Brittany O'Grady
Epic ABC Pilot From Once Upon a Time Creators Dead at ABC
Brittany O'Grady
An epic love story will not be taking flight at ABC.

The network has officially scrapped its fairytale drama from Once Upon a Time creators Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis.

The cast of the potential series was set to be led by Brittany O’Grady (Little Voice), who played cynical princess Luna, and Eleanor Fanyinka (Holby City), who played a mysterious character known as The Seer.

Modern Family's Sarah Hyland was also set to appear in the project as a princess named Rose.

O'Grady was set to be the lead as Luna, with it being revealed that the character is changed by a broken heart.

She does not believe in love stories, but “she is about to find herself caught in the most epic one of all — her own.”

Epic was described as “a romantic anthology series set in the fairytale universe of Disney… taking place in a Disney-like Enchanted Forest.

‘Epic’: Fairytale Drama Pilot From ‘Once Upon a Time’ Creators Not Going Forward At ABC
Image
ABC brass have made the final round of decisions on the network’s outstanding drama pilots. Following the pickup to series for sprawling multi-generational Latinx family drama Promised Land earlier today, the network has opted not to proceed with the fairytale-themed Epic, executive produced by Once Upon a Time creators Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis.

ABC previously picked up to series drama pilot Queens while passing on Triage, Dark Horse and the Kevin Costner-executive produced National Parks Investigation.

Epic, written by former Once Upon a Time writer Brigitte Hales and directed by James Griffiths, was among three 2021 ABC drama pilots that were put on a different track; it was filmed in Ireland for post-upfront consideration. The large-scope drama, headlined by Brittany O’Grady and also starring Sarah Hyland and Eleanor Fanyinka, was described as a romantic anthology that reinvents fairy tales for a new audience.

‘Once Upon a Time’ Creators’ Fairy Tale Pilot ‘Epic’ Not Moving Forward at ABC
Edward kitsis
ABC decided Wednesday not to move forward with “Once Upon a Time” creators Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis’s fairy tale pilot “Epic,” TheWrap has learned.

The now-scrapped project, which is described as “a romantic anthology series that reinvents fairy tales for a new audience,” stars Brittany O’Grady as cynical princess Lune, Sarah Hyland as princess Rose, Eleanor Fanyinka as the mysterious character The Seer and “Game of Thrones” alum Toby Sebastian as Prince Philippe.

Horowitz and Kitsis, who most recently reteamed to reboot Steven Spielberg’s “Amazing Stories” at Apple TV+, are executive producers on the “Epic” pilot. Brigitte Hales, a veteran of “Once Upon a Time” and Hulu’s “11.22.63,” wrote the pilot script and is also an executive producer.

The pilot hailed from Disney’s studio ABC Signature.

Horowitz and Kitsis’ “Once Upon a Time” ran on ABC for seven seasons, from 2011 to 2018. The show, which centered around...

ABC Pilots Update: Bad News for Kevin Costner's National Parks as Network Nixes Three Pilots
Kevin Costner in Rumor Has It... (2005)
ABC is making some decisions about its remaining pilots, and it's bad news for three promising ideas.

Kevin Costner-executive produced National Parks Investigation, Triage, and Dark Horse are no longer moving ahead at the network.

The good news is that National Parks Investigation and Dark Horse are both being shopped to other outlets, but the jury is out on whether Triage will be shopped.

National Parks follows the elite special agents of the Investigative Services Branch who are tasked with solving the most complex and heinous crimes committed within the diverse and majestic National Parks of the Isb’s Pacific West region.

The cast included Billy Cambell, Angel Parker, Gerardo Celasco, Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut, Blu Hunt, Tiffany Dupont, and Guillermo Diaz.

Something tells us this one would serve as a good companion to Yellowstone over on Paramount.

ABC Will “Continue To Evaluate” Pilots Including Kevin Costner’s ‘National Parks’, ‘Triage’ Still Active & Why It Passed On Alec Baldwin/Kelsey Grammer Comedy
Image
ABC believes that its year-round development cycle will mean that it can give creators of pilots such as Kevin Costner’s National Parks and Epic from Once Upon a Time creators Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis a better shot of landing on the schedule.

