This summer, the brand reputation of DC Comics on the big screen will hopefully be rehabilitated with the release of James Gunn's "Superman." The film is the first big screen entry in the new Dcu, and will set the foundation for what's to come, after a decade of constant hit-or-miss projects from the now-defunct DC Extended Universe (Dceu). The Dceu kicked off in 2013 with Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel," and in the years following that film's release, this shared universe struggled significantly due to inconsistent quality amongst its releases. Perhaps the worst Dceu film comes in the form of "Suicide Squad," which hit theaters in 2016, just a couple of months after "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" released to negative critical reception and polarized responses from audiences.

New York University has revealed its 2025 picks for its Black List-inspired Purple List of the best production-ready screenplays from Tisch School of the Arts graduate film students and recent alumni.

Internet icon Benito Skinner Aka Benny Drama is making his TV debut with semi-autobiographical comedy series “Overcompensating.”

Skinner writes, executive produces, and stars in the college-set Prime Video series that boasts a who’s who of legendary co-stars. Netflix has acquired the worldwide distribution rights to Good Sex, a romantic comedy starring Natalie Portman and directed by Lena Dunham. The streaming platform outbid Warner Bros., Apple, and Amazon, securing the project for approximately $55 million.

The NYU Production Lab’s flagship creative incubator, the Feature Film Development Studio, has announced its class of 2025.

The cohort-based program works with NYU grad students and alumni to develop their first features. And the program alums are some of the leading creatives today: Chloé Zhao, Cathy Yan, and Elegance Bratton all were part of the Production Lab.

IndieWire can now unveil the new fellows for the 2025 cohort, along with the six selected projects. Each creative team include the writers, producers, and directors of the film; at least one member of the project must be a student or graduate of New York University’s film programs.

The “Brat” pop star will produce the film as the first project under her new production company, Studio365. Plot details are kept under wraps.

“The Moment” is the feature directorial debut of Scottish photographer and filmmaker Aidan Zamiri, who wrote the screenplay with Bertie Brandes. Charli’s longtime collaborator A. G. Cook, a producer whose fingerprints are all over “Brat,” will compose the score.

David Hinojosa is also producing “The Moment” via his production banner 2Am. Brandon Creed, Mikey Schwartz-Wright and Zach Nutman will serve as executive producers. A24 is handling the global release of the film.
