Forget Clickers — the real terror for The Last of Us fans is seeing their favorite episodes ranked low on best-of lists.
Based on the beloved video game, HBO's zombie apocalypse drama follows Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) as they struggle to survive in a world full of zombie-like creatures who were transformed after a mass fungal infection. To date, 16 episodes have aired — nine in Season 1 (2023) and seven in Season 2 (2025) — and a third season has been ordered. While most of the episodes wowed viewers, some had fans reaching for their remotes. Scroll through our gallery below to see The Last of Us episodes ranked worst to best.
Some of the human characters Joel and Ellie meet along the way include Tommy (Gabriel Luna), Joel's younger brother; Tess (Anna Torv), Joel's initial partner; Riley (Storm Reid), Ellie's childhood best friend; Bill (Nick Offerman) and Frank (Murray Bartlett), gay survivalists who...

Coming off their acclaimed turn as Ellie in the second season of HBO's The Last of Us, Bella Ramsey is reportedly being eyed for a Marvel Studios role.
Though this should only be viewed as a rumor for the time being, scooper Mttsh is claiming that Marvel is interested in signing Ramsey for a "big role" in an upcoming project. This obviously covers a lot of ground and even more potential characters, and it's entirely possible that Kevin Feige and co. simply have the highly in-demand actor on their radar.
Ramsey might well have taken a meeting (or two), but Marvel meets with a lot of talent, often without any specific role in mind.
That said, there are some major MCU movies on the horizon, and - assuming this is accurate - we can't help but wonder if Ramsey might be in line for a role in the upcoming X-Men reboot.

The second season of The Last of Us is over! With a while to wait before season 3, how do the episodes stack up? We rank every episode put out so far, worst to best:
Photograph by Liane Hentscher/HBO | The Last of Us 16. Season 1, Episode 4, "Please Hold To My Hand"
I don't think there are any truly bad episodes of The Last of Us, at least not yet. HBO has put a lot of care and time into this grand zombie drama, and it pays off.
There are some episodes that are a bit on the boring side, particularly when they need to set up future events. Such is the case with "Please Hold To My Hand."
The first season is a road trip as Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) make their way across the zombie-ridden American countryside to reach safety. "Please Hold To My Hand" takes them...

The journey of Joel and Ellie continues in “The Last of Us” Season 2 on HBO and Max.
The second season of the video game adaptation takes place five years after the events of the Season 1 finale. Audiences will remember we last saw Joel make the difficult decision to stop the Fireflies from performing surgery on Ellie, preventing the group from using her immunity to make a vaccine in the hopes of saving humanity from the Cordyceps virus that has transformed the world into a zombie-filled wasteland.
Season 2, which follows the events of the video game’s 2020 sequel “The Last of Us: Part II,” will see the effects of Joel’s decision play out as he and Ellie are drawn into a conflict with both each other and a world that’s even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left. The season will be seven episodes long.

Footage from this Sunday's season 2 finale of The Last of Us has leaked online, and fans have been reacting to what appears to be at least one significant change to how these events play out in the Naughty Dog video game, The Last of Us Part II.
We're not sure if the entire episode was posted at any point, but the finale was made available early to people who bought the season pass for the show through Apple. The episode - reportedly titled "Convergence" - was quickly removed ahead of the intended May 25 broadcast date, but not before clips began to circulate on social media.
Spoilers follow.
It looks like the finale is going to cover Ellie picking off the rest of Abby's friends and Abby arriving to the abandoned theater where Ellie, Dina, Jesse and Tommy are holed up to exact her revenge. In the game, Abby kills Jesse...

Season 2 of The Last of Us concludes next Sunday, and HBO has now shared a series of new promo stills and two clips teasing what's to come in what promises to be an eventful and intense episode.
Spoilers for previous episodes and (potentially) the finale follow.
The penultimate episode, "The Price," consisted of a series of flashbacks to Joel and Ellie's life in Jackson prior to the former's death at the hands of Abby. We learned that Ellie did speak to Joel on his porch the night of the New Year's Eve dance, telling him that she would "like to try" to forgive him for his murderous actions in Salt Lake City back in the season 1 finale.
We are now building to a face-off between Ellie and Abby, but will we see it this Sunday? Without giving too much away for anyone who hasn't played the video game, there...

