After more than 55 years working in broadcasting and communications, Jerald Fritz is ready to retire.

On Monday, Sinclair, Inc. said the leader known to his friends and colleagues as Jerry will step down from his role as executive vice president of strategic and legal affairs at the company’s subsidiary One Media, which is focused on building out and marketing the next-generation digital broadcasting platform called NextGen TV.

“No one knows broadcast television better than Jerry. He brings a unique blend of legal expertise, policy know-how, and technical facility that has made him instrumental in the industry’s advancement of Atsc 3.0,” Patrick McFadden, the Senior Vice President of Global Public Policy and Communications at Sinclair, said in a statement on Monday. Atsc 3.0 refers to the digital broadcast technology at the core of NextGen TV, which unifies traditional over-the-air television with encryption, Internet streams and other features.

It’s always intense when thriller films play their suspense in real time.

In Justin McConnell’s Broken Mile, it presents a real-time visceral single-take thriller about a drug addict who awakens to find the woman he is with is dead and must rush to escape the consequences. He enlists his strong-willed ex-girlfriend and tries to avoid a confrontation of a mysterious gun-toting figure who is chasing him.

The film stars Francesco Filice, Caleigh Le Grand and Patrick McFadden.

Broken Mile premiered earlier with a limited theatrical release in Toronto, Portland and San Diego. It is now released on VOD, Digital Download, DVD and Blu-ray today.

Exclusive: Broken Mile Release Dates and Poster
Director Justin McConnell’s single-take thriller Broken Mile will have its international theatrical release in Toronto on July 28 and then expanding into Us cinemas starting in Portland on August 4 and San Diego on August 8. More dates and cities will be announced later.

Broken Mile is a real-time single unbroken take film that follows a drug-addict (Francesco Filice) who awakens to find the women he is with dead, and must rush to escape the consequences. Along the way, he enlists the help of his strong-willed ex-girlfriend (Caleigh Le Grand) and avoids confrontation with a gun-toting figure chasing him (Patrick McFadden).

After its theatrical release, Broken Mile will be available on VOD, Digital Download, DVD and Blu-ray on August 15. Indiecan Entertainment will be distributing in Canada and Gravitas Ventures will release it in the States.

Exclusive: Justin McConnell’s feature world premiered at the Whistler Film Festival in Canada.

Gravitas Ventures has acquired director Justin McConnell’s single-take thriller Broken Mile for Us release this summer.

The film had its world premiere at last year’s Whistler Film Festival in British Columbia, Canada under its original title Red Mile and will soon screen in Toronto at the Canadian Film Festival in late March.

Broken Mile is told in real-time and presented as a single unbroken take. The film follows a drug addict (Francesco Filice) who awakens to find the woman he is with dead, and must rush to escape the consequences.

Along the way he enlists the help of his strong-willed ex-girlfriend (Caleigh Le Grand), and avoids confrontation with the gun-toting figure chasing him (Patrick McFadden).

Exclusive: 79th & Broadway to represent Us rights and Apl Film to handle international sales of Justin McConnell’s thriller.

Andrew van den Houten’s 79th & Broadway Entertainment and Apl Film have joined forces to sell worldwide rights to Justin McConnell’s thriller Red Mile at Afm.

The film, told in real time and presented as a single take, follows a drug addict who wakes up next to a dead woman and must escape the consequences.

McConnell’s Toronto-based Unstable Ground is producing Red Mile in association with Pasha Patriki’s 9 Light Entertainment of Toronto and van den Houten’s New York-based 79th & Broadway Entertainment.

79th & Broadway Entertainment will represent Us rights and Apl Film handles international sales.

The film has just landed a world premiere slot at the Whistler Film Festival in Canada and stars Francesco Filice, Caleigh Le Grand and Patrick McFadden.

For the first twenty minutes of writer/director Trevor Juras’ first feature, The Interior, viewers can be forgiven for thinking they’re watching a Joe Swanberg mumblecore comedy, which isn’t a bad thing in and of itself – if you’re into that kind of thing.

It’s always refreshing to see a filmmaker try something new with the horror genre even if the full package isn’t wholly unique. Enter The Interior, a low-key first feature from Canadian filmmaker Trevor Juras that is split into two very distinct acts.

Set in Toronto, the first act plays like a standard mumblecore comedy about a man in arrested development. We meet James (played by newcomer Patrick McFadden), a frustrated young man who should be happy with his life but remains chronically depressed. James smokes a few joints, records a rap track, loses his job and receives a distressing medical diagnosis when visiting his doctor.
