Start Your Indie-Rock Spring Off Right With Pictoria Vark’s ‘Nothing Sticks’
Image
Pictoria Vark is the spoonerism alias of the young singer-songwriter Victoria Park, who turned heads with her 2022 debut album The Parts I Dread. She aims even higher on her excellent Nothing Sticks — it’s the perfect springtime road-trip indie-rock album you didn’t realize you deserved, full of soft-spoken guitar haze and emotional travelogues. The album unfolds like the journal of a wandering young heart who rambles from town to town, from feeling to feeling, but without feeling connected anywhere. As she sings in the witty “San Diego,” “I’m wherever I go.

Pictoria Vark Is Heading Into Parts Unknown, And Finding Herself As She Goes
Image
Who is Pictoria Vark? She’s the spoonerism who serves as a rock handle for rising songwriter Victoria Park. The 23-year-old Iowa City singer/bassist just made one of last year’s finest indie records with her breakthrough, The Parts I Dread. It’s a road trip of an album—it’s full of the places she’s lived and left behind, from suburban New Jersey to rural Wyoming, from Brooklyn streets to Iowa prairies. But her songs all share that nomadic sense of wandering. As Park says with a laugh,...

The Real Iris Gives Supergirl a Shout-Out in The Flash Season 6 Deleted Scene
Candice Patton
It's been a while since we've seen the real Iris West (Candice Patton) in the real world, so it's time to take a little trip back a few episodes of The Flash.  In a new deleted scene, exclusive to E! News, Iris and Team Citizen are working on the Black Hole case and they've just set up a dead man's switch that will hopefully buy them some time...right before Iris decides to go investigate an abandoned office in the middle of the night and get snatched up by a mirror, where she remains as of press time.  In the clip from the season six episode "Marathon," Kamilla (Victoria Park) and Allegra (Kayla Compton) are feeling discouraged after an encounter with Doctor Light (Emmie...

Hey, The Flash fans. Unfortunately, we have some bad news for you guys in this report. It turns out that it's one of those times again where we have to tell you that your favorite show will not be airing tonight. Apparently, the show is taking a break because the next, new episode 18 isn't scheduled to air until Tuesday night, April 16, 2019 at approximately 7 pm central standard time. So, definitely be sure to mark that very important date down on your TV show calendars. So, what is The CW airing instead of The Flash tonight? Well, they are actually airing The Flash. It's just a freaking rerun though. They're re-airing the 13th episode of this current season 5, which is titled, "Goldfaced." CW's official description for it reads like this, "Barry (Grant Gustin) and Ralph (Hartley Sawyer) must go undercover as criminals in an illegal black market to purchase a device...

Xs And Killer Frost Team Up In New Photos From The Flash
After making one rookie mistake after another in recent episodes of The Flash, I’d say that Nora West-Allen is certainly due for some redemption. Whether she gets that next week in “Cause and Xs” remains to be seen, but fingers remain crossed because I do rather enjoy her being around.

So far, all we’ve really learned about said adventure from its official synopsis is that Nora herself will feature prominently, and that her mother, Iris, will yet again find herself in great danger. Naturally, this caused fans to react with “again?!” on social media, but that’s just what happens when confronting supervillains becomes a hobby.

Speaking of which, Iris’ predicament is teased in a freshly released batch of photos promoting next week’s outing. Seen below, they also reveal how Xs and Killer Frost will fight side by side. It should be intriguing to see if the...

Iris’ Life Is Threatened In New Synopsis For The Flash
In recent memory, Nora West-Allen has managed to get herself into one pickle after another. Usually, she runs headstrong into a situation to impress her father, Barry, and her inexperience sometimes gets the best of her. In fact, the latest episode of The Flash saw her back broken by Cicada, with the next installment stranding her inside the mind of the big bad’s niece.

Fortunately, we’ll get to see her play hero without incident once “Cause and Xs” airs in a matter of weeks. And as the freshly released synopsis indicates, her mother, Iris, will be in need of saving this time:

Iris’S Life Is Threatened — After Iris (Candice Patton) lands in serious danger, Nora (Jessica Parker Kennedy) races to save her mother. Barry (Grant Gustin) puts the finishing touches on the metahuman cure, leaving Cisco (Carlos Valdes) with a rare night off so he decides to...

7 Reasons Why You Should Eat Ice Cream In Winter
Universal Pictures

When approaching any brightly coloured, fun filled ice cream van while strolling through the local park, or approaching the chilly world of the freezer section in your local supermarket, there are certain items of ice cream confectionary that you expect to find. Its next to the syrupy sweet flavoured ice lollies and plain tubs of ice cream that you’ll find one of the nations favourite iced treats – Cornetto.

