It’s been only a year since Prison Break returned to Netflix globally, allowing subscribers outside the US to enjoy all five seasons and ninety episodes, which we’ve now learned will be leaving the streamer again soon. Created by Paul Scheuring for Fox, the crime drama debuted on August 29, 2005, and concluded with a nine-episode fifth season that ran from April 4 to May 30, 2017. Later on, it made its way to Netflix, where it was initially removed internationally in January 2022, but returned in September 2024, months after Netflix US re-added the show in July.
As part of a content licensing deal with Disney for legacy Fox titles, Netflix re-added the hit action thriller to its catalog for a single year, which is set to end next month. With that, Prison Break will not be available to subscribers in all international regions, including Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada, all of Latin America, Europe,...

Horror fans are smiling. This past week, Netflix added to its catalog a horror movie that was a standout in movie theaters, and subscribers had been dying to watch it or give it a second viewing. The result was predictable: Smile 2is now among the top 10 most-watched movies on the streaming platform this week. This time, the story follows music superstar Skye Riley (Naomi Scott) as she gets hit with the curse that makes everyone around her do terrible things – all with a smile on their faces.
Back when the first movie premiered in 2022, the concept of Smilewas already sinister enough. In the sequel, however, director and screenwriter Parker Finn (Smile) found a way to make it even more disturbing, with some death scenes that viewers will remember forever. One of them involves Lukas Gage (Companion) and a weight plate in a scene that you have to see to believe.

After losing fan-favorite action filmmaker Guy Ritchie, Amazon MGM Studios has moved quickly to find a new director for Road House 2. Less than a month later, the studio may have found the perfect replacement director for the action sequel.
According to Deadline, Ilya Naishuller is in negotiations to take over as director of Road House 2. While Naishuller's name may not be as recognizable as Ritchie's, the filmmaker's work speaks for itself. After wowing audiences with his sci-fi action movie Hardcore Henry (2015), which was shot entirely from the first-person perspective of its lead character, Naishuller directed the 2021 action thriller Nobody, which stars Bob Odenkirk as a former assassin thrust back into his old life. His most recent directorial effort, Heads of State, premiered just three weeks ago on Prime Video. The action comedy, which is headlined by Idris Elba and John Cena, has so far been a major...

The Road House sequel recently hit a massive roadblock, but it appears Amazon has quickly found a solution to their problems. Guy Ritchie, originally slated to helm Road House 2, is no longer attached to the project. A few weeks after his departure, the studio has recruited a familiar filmmaker to handle directing duties on the action flick.
Deadline reports that Ilya Naishuller (Nobody) is in talks to direct Road House 2, the sequel to the 2024 remake starring Jake Gyllenhaal. Amazon MGM Studios is looking to bring back the Heads of State director into the fold for the highly-anticipated follow-up, which will see Gyllenhaal return in the lead role. It's unclear if anyone else from the first film will reprise their roles, but it was recently reported that Guardians of the Galaxy and Dune star Dave Bautista was slated to join the upcoming action sequel. Prison Break was revived — and not for the first time — on Netflix last year when it was added to the platform and topped Nielsen charts for months straight. This prompted Hulu to greenlight a Prison Break reboot near the end of 2024, one that reportedly had no plans to bring back any former Prison Break stars. However, this didn’t stop fans from speaking their mind, with many calling for original stars Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller to return as Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows. Purcell, who is also known for his work as Mick Rory in DC’s Arrowverse, decided he’s heard enough. Purcell took to his personal Instagram to definitively respond to the rumors, shutting them down and confirming he will not return in the Prison Break reboot.
The Prison Break reboot is reportedly set in the same universe as the original Prison Break, but featuring all-new characters.

It's officially the centerpiece of the summer season: Fourth of July weekend! Netflix has officially announced a release date for one of its most anticipated upcoming rom-coms, starring one of the leads of The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Romance and its offshoots have become even more popular over the last few years, with dozens of bestselling contemporary romances, romantic comedies, and massive romantasy (a blend of romance and fantasy) tomes being picked up by streamers for adaptation.
Of course, streaming giant Netflix is no different, having acquired the rights to several bestselling romance novels, including Jenny Han's To All The Boys series (all three movies are available to watch on Netflix now), and its upcoming, eye-wateringly expensive adaptation of Callie Hart's romantasy novel, Quicksilver. There's more to come, though, and soon, as one summer-themed contemporary romance has set a wintry release date on the platform.

‘Companion’ is smart, creepy, and totally buried in the algorithm.
There’s so much new stuff dropping on streamers every week, it’s easy to miss a great movie or TV show — especially when it’s not being promoted. HBO Max is packed with big-name movies and solid originals, but some of the best titles are buried so deep, you’d never stumble on them unless you were actively searching. That’s exactly what has happened with “Companion,” a seriously great sci-fi thriller that’s way better than most of what’s trending right now… and yet, you’d never know it unless you went digging. Here’s why “Companion” is the best under-the-radar thriller on HBO Max right now.

The Prison Break reboot is building its cast one eerie guest star at a time. Hulu’s upcoming pilot set in the world of the original Fox series has just added four more actors in major guest roles — and they’re bringing some serious genre cred with them. The new series hails from Mayans M.C. co-creator Elgin James, and while the exact plot is still under wraps, it’s clear this version of Prison Break is putting together a crew that could rival Michael, Linc, Sucre and T-Bag.
McKinnon will play Joe Dahl, a private detective haunted by a long-cold case. Martindale takes on the role of Jessica Strand, the no-nonsense warden of one of the most dangerous prisons in the country. Logue appears as Holt Keane, a grieving...

The Jake Gyllenhaal-led remake of the 80s action classic Road House was a big hit for Amazon last year, and the sequel has now snatched up the perfect director. After some rumor and speculation, it has now been confirmed that Gyllenhaal will reunite with The Covenant director Guy Ritchie for Road House 2, with Will Beall writing the script.
As per a report by Deadline, plot details for Road House 2 are currently being kept under wraps, with Ritchie taking over the reins for the action franchise from the first outing’s Doug Liman following the latter’s frustration with Amazon skipping theaters and debuting the movie on their streaming platform Prime Video. Road House was a massive success on Prime Video when it was released in 2024. After breaking several records on the platform, Amazon MGM Studios officially granted a sequel.
After several disagreements between director Doug Liman and Amazon MGM Studios over the film's release, the sequel will change directors. Jake Gyllenhaal is officially set to return as ex-UFC fighter Elwood Dalton in the sequel, and he will reunite with a former director: Guy Ritchie. After several rumors, Variety officially confirmed Guy Ritchie will direct the sequel to 2024's Road House.
Road House is a remake of the 1989 classic of the same name starring Patrick Swayze. Although the movie received mixed reviews from the critics and the audience, it ended up being a major success, and Amazon hurried to greenlight a sequel. The first entry has 60% from the critics, just barely holding on to a "fresh" badge, and 52% from the audience on the Popcornmeter.