The Last Of US Season 2, Episode 5 Teaser Finally Introduces A Terrifying Threat From The Video Game
In this week's episode of The Last of Us season 2, "Day One," Ellie and Dina narrowly escape from a horde of infected, with Ellie taking a bite in the arm in order to protect the woman she loves.
Of course, Dina had been kept in the dark about Ellie's immunity, and was fully prepared to shoot her in the head to prevent her from becoming a ravenous killer. Fortunately, Ellie is able to convince Dina that she will not turn, and the latter expresses her relief by first telling Ellie that she is pregnant with Jesse's child, and then instigating their first roll in the hay.
The episode also featured a recreation of what has become almost an iconic moment from the game, as Ellie plays a rendition of Ah-ha's "Take On Me" for Dina after discovering a guitar in a run-down music shop.
"[In the show], it's like, I'm fully embracing not...

The Last Of US Season 2, Episode 4 Teaser Features Isaac's Debut... And Dina Pulling A Gun On Ellie!
As The Last of Us season 2 continues, Ellie (Bella Ramsey) must walk "The Path" for the first time in over five years without Joel Miller (Pedro Pascal).
In this week's episode, Ellie and Dina (Isabela Merced) decide to set off to Seattle to track down and execute Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) - and any of her allies that happen to get in their way - as revenge for her murder of Joel in "Through the Valley," but they vastly underestimate the size of the force that awaits them.
In the final shot, we see an entire army of Wlf (or "Wolves") soldiers patrolling the streets as Ellie and Dina approach the city on horseback.
Now, HBO has released a preview for next Sunday's episode, and in introduces the man who leads the Wlf, Isaac (Jeffrey Wright), in their war against Fedra (Federal Disaster Response Agency) and, more pertinently for this particular story,...

Much has been made about The White Lotus' domination in the acting categories at the Emmys. It received eight nominations for Season 1 in limited in 2022 and improved to nine for Season 2 in drama in 2023. You know what other show got nine acting nominations that year? The Last of Us.
It was easy for the dystopian drama's haul to be overshadowed that year between The White Lotus' increase even with the genre switch and Succession matching its own record of 14 nominations in one year for its final season. But few, if anyone, saw the Last of Us coming in acting. It was "only" predicted to snag six acting bids in Gold Derby's odds. And now for Season 2, it can do even better.
What was notable about The Last of Us' nine nominations was that the show achieved it without any supporting players. Season 1 was a very guest-forward installment, and the nominations...

The Last of Us really went there in the show's latest episode, which delivered what could be the biggest shocker of the series up to this point. This has brought about a polarizing response from viewers, though the episode has nevertheless reached a new high on IMDb following its premiere.
Currently, the second episode of Season 2, titled "Through the Valley," has a score of 9.5 on IMDb. This officially marks the highest score for an episode of The Last of Us on the website. The record was previously held at 9.4 by "Endure and Survive," the fifth episode of Season 1, which focused on Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) agreeing to escape Kansas City with Henry (Lamar Johnson) and Sam (Keivonn Montreal Woodard). That episode wound up winning a Creative Arts Emmy Award for its picture editing along with acting nods for Johnson, Woodard, and Melanie Lynskey, who played Kathleen.

"Slowly. When we kill him, we kill him slowly."
As character introductions go, it doesn't get much more unnerving than Abby Anderson's debut in last night's season 2 premiere of The Last of Us. In a change to the Naughty Dog video game that's proven to be somewhat divisive, the show immediately explains why Abby is seeking revenge against the man who killed her father in the season 1 finale, Joel Miller.
Abby convinces her friends to help her track Joel down, but they decide to investigate a new faction (who will turn out to be the Washington Liberation Front/Wlf) first, and we don't see them again until the closing moments of "Future Days" when Abby's crew arrives to the outskirts of the Jackson settlement.

Season 2 of The Last of Us premiered last night, and HBO has now released a new weeks ahead trailer spotlighting some of the major events to come.
Spoilers follow.

In a significant change to the Naughty Dog video game, we learn Abby's motivations for seeking revenge against Joel immediately.
Abby convinces her friends and fellow Fireflies to help her track Joel down, but all she has is his first name and vague description to go on.
We then jump forward five years, with Joel and Ellie fully settled into a relatively peaceful life in Jackson. Ellie is barely speaking to Joel after finding out the truth about what happened the day he saved her from the Fireflies.

“There are just some things, everyone agrees, that are just fucking wrong.”
Said with the conviction of someone who’s never questioned their code of ethics, yet at a time when an impartial observer may wonder how a functioning moral compass could guide anyone to such a calamitous moment, the above line is both a glaring signpost and a savvy misdirect. It’s simple enough, broad enough, and direct enough to go along with: Surely, dear readers, you can think of an action or opinion that everyone would agree is wrong. But within the fabricated world of “The Last of Us” as well as our own slightly less dystopian reality, people are routinely surprised to discover disagreement where they thought none to be. Season 1 provides examples aplenty, and the same goes for our daily, discouraging headlines.

