James Bond actor Daniel Craig was set to make his debut in a DC Studios project, marking a first for the accomplished actor, but that's no longer the case. Now, he will become the latest of several action stars to miss out on playing the iconic DC Comics character Sgt. Rock.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Craig has exited Sgt. Rock, a feature film in development at DC Studios based on the war hero made popular by DC Comics. Craig was set to play Sgt. Rock, and the casting would have reunited him with director Luca Guadagnino, with whom he worked with on the recent movie Queer. The Sgt. Rock film is written by Justin Kuritzkes, who also wrote Guadagnino's Queer and Challengers.

Daniel Craig may soon be teaming up with DC Studios to take on the role of a classic comic book character. The potential deal would also see him partner back up with director Luca Guadagnino.

Per Deadline, Craig is wanted to star in DC Studios' planned feature film adaptation of Sgt. Rock. Guadagnino, who recently worked with Craig on Queer, is also eyed to direct. The film, based on DC's classic Sgt. Rock comic books, is written by Justin Kuritzkes, who also wrote Guadagnino's Challengers and Queer. The project is reportedly in development at DC Studios under the eye of James Gunn and Peter Safran, but the two have not yet addressed the news.

DC Studios has a packed schedule ahead. Along with the projects announced for Dcu’s Chapter 1: Gods & Monsters, they’re also working on other projects, like an animated movie about two Robins called Dynamic Duo and a live-action Teen Titans movie.

Recently, rumors started spreading online that a Sgt. Rock movie is in the works, with Luca Guadagnino as the director.

Sgt. Franklin Rock, created by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert in 1959, is a member of the Easy Company, a World War II unit fighting in Europe. Since the 1980s, there have been multiple attempts to bring the character to the big screen, with actors like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis once considered for the role.
