Laika Plots Re-Releases, New Merch and Partnerships for 20th Anniversary | Exclusive
Image
The Portland, Oregon-based Laika has, in its first 20 years, become as identifiable an animation brand as Studio Ghibli or Pixar.

The studio is known for their handcrafted stop-motion-animated tales that flirt with the macabre and, while being (so far at least) for all audiences, never forgo their edge. And, in celebrating their 20th anniversary leading up to the release of their latest feature “Wildwood” next year, the company is pulling out all the stops, with a lineup of new product releases, partnerships, exhibitions and publishing initiatives. This includes everything from a redesign of the official site (by creative agency Monks) to new merchandise coming to the official shop to a series of videos from Devon Rodriguez (you can see an exclusive video below) to a Rizzoli coffee table book called “Laika: The Magic Behind a Stop-Motion Dream Factory.” For the next year, everything is truly coming up Laika.

The Copeland Brothers, as they are collectively known, have been working for the past five years on feature and series projects for DreamWorks Animation. Review: Wonder Woman: Bloodlines
Since we’re in a long wait between live-action Wonder Woman movies, it makes sense for Warner Animation to fill the gap. I just wish they filled it with something stronger than the just-released Wonder Woman: Bloodlines. The story is mostly about Diana and Vanessa Kapatelis with a hideous cabal of rogues attempting to plunder the technology of Themyscira.

It looks like it should fit in the animated continuity but it doesn’t really. We’re treated to a lengthy pre-credit sequence that recaps her origin and rushes things so quickly, that you blink and we’ve gone from Diana (Rosario Dawson) rescuing Steve Trevor (Jeffrey Donovan) to her leaving paradise for Man’s World and suddenly is allied with Etta Candy (Adrienne C. Moore) as they go to hang out with Dr. Julia Kapatelis (Nia Vandalos).

Screenwriter Mairghread Scott, who has extensive animation credits, notably within the Marvel Universe,...

Batman: Hush Director Wants to Do No Man's Land Movie with Robert Pattinson
Director Justin Copeland, the man behind DC and Warner Bros.' animated adaptation of Batman: Hush, wants to take Robert Pattinson to No Man's Land. As fans of the Caped Crusader are surely aware by now, Pattinson, the former Twilight star and current indie aficionado, has been cast in the lead role for Matt Reeves' The Batman. The hope is that movie will kick off a trilogy and, should the opportunity arise for Copeland to have a stab at one, he knows exactly which story he wants to tell.

Justin Copeland has been making the rounds to promote Batman: Hush, which adapts one of the character's most beloved and seminal storylines. During a recent interview, he was asked what storyline he would take on, should he get the chance to ever do something with Batman in live-action. Here's what he had to say.

"It would definitely be No Man's Land.

Batman: Hush Director Hopes to Bring the No Man's Land Storyline to the Dceu With Robert Pattinson on Board
Justin Copeland has finished one Batman movie and would like to move onto a second one. His first was the animated movie Batman: Hush; now he would like to direct a live action version of the Batman storyline “No Man’s Land."

The story is one that DC comic book fans know. No Man’s Land revolves around a Gotham City that has been cut off from the rest of the world due to a massive earthquake. Everyone that was on the island of Gotham is left to fend for themselves.

Thanks to Popcorn Talk (via ComicBook.com) for the interview with Copeland. This is what he said about doing a live action film with Robert Pattinson as The Caped Crusader.

It would definitely be No Man’s Land," said Copeland. "If I had carte blanche, like, you can do whatever you want, I wanna tell the No Man’s...

Batman: Hush Director Wants A Live-Action No Man’s Land With Robert Pattinson
Following the success of the recent Batman: Hush animated movie, director Justin Copeland is keen to take a turn into a live-action Dark Knight film. Speaking to Popcorn Talk Network’s DC Movie News, Copeland was asked which Batman story he’d most want to direct next, and chose the “No Man’s Land” arc. Furthermore, Copeland wants to work with Robert Pattinson, who will be making his debut as Bruce Wayne in Matt Reeves’ The Batman.

Wonder Woman: Bloodlines Trailer Turns Amazon Warrior Diana Prince Into a True Hero
Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for Wonder Woman: Bloodlines. This is the latest in what DC has dubbed simply the DC Universe Movies, but it comes from a much longer line of animated DC Comics adaptations that, on the whole, have been embraced in a big way by fans. Where some of the live-action movies have left something to be desired in the eyes of many, these animated offerings tend to please and this looks to be no exception, as we've got a big, slick spectacle on the way.

The trailer kicks off with the familiar origin story for Diana Prince, who decides to become a hero to the human race after saving a man named Steve Trevor. Beyond that, the footage we see here is loaded down with action. We see Wonder Woman duking it out with the likes of Giganta, amongst many other foes. Things eventually...

Batman Fights Bane and Catwoman in 2 New Clips From DC Animation's Batman: Hush

I’m a big fan of this Batman storyline which was originally written by Jeph Loeb with art by Jim Lee. I liked the first trailer that was released and there’s a good chance this will be a decent adaptation that fans will enjoy. Here’s the synopsis for those of you not familiar with the story:

Batman: Hush Blu-ray Release Date And Bonus Content Revealed
Now that the likes of Year One, The Dark Knight Returns, The Killing Joke and Under the Red Hood are out of the way, it’s long overdue that Batman: Hush be adapted as an animated film. Batman: Hush Trailer Brings Gotham's Greatest Villains Out of Hiding
Warner Bros. has released the first full-length trailer for Batman Hush. This is the latest in a long series of animated DC Comics adaptations that have proved to be very solid and welcome additions for fans. Only occasionally do we get the major slip up. In this case, the studio is tackling one of the character's most beloved and seminal storylines in what looks to be an action-packed and totally stuffed to the gills animated tour of Gotham City.

Things kick off with a, shall we say, heated chase between Batman and Catwoman. It gets progressively tense from there, as Poison Ivy is controlling Superman, which leads to some pretty epic destruction. As it turns out, there's a mysterious villain pulling the strings from behind the scenes known only (as the title implies) Hush. From there it becomes a cat and mouse game, with the who's who of Batman's rogues...

DC's Animated Film Adaptation of Batman: Hush Gets a First Trailer
Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for their upcoming new DC animated film Batman: Hush. I love this Batman story and it’s great to see that it’s finally getting an animated film adaptation. It looks like it’ll be a pretty solid movie. I liked what I saw in this first trailer.

The original story was written by Jeph Loeb and it featured art by Jim Lee penciling, Scott Williams inking, and Alex Sinclair coloring. Here’s the synopsis for those of you not familiar:

Batman: Hush centers on a mysterious new villain known only as Hush, who uses a rogues’ gallery of villains to destroy Batman’s crime-fighting career as well as Bruce Wayne’s personal life, which has been further complicated by a relationship with Selina Kyle/Catwoman.

The film will be voiced by a slew of DC veterans as well as some new blood.

First Look And Full Voice Cast Revealed For Batman: Hush
The next DC Universe Original Movie will be an animated adaptation of classic 2000s graphic novel Hush, originally from writer Jeph Loeb and artist Jim Lee. The story sees the Dark Knight confronting a mysterious new villain called Hush and features a number of friends and foes from the DC mythos. It’s ripe to be brought to the screen, then, and now Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has released a first look at the movie.