For nearly 60 years since ice cream manufacturer Spica overcame the quandary of how to put ice cream in wafer without turning it soggy, Cornetto has become one of the best selling frozen dessert brands around the globe. Whether you’re in Britain, mainland Europe, Se Asia, or in fact most countries in the world, you can rest assured that Cornetto is always on hand to satisfy those taste buds.

While you may think of Cornetto as a sturdy stalwart...

Christmas film events 2015
The best of the season’s festive film offerings, from a screening of Elf under Waterloo Station to The Snowman in Manchester with live orchestral accompaniment

Like Slade on the radio or unwanted socks from a distant relative, there’s something both comfortingly familiar and dispiritingly predictable about the traditional Christmas movie canon. But if you can’t change the movie, you can at least alter the surroundings. Even a cheery old chestnut like It’s A Wonderful Life or Home Alone can feel brand new again with the right combination of themed decor and heated alcoholic beverage; and fortunately, in London at least, there are myriad options this year.

One such is The Winter Night Garden (E3, to 23 Dec), part of Victoria Park’s Winterville. Decked out as a Narnia-like enchanted forest (but indoors) it offers a selection that also includes non-Christmas films (Inside Out plays this afternoon) as well as the traditional favourites.

Wong Fu Productions’ Feature Film ‘Everything Before Us’ Heads To Vimeo
Wong Fu Productions has secured a distribution partner for its first feature-length film. The YouTube group, founded in 2003 and comprised of Philip Chang, Wesley Chan, and Ted Fu, will release the movie Everything Before Us exclusively via Vimeo On Demand on June 3, 2015.

Originally premiering at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival on April 23, Everything Before Us is a science fiction romantic drama set in a modern day world not terribly unlike our own, except for the fact a person's romantic history is documented like a credit score. The flick focuses on a couple trying to overcome the inherent drawbacks of the system for individuals who haven't had a lot of luck in love.

Everything Before Us stars Aaron Yoo (The Tomorrow People), Ki Hong Lee (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), Randall Park (The Interview), Brittany Ishibashi (Political Animals), Victoria Park (Raven’s Touch), and Brandon Soo Hoo (Tropic Thunder).

Babylon, Ep. 1.04: “Victoria Park” is full and fast-paced
Babylon, Season 1: Episode 4 – “Victoria Park”

Written by Sam Bain

Directed by Sally El Hosaini

Airs Thursday nights at 10 on SundanceTV

Following a surprising turn of events, both for the plot of Babylon and in the context of it being a young series, “Victoria Park” shows more depth and heart than could possibly be expected of a semi-satire comedy of this type. There’s almost too much to talk about here, so maybe it’s best to start small.

The final montage of “Victoria Park” perfectly encapsulates what this episode is up to and gives each character a rather striking final moment. Even Tom, essentially the buffoon of the group, shifts around during his Quaker meeting, certainly considering speaking about losing his boss so tragically. It has been hard to take Tom seriously hitherto if just because of that wonderful smile Jonny Sweet imbues him with, but that actually works...

Prince Harry
Prince Harry Has a Playdate at Olympic Park With Adorable School Kids—See the Pics!
Prince Harry
Just when you thought Prince Harry couldn't get any cuter... The redheaded royal showed he's still a kid at heart Friday when he gamely joined group of school children on the playground at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. London Mayor Boris Johnson tagged along, too, but after having stuck on a zipline last year at Victoria Park, the zany politician decided to let the prince test out most of the playground equipment. Harry, 29, made his way across a wobbly bridge, chatted with the children and even took a turn himself in an oversized swing. It was clear from the royal's smile and the laughter of the kids' around him that he has a way with kids—perhaps thanks in part to his role as an...

‘Bloody Homecoming’ Review
Stars: Jim Tavaré, Rae Latt, Lexi Giovagnoli, Alex Dobrenko, Randi Lamey, Branden Lee Roth, Taryn Cervarich, Elizabeth Bigger, Shaleen Cholera, Grainne McDermott, Jesse Ferraro, Steve Earnest, Victoria Park, Hilary Wagner | Written by Jake Helgren | Directed by Brian C. Weed

Three years earlier Billy Corbin died trapped in a fiery storeroom. Now the ones who let him burn are attending their school homecoming party and it could be their last. It’s payback time without pity for the young, the foolish and the beautiful. One by one they disappear, each meeting a gory, terrifying end. The corridors of Winston High are dark, slippery and wet with the blood of those who came before.

First off, you’re probably all aware of just how much I love slasher movies. If I have one particular genre love (behind 80s teen flicks I might add) it’s 80s slashers. I could never get enough...

The Runners: why we interviewed people jogging for a film
Would people be more open about their lives if interviewed while jogging? One pair of film-makers decided to find out

"Who are you?" panted the stranger running towards me. It was 6.30 on a crisp winter morning in Victoria Park in east London and I was sitting on a plastic stool being pulled backwards by a bicycle.

