For the first time, as cited via Radio Times, both Myles and Creevy — as business owner Fran and her employee Ria, respectively — can be seen in the upcoming The Guest in a trio of first-look images available below. The series, scheduled for release later this year, is the brainchild of multi-award-winning writer Matthew Barry, best known for his work on the likes of Men Up,...

‘Three Women’ EPs Say Having All Female Directors and DPs Added a ‘Sense of Safety’ on Set | How She Did It
Image
“Three Women” executive producers Lisa Taddeo and Laura Eason want to make it clear that their Starz limited series is not meant to capture the experiences of all women. But while they were making the drama, it was vital to them that the set of their intimate and emotional deep dive felt like a safe space for all women.

“Having all directors and DPs that were women I think just added a sense of safety and a shared experience and understanding as we were telling the story,” Eason said in a new installment of TheWrap’s How She Did It, presented by Starz. “Although women, of course, are not a monolith and everyone brought their own experiences and point of view, I think there was just a base level of safety and welcoming everyone’s point of view and perspective that really added to the collaboration.”

‘Three Women’ showrunner Laura Eason talks courage, desire, and ‘superhero’ intimacy coordinators
Image
"There were many people that wanted to adapt the book," says Three Women showrunner Laura Eason, who collaborated closely with the novel's author, Lisa Taddeo, to bring the 2019 bestseller to the screen. "When they put a list of possible showrunners together, I luckily was on the shortlist. When Lisa and I met, we just clicked and luckily she chose me to be her partner. I came to that meeting having read the book, already being obsessed with it, and when I got the call I felt so fortunate to get that opportunity."

The Starz limited series is an intimate, moving, and uplifting portrait of real women reclaiming their lives. Based on true stories, Shailene Woodley stars as Gia, a writer who sets out to tell chronicle the lives of Lina (Betty Gilpin), Sloane (DeWanda Wise), and Maggie (Gabrielle Creevy).

Adapting a beloved book presents unique challenges, notes Eason. "You want to honor the material,...

‘Black Doves’ Creator on What That Final Glance From Keira Knightley Meant and Season 2 Plans
Image
[This story contains spoilers from the season one finale of Black Doves.]

Upon its early December release, Joe Barton‘s spy thriller Black Doves soared into Netflix’s top 10 most-watched shows in 89 countries.

Starring Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw, the series has already been renewed for a season two. It was a bloody and brutal season finale — we’d expect nothing less — where everyone (metaphorically and literally) lost their head a little.

In Black Doves, Knightley stars as Helen Webb, wife to the U.K.’s defense secretary Wallace and ascending government minister (Andrew Buchan). For years, she’d been passing her husband’s secrets on to a shadowy organization Helen works for (helmed by Sarah Lancashire’s Mrs Reed), which leaves her hard-pressed to explain where she’s been and what she’s been up to when returning home to her family after a hard day’s work.

All of a sudden, the death of Helen’s secret lover...

'Black Doves' Creator Offers First Season 2 Plot Details
Image
Unlike most Netflix shows, the spy thriller series Black Doves was immune from sudden cancelation from the get-go, having been renewed for Season 2 before the first outing was even released. Now that the series has debuted and hugely impressed both critics and audiences, creator Joe Barton has teased what we can expect from Black Doves Season 2 and the continuing adventures of Keira Knightley’s Helen Webb.

Speaking with Netflix Tudum recently, Barton teased the plot of Black Doves Season 2, revealing that he likes the idea of seeing Helen getting “pulled deeper into the world of spies having been so close to leaving.” As her husband, Wallace, edges closer to the top job as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, this inevitably “increases the pressure and the danger on her as a spy.”

“Just seeing the tension of that, seeing Sam back in London … I would like to see more Eleanor and Williams,...

10 Funniest Williams & Eleanor Moments In Black Doves, Ranked
Image
Williams (Elia Lily Hyland) and Eleanor (Gabrielle Creevy) were some of the funniest characters in Black Doves, and these 10 moments were their most hilarious. Though Black Doves is a show about assassins, spies, and international relations, it's also a Christmas show. As such, it had to have at least a bit of holiday joy and cheer, and it mostly accomplished that through its unique sense of humor. Black Doves' jokes and funny moments are a big reason it's one of the best shows on Netflix, and Eleanor and Williams are a big reason it was so humorous.

