The new cyber-crime-thriller series ‘Hack Crimes’ is a different take on the crime genre altogether, as it covers another part of crime that is seldom covered. The director of the series, Parmeet Sethi has spoken of a particular scene which was shot in a dumpyard which proved to be its most difficult part due to both toxic fumes, as well as high temperatures.
Detailing the experience, he said: “All of the scenes are easy and difficult, but the one we shot in the dumpyard was the most difficult.”
Cyber-crime is something that is very much real as stealing of information regarding finances through simple scams or massive heists, state secrets, case details, among others by simply by hacking into computer terminals can prove to be just as lethal as a kidnapping, or killing.
“The garbage had many burning mountains, and shooting with the toxic fumes everywhere was extremely challenging. It was 40 degrees outside,...

The new cyber-crime-thriller series ‘Hack Crimes Online’ is definitely an ingenious feature. The newly released trailer of the series sees a great mixture of cinematic flair and charm with a harrowingly realistic depiction of cybercrimes with regards to the ingenuity of cyber criminals.
Much of the depictions of cybercrime in the trailer drive home a scarily dangerous and real narrative of how enterprising and technologically adept minds can wreak havoc all across the board.
In its truest form, cyber crime is more than just phishing or stealing small amounts of money from banks, instead it can extend to misinformation, breaking through servers of entire government departments that can bring a country to its knees. This is the true darkness of cybercrime.
But there is also a level of Bollywood flair that makes this series an adrenaline booster, fuelling the significant thrills with a lot of suspense. As such, the trailer...

Frankly, “Silent Murders” is a decent if overall unremarkable genre effort. What works nicely for the film is writer/director Dubey's storyline which includes some intriguing ideas.

In their lust for money, cyber thugs endanger the safety of the nation. The owners of the fake call centres, who were apprehended here, train youths, hire them for very little pay, and make enormous profits by getting them to commit fraud. The authorities frequently discover youths working for the centres and in most cases, the mastermind absconds.
Such cyber frauds put India’s security at risk as foreigners too get cheated by these centres.
In the last five years, more than 250 fake call centres or telephone exchanges, big and small, have been exposed in Noida and Greater Noida West.
Callers use jobs, insurance and cyber help as topics to cheat people. In some centres, foreigners run the whole company who remain to be apprehended.
Fraudulent call centres usually target the unemployed people and lure them easily by promising jobs. Along with this, people are cheated in the name of cheap loans,...

Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), Jan 31 (Ians) A former student of the Allahabad University (Au) claims to have developed a biosensor that can detect Covid-19 infection through sweat samples.
Amit Dubey, 34, who is working as a senior scientist at Quanta Calculus, Greater Noida, claims that he has developed the world’s first specific, reliable ultra-small gold nanoclusters for biomedical and biosensing applications to detect Covid.
His work can lead to a new age of effective and cheaper testing kits capable of detecting Covid-19 using just the sweat of an individual instead of nasal or throat swabs that kits of today need.
Sharing his research, findings of which have been recently published in ‘Luminescence: The Journal of Biological and Chemical Luminescence’, a US journal published by Wiley, Dubey said the biosensors would be a one-step identification or sensing technique.

Prayagraj, Oct 17 (Ians) There has been significant headway in the treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Als), also known as The Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Als is associated with the death of motor nerve cells, or neurons, affecting around three to five in one lakh population above 50 years of age each year in India and causing around 1.5 lakh deaths annually as per estimates.
Amit Dubey, a former researcher of the Allahabad University, along with researchers from Shoolini University of Himachal Pradesh and Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University, Japan, has done the research.
At present, there is no cure for Als and no effective treatment to halt or reverse the progression of the disease.
The results of the research have been published in the prestigious “New Journal of Chemistry”, Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), UK.
However, improving prospects of identifying new treatment options for motor neurone disease, referred to as Als,...

The online misinformation campaign that former President Donald Trump’s political war room ran on Facebook in the 2016 US elections for the first time alerted governments the world over how social media can be misused by political parties to swing votes.
According to a latest policy paper by The Stimson Center, a US-based non-profit think tank, researchers believe that organised social media misinformation campaigns have operated in at least 81 countries, a trend that continues to grow yearly, with a sizable number of state-backed and private corporation manipulation efforts.
"Social media’s enormous impact is unmistakable. Facebook sees approximately 300 million new photos uploaded daily, while six thousand Tweets are sent every second. The most popular YouTube channels receive over 14 billion views weekly, while the messaging app Telegram boasts over 500 million users. “Thy, the young son of a cricket farmer, mourns his mother’s passing and faces the arrival of his father’s new bride and her daughter. The film is a portrait of a day in Thy’s world of silent grief and hopeful dreams, painted over the canvas of rural Cambodia.”
“A Fallen Fruit” is screening at Vienna Shorts
Focusing on the struggles of a young boy in coming to grips with both his mother’s death and the transition within the family unit, “A Fallen Fruit” is able to offer a lot of substance within its simplistic and meditative approach. As a result, the production feels less of a narrative exploration of loss, though not to a fault, and more focused on creating an ethereal atmosphere based around the landscape of rural Cambodia.
As a result, Jeremiah Overman’s cinematography becomes one of the short film’s best attributes.