We were trying to understand what goes on in the minds of runners as they charge through the streets. What does it do to them and what can we find out about ourselves by interrupting them at this moment of vulnerability and clarity?

Film making is an extraordinary opportunity to ask people questions that you can't ask at any other time. When you have the camera there, you are asking questions on behalf of anyone who might see it. In a way you have the public on your shoulder. The problem though is that it's always on your terms,...

The Joy of Six: Australian sports movies
From Nicole Kidman on a BMX to Collingwood on the big screen, our pick of the best sport films

1) Save Your Legs

There are a couple of pretty fail-safe ways to stop a conversation dead in its tracks, but one of the best is to try and convince someone that they need to go and see an Australian movie. If that Australian movie happened to be about a cricket team, it wouldn't be out of the question to suggest that your co-conversationalist might just turn and walk at pace. Which brings us to Save Your Legs, surely one of the least-loved Australian films of recent times and with no good reason; this film is actually half-decent.

It's quite admirable that an Australian filmmaker would multiply their odds of failure by making a film like this one. We're often told that cricket is the sport with the richest and most voluminous literary canon,...

Helen Mirren at an event for RED 2 (2013)
Watch: Dame Helen Caught On Video In Four-Letter Rant
Helen Mirren at an event for RED 2 (2013)
Dame Helen Mirren has shown her sense of humour is still intact, stepping out wearing a special T-shirt, following her four-letter outburst in the guise of The Queen.

And some amateur video has emerged of the incident, which took place over the weekend outside the Gielgud Theatre in London's West End. Watch Above.

In the video, Dame Helen can be seen in a blue cardigan as part of her costume, berating the drummer and gesticulating at the nearby theatre where, it can be surmised, she was struggling to be heard over the drums.

The Oscar-winning actress was happy to pose for photographs on Sunday, wearing a customised T-shirt that promoted As One In The Park, a new Lgbt festival to be held in Victoria Park over the next May Bank Holiday.

Dame Helen can see the funny side now

But the back of her top referred to her tirade against...

We all know that cool guys don't look at explosions, but now we have video proof that hipsters don't look at fireworks, especially when they are once-in-a-lifetime epic Olympic Games opening ceremony fireworks. Far too mainstream, obviously. Sydney hipster ambassadors Dom Nader and Adrian Archer have travelled to London for the Olympics, and if this first video from their travels is any judge, they will be sampling the party scene much more than the sports. With Adrian off having a coffee enema detox after his massive coke bender on Friday, I spoke to Dom on the phonesy who explained why they didn't remember much of the ceremony. "We walked past Victoria Park and Haggerston Park, where 'the man' had some free Olympic screens set up, but they were totes packed...

Frontman Alex Kapranos said in a statement: "I'm looking forward to Field Day this coming summer. I've been the last couple of years and the line-up's always been excellent. Lovebox music festival 2012 confirms earlier dates
Victoria Park at the 45th annual E! People's Choice Awards
Lovebox music festival has confirmed that it will take place earlier in the year in 2012. The music event will be held at London's Victoria Park between June 15-17 for one year only, moving from its usual slot of mid-July. Although no specific reason has been given for the move, it is presumed that the organisers were keen to avoid a clash with the London 2012 Olympics in East London. However, the event's bosses have promised another year of superstar headliners and the best emerging talent to grace the festival's stages. The full lineup for Lovebox, (more)...

Snoop Dogg in 90210 (2008)
Snoop Dogg performed hits from his debut album Doggystyle at Lovebox last night. The Us rapper performed the tracks as part of his headline set at the music event, which is being held in London's Victoria Park. Snoop played an array of songs from his 1994 critically-acclaimed debut, including 'What's My Name' and 'W Balls'. However, the 39-year-old hip-hop artist managed to squeeze in some of his more recent hits, such as his remix of 50 Cent's 2003 hit 'P.I.M.P.'. Addressing the packed-out main stage area, Snoop exclaimed: "Where are the ladies? I've got something special for y'all. I've got something for all you fellas too. Katy B, Fenech-Soler play London's Lovebox
Victoria Park at the 45th annual E! People's Choice Awards
Katy B and Fenech-Soler played a string of hits during their sets at this year's Lovebox music festival. Both acts battled erratic downpours to entertain festival-goers at the event, which is currently taking place in London's Victoria Park. Fenech-Soler took to the main stage to perform a number of tracks from their 2010 self-titled debut, including 'Demons' and 'Lies'. The Northamptonshire four-piece concluded their set with recent single 'Stop and Stare', with frontman Ben Duffy telling the crowd: "We've only got a half an hour so this is going to be our final song - you may recognise it." Although the sky was overcast with cloud, the crowd cheered when outbreaks of sunshine occurred. However, Katy B did not experience the same luck weather-wise for her performance. Taking to the main stage after Fenech-Soler, the (more)...