The cast of Black Doves was filled with funny characters who had great dynamics with each other, like Sam Young (Ben Whishaw) and Helen Webb (Keira Knightley). Williams and Eleanor, however, proved themselves to be the resident comedians of Netflix's spy thriller. Both Creevy and Hyland were tremendously cast as the oddball pair of assassins,...

Keira Knightley's 'Black Doves' Reaches #1 On Netflix Streaming Charts
Image
Black Doves was released earlier this month to rave reviews from both critics and audiences alike, and it is now rising up on Netflix's streaming charts. Starring Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw, the six-part spy thriller follows the former as a professional spy whose secret lover is assassinated and is now forced to team up with an old friend to keep her safe. Delivering "some of the most captivating storytelling in episodic television this year," Black Dove has been the must-watch binge on Netflix for the holiday season.

According to Flix Patrol, Black Doves has held the #1 spot on Netflix's TV charts for the past few days, beating out The Madness and La Brea. Partially inspired by true events, Black Doves blends the spy thriller genre that always does well on the streamer with the holiday season. The six-episode season takes place during Christmas, making the sweat-inducing story the...

Keira Knightley may be coming for Mariah Carey’s crown as the Queen of Christmas with her latest project, “Black Doves,” which dropped on Netflix this week. The London-based spy thriller opens with a merry Santa Claus singing in a pub and ends six episodes later on Christmas Day, cementing the actor’s repertoire of Yuletide projects, which include “Love, Actually,” “Silent Night” and “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms.”

In “Black Doves” Knightley plays politician’s wife and secret spy Helen, who works for a shadowy corporate organization called the Black Doves. But when Helen’s lover Jason (played by Andrew Koji) dies, she finds herself embroiled in an intricate geopolitical web that threatens to upend not only her own life but start World War III. ‘Black Doves’ Review: Netflix Spies Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw Make the Most of Blue Christmas
Image
In the second episode of “Black Doves,” a new spy series (this one on Netflix), the woman we’ve come to know as Helen Shaw (Keira Knightley) is seen in flashback interviewing for the job she’s now working. Well, kind of.

“Daisy” (her name at the time) answered an advertisement for a position as a translator, but as becomes clearer as her questions continues — sharing details about Helen’s personal history that no typical hiring manager should know — she’s not being asked to convert German to English. She’s being asked to decode identities, intuitions, and ideas. She’s being tested to see if she has the emotional capacity to hide in plain site, to react calmly to obvious provocations, and to get more out of the person sitting across from her than he gets from her. She’s being asked to become a spy.

But, quite notably,...

‘Black Doves’ Review: Keira Knightley Is Back in Action in Netflix’s Twisty Spy Series
Image
“Black Doves,” Netflix’s latest thriller series, has it all. The dialogue is both clever and funny. There’s lots of political intrigue and Keira Knightley hasn’t been this action star since “Domino.” The award-winning actor Ben Whishaw is awesome as usual and there is one (literally) bloody shocking twist after another.

The setting is London during the Christmas holidays where Helen (Knightley) is married to UK Secretary of Defense Wallace Webb (Andrew Buchan), the mother of adorable fraternal twins and unbeknownst to Wallace, a spy feeding much of what goes on at 10 Downing Street to secret intel group, Black Doves. Helen’s information has been “lucrative” according to her handler. As is the case with these types of plots, when something goes very wrong and threatens to expose Helen, her long-time ‘Dove’ conspirator Sam (Whishaw) is sent in to help.

Up until this upset, life on the surface...

Black Doves season 1 ending, explained, and how it sets up season 2
Image
The Black Doves season 1 finale, “In the Bleak Midwinter,” ties up all the loose storylines in a neat bow on top of a Christmas present.

After Sam (Ben Whishaw) is kidnapped by the Clarks at the end of episode 5, he wakes up in the same room as Kai-Min Chen (Isabella Wei) and Eleanor (Gabrielle Creevy). The Clarks are holding them hostage. Helen Webb (Keira Knightley) has a plan, though, because she’s seen the tape and knows what really happened!

Who killed the Chinese Ambassador?