HBO recently debuted an intense full trailer for the second season of The Last of Us, and we now have a new poster and some promo stills to go with it.
The key art features returning protagonists Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey), while the images spotlight several supporting characters as well as the season's new antagonist, Abby (Kaitlyn Dever).
Abby Anderson might well go down as one of the most despised video game characters in history (you'll find out why soon enough), and Dever was fully aware that taking on the role would open the door to a certain amount of backlash.

This post contains spoilers for "Your Honor."
"Your Honor" wasn't quite the hit that star Bryan Cranston's previous drama series, "Breaking Bad," was. But when your drama series is on Showtime (now Paramount+ with Showtime), it's at somewhat of a disadvantage in terms of its reach — which is why the excellent, savage satire that was "The Curse" never got the support it deserved. Luckily, after the series wrapped up in 2023, "Your Honor" got a Netflix boost when it hit the streamer back in July 2024, making it a much more widely-viewed show than it ever was before.
That's a good thing, too. As widowed New Orleans judge Michael Desiato, Cranston was characteristically brilliant, delivering an arresting performance that demanded a lot from the actor as he rendered the Judge's transformation from morally upstanding citizen to compromised criminal. After his own son, Adam (Hunter Doohan), admits to killing a young man...

Kurt Sutter’s latest project, The Abandons, has already got fans buzzing with excitement and speculation. Since the success of Sons of Anarchy, Sutter has built a reputation for creating gritty worlds full of outcasts and violence, and his new Netflix Western appears no different. Set in 1850s Oregon, The Abandons might seem like a shift from his outlaw biker tales. However, there are several hints that the show could be more connected to Sutter’s previous work than initially thought. It could be a hidden prequel to Sons of Anarchy.
The Abandons follows a group of outcast families fighting against corrupt enemies in a lawless landscape. Sound familiar? While not much has been released about the show, that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating that The Abandons will offer a backstory to Samcro's origins and the Teller family at the center of it all. The Last of Us Part II was so unforgiving that it divided the fan base in the aftermath. Neil Druckmann says the TV adaptation will feature a violent scene scrapped from the original game's final cut.
Showrunner Neil Druckmann says The Last of Us fans will be shocked by the continuing TV adaptation. Those who've played the games might be desensitized to the violence, but the show will feature one scene fans will appreciate. "[It's] pretty brutal, but I'm very excited for people to see it," he told Entertainment Weekly. The Last of Us Part II was a controversial sequel to the acclaimed 2013 game; creator Neil Druckmann said the backlash they received was "borderline traumatic". He's adopting the same creative approach with the TV adaptation, confident that the risks would pay off in the long-term.
Neil Druckmann will expand The Last of Us' story beyond Season 3. He even mused over the potential of developing spinoffs. "We have a plan," he told Entertainment Weekly. "We know what we need to do going forward, but we couldn't tell you right now exactly how many episodes or how many seasons it would take to get there." Fans can only speculate about the adaptation, which has yet to catch up to the 2020 video game's storyline. Kaitlyn Dever might not match Abby's bicep size in The Last of Us, but Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin believe her acting more than makes up for it.
In an exclusive profile with Entertainment Weekly, the showrunners discussed adapting Season 2 from the acclaimed yet controversial video game sequel The Last of Us Part II and what about its story needed to be changed for adaptation purposes. "There's not as much violent action moment to moment. It's more about the drama. I'm not saying there's no action here. It's just, again, different priorities and how you approach it," Druckmann said, feeling this ties into live-action Abby not being as jacked as her game counterpart.

New details about The Last of Us Season 2 have been revealed via a new exclusive report from Entertainment Weekly, who sat down with the show's creators to discuss what fans can expect when the new episodes start airing in April. Among the discussions about the story and characters was the news that cut content from the video game the second season is based on will be featured in the show. This new content will also be sure to be plenty dark and intense, which is in line with the overall more nihilistic tone of the video game sequel.
While the first season covered the entirety of the story of the original Last of Us game released in 2013, Season 2 of the show will only partially cover The Last of Us Part II, the controversial follow-up released on the PS4 in 2020. While The Last of Usshow creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann have already been open about how season two of the HBO drama will deviate from the source material, there is one very visible change that hasn't really been mentioned yet. Many fans of the ground-breaking games that inspired one of audiences' favorite HBO dramas starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey quickly picked up on a disparity from the game in the form of a new character, Abby. The important role is being played by No One Will Save You actress Kaitlyn Dever, and fans can't help but notice the difference in her smaller stature versus Abby's video game model's jacked figure.
However, Druckmann recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly as the show gears up for its season 2 release, clearing the air and hopefully dispelling some worries surrounding Dever's performance. As co-creator and writer of the games that started it all,...

