10 Shows To Watch If You Liked HBO's Band Of Brothers
Image
Band of Brothers set the bar for war dramas on TV with its epic scale, intense battle sequences, and moral analysis of wartime experiences. Just like Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers revolutionized the genre, bringing movie-sized production values to the small screen. From The Pacific to Chernobyl, shows like Band of Brothers continue to explore the impact of war on soldiers and civilians with gripping storytelling.

Despite the epic scale and storytelling, there are shows like Band of Brothers that manage to touch on the qualities that made it so great. HBO's Emmy-winning miniseries Band of Brothers is an expansive and enthralling World War II drama that documents the efforts of an American regiment (nicknamed 'Easy Company') and their experiences at war. Just like how the show's producers Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks' cinematic collaboration, Saving Private Ryan, revolutionized the genre of war drama, Band of Brothers...

Jesse Lee Soffer, Christina Wolfe, Carter Redwood, Eva-Jane Willis, and Vinessa Vidotto in FBI: International (2021)
What Happened Last Season on ‘FBI,’ ‘FBI: Most Wanted’ and ‘FBI: International’
Jesse Lee Soffer, Christina Wolfe, Carter Redwood, Eva-Jane Willis, and Vinessa Vidotto in FBI: International (2021)
Before you tune in for the return of the “FBI” franchise on CBS on Tuesday, Sept. 20, here’s a short overview of the biggest things that happened on each series last season. The three shows crossed over in their respective season premieres to launch the third “FBI” show, “FBI: International,” which is set in Budapest, Hungary.

‘FBI’ Season 4 Recap

Kellan Lutz left the show in October 2021 after his character, Kenny Crosby, was shot.

Maggie Bell (Missy Peregrym) went undercover and began dating a fellow agent, whom her partner, O.A. Zidan (Zeeko Zaki), did not trust. O.A.’s instincts proved correct when Maggie realized her new boyfriend’s maverick ways put everyone else in danger. In one of the last episodes before the finale, Maggie and O.A. faced off with a terrorist armed with sarin gas. Maggie’s exposure to the gas was near-fatal and last we saw of her,...

Paul Schrader
Venice Review: Master Gardener Closes Out Paul Schrader’s Great Contemporary Trilogy
Paul Schrader
There is a paradox at the heart of Master Gardener. In their respective worlds—one of abstinence and iconography; the other of money and risk—priests and gamblers are kind of sexy. In their own ways, so are gigolos, drug dealers, porn stars, sex addicts, even taxi drivers. Gardeners? For all their charms, maybe less so. The latest from Paul Schrader rounds out an idiosyncratic trilogy: without breaking the mould, and for three films in a row, the director has placed his man-in-a-room archetype into the fraught, divided milieu of contemporary America. With First Reformed and Card Counter, Schrader could bank on audiences already being attuned to the quasi-culty vibes of his characters’ extreme callings. Master Gardener, the story of a diligent horticulturist, has a bit more heavy lifting to do; but there’s fun to be had in the labor.

This one stars Joel Edgerton, entering the Schraderverse as...

‘Master Gardener’ Review: A Brooding Joel Edgerton Can’t Make Paul Schrader’s Belabored Allegory Bloom
Image
Click here to read the full article.

On paper, Paul Schrader’s latest, Master Gardener, has all the elements to be a continuation of the writer-director’s recent renaissance with First Reformed and The Card Counter. Another solitary man tormented by a violent past seeks regeneration, penning detailed journals about the obsession — in this case, horticulture — that keeps his darkest thoughts at bay. Joel Edgerton’s haunted central performance as former white supremacist Narvel Roth fits the essential Schrader mold of a troubled soul hiding from his demons. But little else rings true in a drama curiously lacking in texture, which misses the mark in lifeless scene after scene.

The film premieres out of competition in Venice in conjunction with Schrader receiving the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement, an honor fully earned with a distinguished body of work going back almost 50 years. However, this is one of his weaker efforts,...

Competition: Win ‘Hell Fest’ on DVD
To celebrate the DVD release of Hell Fest which is available on DVD and Digital now, we have a copy of the DVD up for grabs, courtesy of Vertigo Releasing!