On the tape that Jason Davies (Andrew Koji) hid for Helen Webb to find in the jewelry, it reveals that Trent Clark, the son and heir to the Clark family, who are basically shadow-controlling the British government, killed Ambassador Chen (Andy Cheung) on accident. He was at Kai-Ming’s apartment to bring her heroin, but the Chinse ambassador confronted Trent about supplying his daughter. In the scuffle,...

‘Black Doves’ Cast and Character Guide: Who’s Who in Netflix’s Spy Thriller?
Image
Keira Knightley trades the Black Pearl for the Black Doves in her new Netflix series, turning from pirate to spy.

The new series, now streaming on Netflix, is a thriller centered on Helen, a mother and devoted wife — who just so happens to also be a professional spy who’s been passing on secrets about her politician husband to her bosses. So, maybe not super devoted.

When her secret lover is assassinated, her spymaster, Helen’s old friend Sam — who is an assassin — is called in to keep her safe.

You’ll definitely recognize a lot of faces in this series, so we’ve rounded them up for you. Here’s a handy guide to the “Black Doves” cast.

‘Black Doves’ Review: Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw Shine in Netflix’s Darkly Festive Spy Thriller
Image
“I have a cheese grater in the dishwasher. I have a peeler. I have skewers. I have a kettle. I have a NutriBullet.”

These words are uttered by Helen (Keira Knightley), prim and proper wife of an ascending government minister (Andrew Buchan’s Wallace), to a houseguest in the second episode of Netflix’s new drama Black Doves.

Helen is more than just proud of her well-appointed kitchen, and her visitor is more than just a late-night caller. He’s an assassin, sent to kill her for … reasons. She’s a spy. Her list of available culinary implements is less bougie braggadocio and more a warning that behind her public image as a well-put-together spouse, mother and domestic goddess is a woman capable of turning the fruits of a Williams Sonoma shopping spree into instruments of torture.

It’s a great line and a great scene, in a six-episode series...

Netflix's spy thriller starring Keira Knightley, Black Doves, boasts an impressive cast of deeply talented British actors. Black Doves follows Helen Webb (Knightley), a member of the eponymous spy group based in London. Helen sells secrets she steals from her husband, Wallace (Andrew Buchan), but after her secret lover is killed, she goes on a quest for revenge. It's far from a typical holiday movie, but Black Doves used its star-studded cast to tremendous effect.

Black Doves debuted to a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and a large part of its critical success is due to its cast. Reviews for Black Doves have praised Keira Knightley in particular, but also stars like Sarah Lancashire and Ben Whishaw. Even the supporting cast of Black Doves contributed some stellar performances, and they all combined to create one of the best action shows on Netflix. Black Doves TV Review: Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw are spies at Christmas in new series

Plot: It follows Helen Webb, a quick-witted, down-to-earth, dedicated wife and mother — and professional spy. Three Women Season 1 Report Card: Dissecting The Emotional and Sexy Starz Drama
Image
If you’ve watched the Starz drama, you were probably blown away by how well showrunner Laura Eason adapted Lisa Taddeo’s novel. I love book-to-screen adaptations, and Three Women was one of the best I’ve watched.

While Shailene Woodley and Betty Gilpin headlined the series, DeWanda Wise and Gabrielle Creevy also gave powerful performances.

Since its beginning, Three Women has kept viewers engrossed with Lina, Sloane, Maggie, and Gia’s relationship journeys and sexual awakenings. This series features quality writing, impressive acting, and beautiful cinematography.

(Courtesy of Starz)

It was challenging to create this report card because so much of the season was well done. However, after careful consideration, I’m happy with these results.

Best Episode — “Three Women” — Three Women Season 1 Episode 1

While I enjoyed some of the centrics better, Three Women Season 1 Episode 1 laid a fantastic foundation and introduced us to all four complicated women.

John Patrick Amedori Compares His Three Women's Character To Wall-e
Image
Three Women follows three women who are all on different paths, allowing the series to deliver several different perspectives on life, love, and relationships. Lina is a decade into a passionless marriage when she embarks on an affair that quickly becomes all-consuming and transforms her life, while Sloane enjoys her committed open marriage with Richard (Blair Underwood) until two sexy new strangers threaten their aspirational love story. Maggie (Gabrielle Creevy), meanwhile, weathers an intense storm after accusing her married English teacher (Jason Ralph) of an inappropriate relationship.

