10 Most Sinister X-Men '97 Villains (So Far)
Image
The following contains major spoilers from X-Men '97 Season 1, Episode 10, "Tolerance Is Extinction - Part 3," now streaming on Disney+.

Season 1 of X-Men '97 ended a truly turbulent journey for the merry mutants. The breakneck pace saw a multitude of heroes and villains (old and new) enter the fray as the war against mutants continued. It culminated in the genocide at Genosha, where many mutants were mercilessly murdered.

More than anything, X-Men '97 felt like Avengers: Infinity War. Heroes were broken episode after episode, leaving viewers wondering if they could ever rebound. With that in mind, these are among the most sinister villains that debuted in X-Men '97 Season 1 to push anti-mutant sentiment in the bloodiest manner possible.

X-Men: The Animated Series ran on Fox, as part of the Fox Kids programming block, for five seasons and a total of 76 episodes from October 31, 1992 to September 20, 1997. With that date swiftly approaching, a new promo for X-Men ’97 has arrived online with the promise that this show is going to be “like old times.” You can check it out in the embed at the bottom of this article.

X-Men ’97 episode titles may have been revealed
Image
Mutants are gradually being worked into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and according to Cosmic Circus, the site that says the Midnight Sons might soon be appearing in the MCU, Marvel is looking at X-Men: The Animated Series, which ran on Fox Kids Network for five seasons from 1992 to 1997, as a major reference point as they figure out how to add the X-Men to their franchise. As Cosmic Circus noted, the influence of the animated series can be seen in the appearances of Charles Xavier in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Dr. Hank McCoy in The Marvels – as well as (to some degree) Wolverine in next year’s Deadpool 3. Since Marvel has such respect for the animated series, it’s no surprise that they’re also reviving it with a continuation series titled X-Men ’97, which is expected to start streaming on Disney+ sometime soon. We don...

A Comic to Benefit Striking Writers, Actors Is Coming from Indie Publisher Black Mask (Exclusive)
Image
The writers and actors strike is getting a boost from the comics world and a new superhero named General Strike.

Indie publisher Black Mask Studios, run by Matteo Pizzolo, is putting together a comics anthology that will be written by WGA members with the company matching the writers’ fees with donations to the safety net organization Entertainment Community Fund.

The announcement comes as the writers strike hits its 100th day. No new contract talks are scheduled to begin any time soon.

Titled General Stike: Calexit and Other Tales of Fighting the Good Fight, the collection of new stories has the theme of confronting economic inequality and, like any good superhero story, featuring new characters fighting the good fight against injustice. A bubblegum-chewing, labor-organizing character named General Strike will act as the host of the comic, threading the stories together.

The book is in pre-launch mode on Kickstarter now, with an official launch set for Aug.

Casting John Wayne In Red River Saved Howard Hawks From A Behind-The-Scenes Crisis
Image
By 1948, Howard Hawks had made just about every type of film over his then 22-year career when he decided to take on the most American of movie genres: the Western. Though he'd made plenty of films about rough and/or ruthless men, the closest he'd come to making a true oater was with 1934's "Barbary Coast," which plays like more of a period crime film set in mid-1850s San Francisco. "Red River," written by Borden Chase and Charles Schnee (based on Chase's serialized novel "The Chisholm Trail"), would be the real deal.

And it almost fell apart before Hawks shot a frame of film.

While the story about Tom Dunson, a determined rancher who turns into a horse-riding Captain Ahab during a harrowing cattle drive from Texas to Missouri, was crammed with action and intrigue, it proved tonally problematic for Hawks' star. Gary Cooper had made several films with...

Everyone Is Making the Same ‘Simpsons’ Joke About Liam Neeson’s New Movie ‘Hard Powder’
Liam Neeson
Is Liam Neeson’s new movie, “Hard Powder” where he plays a snowplow driver seeking revenge, the gritty reboot of Homer Simpson’s Mr. Plow we never knew we needed?
