What Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Could Teach The Next Game In The Series
Image
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have become a massive financial success for Nintendo, but it can also teach it how to improve the next game. Scarlet and Violet sold ten million copies on the opening weekend, becoming the fastest-selling Pokémon Switch, and Nintendo game. This was achieved despite the myriad of technical issues that the game launched with, showcasing the popularity the franchise still holds; however, this popularity could always diminish if the glaring problems of recent years are not appropriately addressed.

Scarlet and Violet brought fans to Generation 9's Paldea and introduced them to the most new Pokémon since Generation 5. Much of the gameplay and story have been well received, like the addition of the Let's Go feature and three different story paths to follow, as well as being the first in the franchise to let players choose how to progress through the game. Scarlet and Violet furthered the fast...

Here’s How Long It’ll Take You To Beat Pokémon Sword And Shield
Game Freak has decided to bring back a beloved feature for Pokémon Sword and Shield.

The Gym Challenge, an iconic cornerstone of the franchise since the Red & Blue days, took a vacation with 2016’s Sun & Moon in favor of so-called Island Challenges. Despite receiving praise for a genuine attempt to innovate, the developer, it seems, has decided to reintroduce its tried and true progression system for Trainers’ upcoming visit to the Galar region. Once more, players will need to defeat a series of eight increasingly difficult opponents in order to secure their ticket to the Pokémon League, culminating in a climactic face-off with the region’s reigning champion.

That being the case, it comes as little surprise that Sword and Shield‘s main adventure will be comparable in length to its predecessors. Game director Shigeru Ohmori confirmed as much during a recent interview with Game Informer. Referencing an earlier exchange...

Pokémon Sword And Shield Will Have 18 Gyms
In yet another surprising turn of events for Pokémon Sword and Shield, developer Game Freak has revealed that it intends to change a fundamental aspect of the upcoming Switch exclusives. Since the series’ very beginning, the method in which players progress through each Generation’s story is simple. Catch and train a team of six Pokémon and then defeat a gauntlet of increasingly difficult Gym Leader battles in order to unlock the final endgame face-off against each region’s Elite Four and Champion.

Fans who picked up 2016’s Sun and Moon for the 3Ds will remember that Game Freak attempted to put a twist on the format with Kahunas and Island Challenges, which, while a refreshing change of pace, didn’t quite work as a replacement for what came before.

Fortunately, Sword and Shield will be returning to the Gym format, but unlike the usual eight Gyms, this year’s...

Pokémon Sword And Shield Has Autosave, But You Can Turn It Off
An autosave feature sounds like the most innocuous and uncontroversial thing that a developer could add to a game. After all, who wouldn’t like some security in knowing that they’re probably not going to lose progress? And yet, when it was recently announced that Pokémon Sword and Shield would periodically autosave, players got nervous.

Being able to manually save and reload as you wish makes hunting for rare Shiny Pokémon, gaining specific abilities or optimizing your creatures’ stats a hell of a lot easier. By design, the player should be at the mercy of the Rng, but being able to reload and retry can speed up the process a lot. No doubt aware of this, the game’s director Shigeru Ohmori has now reassured fans that autosave functionality will be an option you can toggle rather than something mandatory. This gives players the best of both worlds, ensuring...

New Pokémon Sword And Shield Trailer Reveals More Of The Galar Region
Much to the chagrin of many attendees at this year’s Gamescom, Pokémon Sword and Shield developer Game Freak has declined to make the trip. As Europe’s biggest games exhibition (and E3’s unofficial sister event), many Pokéfans will no doubt have expected the studio to make an appearance at the show in Cologne, Germany in order to provide more details for the Switch games. After all, with plenty of mysterious Galarian Pokémon and Dynamax details yet to be revealed, Game Freak certainly isn’t short on secrets to share.

Fortunately, the developer has managed to squeeze out a new video to account for its unexpected absence and this one has to do with Sword and Shield‘s new UK-inspired region, Galar.

Ultra Sun And Moon Will Be The Final Pokemon RPG For 3Ds
You read that right 3Ds owners, Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon will be the last RPG entry on the system. Game Freak Director Shigeru Ohmori recently conducted an interview with IGN, stating;

"When we were making Pokemon X and Y, we really were trying to push the 3Ds system to its absolute limits - which is what we thought we’d done. But when Sun and Moon came around, we completely redesigned the system, and actually ended up pushing the 3Ds even further to what we thought was the most we could draw out of it."

You can check out the full interview here.

It seems like Game Freak will be focusing all their time on the recently announced Pokemon RPG title for the Switch. The 3Ds had a fantastic run with Pokemon games and although this may be sad news for diehards, it’s also quite exciting to see...