John Patrick Amedori plays Jack, the love interest of Gia (Shailene Woodley). The character of Gia is based on real-life author of Three Women, Lisa Taddeo. Three Women is currently available to stream on Starz.

‘Three Women’s DeWanda Wise Talks Blair Underwood’s Sexual “Sixth Sense” & Explains Why Playing Sloane Never “Felt Free”
Image
As Three Women concludes its 10-episode run on Starz, DeWanda Wise is still unpacking her character Sloane’s emotionally-charged journey.

The actress, who stars in Lisa Taddeo‘s limited series adaptation of her 2019 book, explained to Deadline that despite the successful, sexually-active character’s seemingly liberated life of polyamorous adventure, Sloane “is everybody.”

“Nothing about Sloane felt free to me. And it’s interesting that people felt that way,” said Wise. “I think my intention going into the series was to peel back this layer of what we feel like we see on social media. At face value, you’re like, ‘This is really aspirational.’ But as the series goes on, you dive more into her life and see how she became who she became.”

Sloane and her husband Richard (played by Blair Underwood) convey the lives of a power couple with a happy family. But what most don’t...

Three Women Showrunner Laura Eason Explains How Real Life Crept Into The Starz Show & Made It Better
Image
Starz's Three Women follows characters on a crash course to radically overturn their lives.

Shailene Woodley (Big Little Lies) plays writer Gia Lombardi, who connects with all three women in order to tell their story even as she deals with her own grief. Showrunner Laura Eason adapted Lisa Taddeo's novel of the same name, working closely with the original author to ensure the authenticity of the stories. While changes inevitably had to be made, Three Women is a storytelling triumph and is now available to stream on Starz in its entirety.

‘Three Women’ Showrunner Says Surreal Ending Aims to Make Women Feel Like They’re ‘Not Alone’
Image
Note: The following story contains spoilers from “Three Women” Episode 10.

The final moments of “Three Women” are supposed to communicate a very specific idea: You are not alone.

Most of the Starz series follows Gia (Shailene Woodley) as she darts between her three interview subjects and her own complex relationship with love and sex. But in the series’ final moments, Sloane (DeWanda Wise), Lina (Betty Gilpin) and Maggie (Gabrielle Creevy) finally appear together on screen. One moment, a terrified Gia looks at her nurse as she waits to go into a Mri machine, a test that will determine whether or not she has lung cancer. The next, that nurse is replaced by these three complex women all in scrubs.

“She’s in this moment of crisis and distress, and all the women are there around her, comforting her,” showrunner and executive producer Laura Eason told TheWrap. “That is what the...

Three Women Intimacy Coordinator Claire Warden Addresses The Value Of Sex Scenes & Biggest Industry Misconceptions

Currently available to stream on Starz, Three Women is based on Lisa Taddeo's New York Times bestselling non-fiction book. The series follows Sloane, Lina, and Maggie as they explore their sexuality and discover what they want out of intimate relationships. Shailene Woodley's Gia is a writer who persuades the women to tell their stories and is loosely based on Taddeo, herself. In addition to Woodley, the main cast includes DeWanda Wise, Blair Underwood, Betty Gilpin, and Gabrielle Creevy.

Claire Warden is Three Women's intimacy coordinatora crucial role given the show's focus on female sexuality. Before taking on a behind-the-scenes position, Warden acted in projects such as Quantico, I Can I Will I Did, and High Maintenance. Shailene Woodley Went Through “Heavy Personal Transition” While Making ‘Three Women’
Image
Shailene Woodley latest role in Three Women required some emotional heavy lifting.

The 2x Golden Globe nominee recently opened up about her Starz drama, based on the Lisa Taddeo‘s book, and how she identified with the “emotional complexities” of playing writer Gia.

“I can relate to the micro-elements of all these characters, including Gia,” Woodley told Only Natural Diamonds. “One of the things that causes the most suffering in my life is this feeling of existential aloneness, which is different from loneliness. Three Women has become a pillar [for me] to feel less alone with my experiences and the emotional complexities of having a human heart. I hope it can offer the same thing to other women. There is room for conversations or connections to happen. It’s good to have art in the world that shares this idea.”

The show, which airs Fridays at 10pm Et, follows three women on...