The Disney-owned network still has a number of pilot projects in various states of production and ABC chief Craig Erwich told Deadline that it will “continue to evaluate” these dramas.

This comes after it handed series pickups for the 2021/22 broadcast season to pilots The Wonder Years, Queens, Maggie and Abbott Elementary and passed on pilots including Sam Esmail’s Acts of Crime and comedies Black Don’t Crack and Bucktown.

Erwich said crime drama National Parks, which the Yellowstone star co-wrote with Aaron Helbing and Jon Baird, is still in editing, while romantic anthology Epic, which stars Brittany O’Grady, Sarah Hyland and Eleanor Fanyinka, and Matt Lopez...

ABC Pilot Update: Kevin Costner’s ‘National Parks Investigation’, ‘Dark Horse’, ‘Epic’, ‘Promised Land’ & ‘Triage’ Still Active, Will Be Considered For Midseason
Image
It’s been a busy day at ABC.

The network has handed series pickups to pilots The Wonder Years, Queens, Maggie and Abbott Elementary and passed on pilots including Sam Esmail’s Acts of Crime and comedies Black Don’t Crack and Bucktown.

But there are five pilots that are still in consideration for the 2021-22 broadcast season, including Kevin Costner’s National Parks Investigation, that will be considered for midseason.

These also include Dark Horse, Epic, Promised Land and Triage.

Dark Hose, Epic and Promised Land have yet to be filmed and will be considered after the upfronts, while the off-cycle Triage pilot was produced and went through a rollercoaster ride of a poorly received first cut, highly testing second cut and so-so screening response. National Parks Investigation was considered a wildcard for fall consideration but a final, broadcast-length cut of the pilot, was not delivered in time.

Brittany O'Grady to Lead ABC's Epic Pilot From Once Upon a Time Creators
Brittany O'Grady
A fairytale drama of epic proportions is brewing at ABC.

Brittany O'Grady has landed the lead role of Luna in the network's pilot, Epic, which comes from Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis (Once Upon a Time).

Deadline first reported the news, revealing that Luna is a princess changed by a broken heart.

She does not believe in love stories, but “she is about to find herself caught in the most epic one of all — her own.”

It's an intriguing hook, but we should make one thing clear:

This is not a Once Upon a Time spinoff. It's a standalone series that will put a new spin on classic Disney fairytales.

The cast also includes Eleanor Fanyinka, who is set to play a character named The Seer.

Epic is described as “a romantic anthology series set in the fairytale universe of Disney… taking place in a Disney-like Enchanted Forest.”

Between a contestant’s frightening on-stage collapse to an equally frightening performance by future momager Kellyanne Conway, Monday’s American Idol was full of surprises.

But before we dive into the results, here’s a quick reminder of the notable names we lost on Sunday: Ammon Olayan, Brianna Collichio, Cameron McGhar, Celeste Butler, Christian McGuckian, Christian Terry, DJ Johnson, Erika Perry, James Perdue, Liv Grace Blue, Mason Picks, She Nova, Trinity Rose, Tryzdin Grubbs, Vahhley and Yurisbel. (I’d say they’ll all be remembered… but this is Season 19, so let’s not kid ourselves.)

Masters of Love review – awkward sex and terrible hangovers
Matt Roberts
A group of twentysomethings freewheel through messy modern relationships in an enjoyable comedy with a startling mood switch

There’s energy, empathy and fun in this smart micro-budget movie from writer-director Matt Roberts, making his feature debut. It’s a freewheeling relationship comedy about an ensemble of twentysomethings in pre-Covid London, enduring quarter-life crises and terrible hangovers.

Niall (Ciarán Dowd) is a standup comic, dating sous chef Lily (Bekka Bowling) who is weirded out by his neediness and in any case attracted to Niall’s flatmate, would-be food vlogger Josh (Owen Roberts) going through a painful breakup, whose sister Emmy (Sarah Ovens) is a photographer dedicated to traditional roll-film cameras and dark-room developing, about to marry her stylish girlfriend, Sam (Eleanor Fanyinka).