The main purpose of the Syf initiative is to allow movies that very rarely anyone watches, much reviews, to find at least a certain amount of exposure, through our articles. Our efforts have resulted in more than 260 articles since April 2019, plus a number of trailers and full movies on our YouTube channel, a number of which eventually found distribution, mostly in various streaming services.
Furthermore, our cooperation with Vienna Shorts has given an opportunity to submit a number of them to the Oscar-qualifying festival, with a significant price-off. This year, we are very glad to announce that, from the ten we submitted, two were picked for screening in the 2021 edition, something we consider a big success.
The two films are “Fallen Fruit” by Cambodian Amit Dubey, and “Sexy Sushi” by Singaporeans Calleen Koh and Amanda Teo. The former will screen as part of Bests of the Fests and the latter...

The Festival opens the doors as the first film event in Austria which is held live again, and with an extensive, albeit naturally limited, offering. Of the total of 310 films and more than 60 planned program items, around a third can be experienced on the big screen in Vienna.
The entire program is published and can be streamed online on the festival’s film portal from May 27. On site, all competition programs will be shown locally at Stadtkino im Künstlerhaus—except for the Austrian Music Video Award, which will take place on May 30 at the jazz club Porgy & Bess, including a live concert by the Viennese hip-hop band EsRAP.
Dancer, choreographer and filmmaker Paul Wenninger will be guest of honor with his extraordinary films and a Carte Blanche at the Austrian Film Museum. At Filmhauskino am Spittelberg, there will be a Director’s Talk with three up-and-coming Austrian directors in cooperation with the directors’ association Ada.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) is a regional intergovernmental organization comprising of ten countries in Southeast Asia, namely Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam. Evidently, the movie industry of these countries does not yet reach the size of Japan, India and S. Korea for example, so we decided to include them in one list, although we still retain a hope that in the next years, we will see a cinematic boom from there also. Evidently, the Philippines are at least a step ahead of the rest of the Asean countries in that regard, which is the reason so many films from the country are included in the list, but particularly in 2020, both Malaysia and Indonesia have taken step forward, with a number of exciting productions. Also of note is that this list includes a number of shorts, from directors we feel will draw attention...

The truth is, that despite common belief, horror is not dominant at all as a genre in Asia; in fact the only time it ever was, was during the J-horror explosion. However, a number of very interesting productions in the realm of the extreme do continue to be produced, while this year, “One Cut of the Dead”, a zombie movie, became one of the most impactful productions of the year, for various reasons, with the same applying to “Dukun”, a Malaysian film which was completed in 2007, but managed to be screened only this year, due to its controversial nature.
Nevertheless, here are the best horror/splatter/thriller movies of 2018, in random order. “Something bad is happening in this house.”
In many ways, working in the film business can be paradoxical, but often quite frustrating experience. As one walks into any movie theater the omnipresence of the superhero, romantic comedy and Disney-figures signifies the kind of cultural globalization of our world. Indeed, the global village has its movie theaters, and it often feels as if they play the same film no matter which part one lives in. Of course, no one will complain too much as a bit of familiarity goes a long way, especially in a foreign country. But at the same time, there will perhaps also be a sense of something missing here, something which is unique for the part of the global village one has chosen to visit.
Naturally, competing with the economic capabilities of Hollywood will always be a losing game. Nevertheless, in many parts of the world,...

Revolving around a rural fiend's pursuit for revenge against a middle-class professional whose self-righteous act landed him incarcerated, Indian director Amit Dubey's thriller could be readily described as Cape Fear on the Mekong. Produced by Jimmy Henderson, who has already made three genre movies (the comical action-thriller Hanuman, the horror-romance of The Forest Whispers and the martial-arts spectacle of Jailbreak) in Cambodia, Mind Cage also showcases the visual and technical opportunities the Southeast Asian country now offers to foreign and local filmmakers.

Traditional and modern methods collide in Amit Dubey's feature film debut and Cambodia's first psychological thriller, Mind Cage. Dubey passed along the trailer for his first feature film and it is definitely worth checking out. Apart from some arresting imagery there is a great sense of menace in it as well. A traditional healer in a Cambodian village uses violent methods to treat his mentally ill patient by locking her up in a cage. He gets humiliated and locked up when a Psychiatrist from the city intervenes and proves him wrong. Having lost all respect and hungry for revenge, the Healer manages to escape and tracks down the Psychiatrist and stalks his family.