Strap in for the ride of your life and death! A terrifying tribute and modern twist on classic bloody slasher fun, Hell Fest is the perfect treat for anyone who doesn’t want Halloween to end! Paying homage to our favourite slasher films of the ‘80s, Hell Fest is an exhilarating fever pitch of bloody chaos, played out across a lush neon playground where danger, and the next gruesome (and surprisingly inventive) kill, waits around every corner!

More than just a stylish setting, the theme park’s lavishly constructed labyrinth of grim attractions become characters in their own right, as we join the hapless teens in fearful suspense of what may simply be part of the festivities, or something more sinister.

‘Hell Fest’ DVD Review
Stars: Bex Taylor-Klaus, Reign Edwards, Amy Forsyth, Tony Todd, Courtney Dietz, Michael Tourek, Christian James, Matt Mercurio, Roby Attal, Elle Graham, Alicia Rosato, Brooke Jaye Taylor, Mason Pike | Written by Seth M. Sherwood, Blair Butler, William Penick, Christopher Sey, Akela Cooper | Directed by Gregory Plotkin

Hell Fest is the latest simplistic, conventional, horror film from the depths of the money-grubbing Hollywood machine. Helmed by director Gregory Plotkin, only his second feature after highly successful stints as an editor on numerous productions, ranging from Jordan Peele’s Get Out to the Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams comedy Game Night. Plotkin is most noticeably and well known to have been a longtime series editor on the long-enduring and softly effective Paranormal Activity franchise, even helming the fifth entry Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension, with little to no acclaim or credit. Amy Forsyth
Film Review: ‘Hell Fest’
Amy Forsyth
Eye candy without much to offer the brain or emotions, “Hell Fest” is a competently crafted slasher film rendered instantly forgettable by its disinterest in character, plot, and motivation, let alone original ideas. An early Halloween salvo, it will be gone from theaters before that holiday (or even the latest screen “Halloween”) arrives, but should in the short term satisfy that seasonal itch among horror fans before bigger, better fright-fests arrive.

After the obligatory prior-victim’s-fate prelude, we meet the film’s college student protagonists, who are young and cute but not much else. Natalie (Amy Forsyth) reunites with ex-roomie Bff Brooke (Reign Edwards) — the movie suggests there’s some reason why they haven’t seen each other for a while, but never gets around to explaining it — while less enthusiastically renewing acquaintance with Brooke’s irksome new flatmate Taylor (Bex Taylor-Klaus).

Nonetheless, all three are soon off to Hell Fest,...

Review: Hell Fest is a Fun, But Familiar Slash-and-Stash
Halloween is right around the corner. The season for creepy costumes, pumpkin carving, and candy collecting is nigh. Above all, it’s the season for haunted hayrides, menacing mazes, eerie escape rooms, and spooky spectacles. These attractions are more popular now than ever. Forbes reported on the numbers: Halloween spending reached $8.4 billion in 2016, and it was estimated to reach $9.1 billion last year, so the timing is perfect for a big-screen horror film that’s set almost entirely in an amusement park on All Hallows’ Eve.

Hell Fest falls back on a familiar formula: put archetypal, good-looking young people in peril on a dark night and let the body count commence. The “Hell Fest” of the title is a traveling carnival that features a labyrinth of horror-themed rides, diversions, and themed rooms, and attracts thousands of fans wherever it goes. It’s all fun and games at first, but our heroes...

Red-Band Trailer For The Horror-Themed Amusement Park Serial Killer Thriller Hell Fest
A serial killer is on the loose and brutally murdering people in a horror-themed traveling amusement park in this new red-band trailer for Hell Fest. What makes this film so interesting is that the people who are being hunted down think that all of these killings are fake and all part of the show... at first. Then reality kicks in and they are fighting to survive!

I like the concept of this movie because it's something that I think a lot of us may have thought about while going to these fun and creepy Halloween attractions every year. What if a demented killer went on a killing spree in one of these settings?

The movie stars Amy Forsyth, Reign Edwards, Bex Taylor-Klaus, Christian James, Roby Attal, Matt Mercurio and Tony Todd, and here's the synopsis:
