Sarah Cogan is a designer, visual producer and thought leader in the film and TV industry. She fell in love with storytelling when she was 8 years old and never looked back. Originally thinking she'd become an actor, Sarah trained with an LA casting director and learned to ride horses, mixed martial arts, sword fighting, dance, and archery. That all changed when she fell into design while at UC Santa Barbara, never looking back. All her performed training has informed her character and story analysis and made her a strong collaborator with all types of performers.
During her time in college, took design classes across all departments, designing the lighting and costumes for multiple shows. From there, she went straight into graduate school at UC San Diego as a double emphasis in costume and lighting. She moved to New York City in 2012 where she's now based and began designing the art direction and production design for many projects, making her a triple threat designer. She's designed and assisted on indie films to major motion pictures and everything in between.
Sarah is known for her commitment to her work and team, joyous attitude, and grounded spirit. Her work is known for its excellence and her attention to detail. Which has helped many of her films garner industry praise and awards, including a commercial called "Man Who Couldn't Handle His Handle" winning the Cannes' Silver Lion for Entertainment, feature film "18 1/2" winning multiple best film awards during the festival run and qualifying for the 2023 Oscars, and short film "Bienvenido A Los Angeles" being shortlisted for the 2024 Oscars Best Live Action Short.
Her passion and dedication to filmmaking and film design has lead her to create several industry sources including online workshops to help filmmakers understand how design helps tell stories and how to articulate their creative vision for stronger collaboration with designers that help achieve the filmmaker's creative vision. She's also opened a 200+ square foot costume rental house in Brooklyn, New York called Grandma's Closet Costume Rentals to provide much needed resources for the local film community while being able to leverage her inventory for her own creative endeavors.
