Film Review: Wishing Stairs (2003) by Yun Jae-yeon
Image
Upon its release in 1998, the Korean ghost film “Whispering Corridors” proved to be immensely successful in part with its release at the forefront of the J-Horror Movement. Appearing as a contemporary of celebrated titles “Ringu” and “Ju-On” among numerous others, it helped to spawn a franchise. “Memento Mori” arrived one year later and then this third entry a couple of years later. Helmed by first-time director Yun Jae-yeon and feeling very much like a retread of the material the genre was producing elsewhere around the world, that does strike this one down slightly even with its celebrated positives.

Image

The original Korean title is actually Dominant Species, but had to drop that for the English title. Bf, a bio-technology company that started the era of artificially cultured meat, dominates the market, and people who doubt the Bf CEO's actions begin to appear one after another, both inside & outside. The series tells of a world of superior genes & viruses where all food is consumed in the form of a pill. Following those who harbor suspicions on the whereabouts of the CEO of Bf,...

‘Gangnam Zombie’ Review – South Korean Horror Movie Lacks Bite
Image
Gangnam Zombie is the latest single-location horror flick about the walking dead. The gravely serious opening sequence, which is a preview of what’s to come for these sudden survivalists, doesn’t quite convey the movie’s overall tone, though. As a whole, zombie apocalypses tend to mean serious business, but here you should expect to see more silliness than unadulterated thrills.

It’s Christmas Eve when an office building in the Gangnam District of Seoul becomes a festering zombie hotspot. Yet before the flesh-eaters even show up, this cast of unlucky characters is fighting to stay alive in a post-Pandemic world. In fact, the trouble begins when two crooks hope to find something valuable inside a shipping container from China. Instead they discover a feline stowaway whose bites turn one of the criminals into patient zero. As things tend to go in these kinds of movies, the infection spreads and chaos ensues.

Lost: Who Is Kevin Johnson?
Image
There are many mysteries on the 2000s drama Lost, and Kevin Johnson's identity is one of the biggest and most compelling questions. After Oceanic Flight 815 crashes, the survivors are stunned to find themselves on an island, and they form alliances and take care of one another while flashbacks reveal who they were before. There are several curious puzzles on the island, from the fact that John Locke can walk after years of using a wheelchair to the purpose of the Dharma Initiative. The only thing that's clear is that this isn't a place that can be easily summed up.

While there are questions like who the polar bears are on Lost, the show also hides identities. For instance, in Lost season 1, the survivors hear "The French Woman" via radio signal and later learn she is Danielle Rosseau. Lost brilliantly crafts a mystery surrounding who Kevin Johnson is, and as...
