "homophobic" on the set of Fuller House, allegedly going so far as to have the writers remove Casey from the series. Miss Benny, who has since come out as transgender, didn't mention Bure by name,...

Fuller House Star Allegedly Tried To Remove First Gay Character, Candace Cameron Bure Responds
Image
Miss Benny claims someone from the Fuller House main cast tried getting her character removed, but Candace Cameron-Bure denies the accusation. Playing performer Casey, Miss Benny's role was Kimmy's first high school intern. The character had a lot of potential, but after a couple of Fuller House episodes, Casey was never seen again in the Full House spinoff. In addition, Casey was the first openly-gay player in the Fuller House.

Taking it to her official TikTok, Miss Benny recalls her time in Fuller House and reveals that one of the main cast members tried having her role axed. Despite not dropping names in her video, Cameron-Bure releases a statement to Entertainment Tonight denying the claims. Read both of their quotes below:

Candace Cameron Bure Denies Trying to Have Miss Benny’s Gay Fuller House Character Written Out

In a TikTok video posted on Thursday, Glamorous star Miss Benny alleged that Fuller House co-star Candace Cameron Bure tried to have their character Casey — who was gay and served as Ramona’s (Soni Bringas) platonic prom date in Season 4 Episode 12 — written out of the Netflix sitcom.

Bure, who starred in all five seasons of Fuller House as DJ Tanner, however has denied Miss Benny’s accusation.

Netflix’s Glamorous Drops Two Uplifting Tracks By Joy Ngiaw [Exclusive]
Image
Netflix’s Glamorous is an engaging dramatic comedy series that may feel inspired by films like The Devil Wears Prada but ultimately stands on its own. The 10-episode series stars Miss Benny as Marco Mejia, a young gender-nonconforming queer man who lands a job at a prestigious makeup company run by Kim Cattrall’s Madolyn Addison. Although a Glamorous season 2 has not yet been confirmed, the first season implied there is much story left to tell.

Music for Glamorous was written by Malaysian composer Joy Ngiaw, who is known in part for her work on the Skydance Animation short film Blush and the Netflix movie Rescued by Ruby. Ngiaw also scored the first-ever Skydance Animation studio logo, and was the youngest composer ever to define the sound of a film studio in such a way. Kim Cattrall Seizes the Spotlight in Netflix’s Delightful, Glossy ‘Glamorous’: TV Review
Image
Every generation gets the aspirational workplace it deserves. In 2006, “The Devil Wears Prada” helped establish the archetype of an imperious, intimidating woman who rules her chic urban office with an iron fist; with its obvious Anna Wintour analog, the book-turned-film also doubled as a bookend to the era of the print magazine editor’s omnipotence. Eight years later, Sophia Amoruso coined the term “Girlboss,” a cutesy moniker that soon got a Netflix adaptation to match. Latter-day examples have updated the template to keep pace with the times: “Younger” took place in the wake of the Great Recession, when securing a dream job requires some deceit, while “The Bold Type” was proudly progressive — think 2010s Cosmo, not mid-aughts Vogue. In these stories, actual employment is less secure, but the employer acts less like a dictator than a stern, if nurturing, mentor.

Now, there’s “Glamorous,” the new Netflix show that casts...

Kim Cattrall and Miss Benny in Glamorous (2023)
‘Glamorous’ (2023) Series on Netflix
Kim Cattrall and Miss Benny in Glamorous (2023)
Glamorous is a Netflix series produced by CBS and created by Jordon Nardino. Starring Kim Cattrall (Sex and the City) and featuring breakthrough actor Miss Benny in a hilarious role, the series draws inspiration from The Devil Wears Prada, but with a more benevolent character. Although the show meets expectations, they are not particularly high.

The plot follows Marco, an aspiring influencer who lands a dream job with a makeup mogul. He embarks on a dazzling journey of self-discovery amidst the chaos of his work and romantic challenges.

While the show is an entertaining, glamorous comedy, it is more intriguing for its concept than its execution. As the series progresses, the comedy overshadows the plot, leaving it somewhat superficial. The acting is more convincing than the characters themselves, and the actors’ performances are more impactful than their dialogue. The series is too focused on being “glamorous” and not enough on delivering a compelling story.

Kim Cattrall’s ‘Glamorous’ Co-Star Miss Benny Says Sharing Premiere Day With ‘And Just Like That’ Is a ‘Spectacle’: ‘That Is the Gay Stuff That I Love’
Image
As if Pride Month couldn’t get any gayer, “And Just Like That” Season 2 and Kim Cattrall’s new Netflix series, “Glamorous,” are premiering on the same day, June 22. “Isn’t that incredible?” says Cattrall’s co-star, actor and musician Miss Benny. “That is the gay stuff that I love. I’m excited for our show. I’m excited for that show. I’m excited for the spectacle of it all.”

In “Glamorous,” Miss Benny plays Marco, a gender-nonconforming wannabe influencer who lands a job working for a beauty mogul (Cattrall). Miss Benny says Cattrall signed on to “Glamorous” after watching a clip of them playing a “sexual, raunchy and queer” character on “American Horror Stories.” “That blows my mind because I did that whole part saying, ‘What if I do it with a little bit of Samantha?’” they say. “I mimic her portrayal of Samantha a lot in my campier work.

Miss Benny on Bringing a Fabulous Gender-Nonconforming Character to Life on Netflix’s ‘Glamorous’
Image
In early development, Marco Mejia, the gender-nonconforming queer character at the heart of the new series Glamorous — set inside the world of the makeup business — was conceived as a much younger character.

“Literally, Marco was in high school,” recalls Miss Benny, who plays him on the show, which debuts June 22. But over the four years that the actor (and former YouTube star) was attached to the project, “It got retooled and written so many times and is at a different network [Netflix] — and now Marco’s just like, an out-and-proud-living homosexual,” says the L.A.-based actor, 24, who grew up in Denton, Texas, and has had roles on Fuller House; Love, Victor; and American Horror Story. “When we shot the pilot, I had to shave like three times a day to somehow look like I was 17. And this time, they were like, ‘No, you can just be you.'”

‘Glamorous’ Trailer: Kim Cattrall Gets Her ‘Devil Wears Prada’ Moment in Netflix Queer Comedy Series

Netflix’s upcoming series “Glamorous” is like “The Devil Wears Prada” if Meryl Streep were replaced by “Sex and the City’s” Kim Cattrall and instead of Anne Hathaway, she hired drag queens and non-binary actor Miss Benny to work for her. “She wants him to be her eyes and ears, to make friends — and find out what’s going on behind her back, to discover what they’re hiding and what they’re stealing. In exchange, she’ll teach Marco everything she knows – but she warns him, ‘This business isn’t all glitter and glamour,...