The Last of Us season 1, episode 5, "Endure and Survive" picks up right where the previous episode left off, and the action doesn't stop until the credits roll. In The Last of Us, season 1, episode 4, "Please Hold to My Hand", the formerly Fedra-occupied city of Kansas City, Missouri is introduced alongside one of the most important new characters introduced in the show, Kathleen (Melanie Lynskey). Kathleen is the iron-fisted leader of the "new" Kansas City. She and her brother liberated the city from a corrupt and dictatorial Fedra only recently.
However, what they replaced it with does not seem to be all that much better, and Kathleen's idealism for equality seems to have been lost in her bloodthirsty quest for revenge. Number one on her hit list is someone named Henry, who betrayed the rebels, leading to her brother's death. The audience isn't introduced to Henry until the final moments of the episode,...

HBO's The Last of Us introduced us to a completely distinct kind of zombie story, explaining the root cause of the outbreak at the very beginning. Starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, the series takes place twenty years after a fungus infection turns the majority of the world's population into zombies. Joel Miller, who helps out the resistance, the Fireflies, in exchange for certain favors, comes across a teenage girl named Ellie, whom he must accompany beyond the city. However, she just might be holding the key to ending the pandemic once and for all.
Whether you're a dedicated fan of the original games or a newcomer to the HBO series, the origin of the infection can feel elusive since the details mostly unfold in the background. While the show slowly unravels the mystery with each episode, some parts of the Cordyceps Infection remain difficult to understand. So, how exactly...

Deadline reports that Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter has exited The Abandons just three weeks before production on the first season of the Netflix series was slated to wrap. As always, the reason apparently comes down to those dreaded creative differences.
The report states that Netflix was concerned when the initial cut of the first episode came in at 1 hour and 40 minutes. It proved impossible to trim the episode down to an hour, so they decided it should be split into two. This required some additional scenes to create a cliffhanger for the new premiere, which have reportedly been written but not shot. After viewing the unfinished split episodes and part of the third, Netflix felt they “looked a bit disjointed and not propulsive enough.” A meeting between Netflix execs and Sutter to address the concerns didn’t take place before he departed.

Kurt Sutter has left his new Netflix show, according to multiple media reports. The showrunner best known for creating “Sons of Anarchy” departed “The Abandons” three weeks before production was scheduled to wrap in Calgary.
The upcoming Western drama stars Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson. Its executive producer and director Otto Bathurst as well as its co-exec producer Rob Askins will oversee the rest of the shoot. No new showrunner has been named. It’s been reported that the departure came down to creative differences.
TheWrap reached out to Netflix and representatives for Sutter for comment.
Set in the 1850s, “The Abandons” follows Fiona Nolan (Headey), a devout Irish woman who is incapable of conceiving a child. Believing in a higher purpose, she tries to build a family by adopting four orphans. But it isn’t long before she begins to face hardship after European aristocrats claim possession of her new home in Oregon.

Kurt Sutter has departed his upcoming Netflix Western series “The Abandons” just weeks before production on the series is scheduled to end, Variety has confirmed with sources.
“The Abandons” went into production in Calgary, Alberta, Canada back in May and is scheduled to wrap in mid-October. Sutter created the series and also served as executive producer and showrunner. It was originally ordered to series at Netflix in October 2022 and was first reported to be in development at the streaming giant back in November 2021.

Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann have confirmed that Season 2 of The Last of Us will feature similar changes to the source material as Season 1. The first season of HBO's hit adaptation was adored by critics and general audiences, as well as fans of the video games. The series ripped entire scenes and sequences right out of Naughty Dog Studio's beloved franchise of the same name, and has been called one of the most faithful video game adaptations so far. Surprisingly, Season 1 received even more praise for the changes it made to the source material. Though it didn't cut major characters or needlessly alter character details, Season 1 took underdeveloped characters from the video game and gave them a new life on TV. According to Mazin and Druckmann, Season 2 will do exactly the same.

The Last of Us creator Neil Druckmann has hyped up a season 2 change to the original game, offering a new experience for those familiar with the upcoming storyline. The Last of Us season 2 will be adapting parts of 2020s The Last of Us Part II, which takes place four years after the events of the original game. The TV series will likely adapt core elements of the game, including the aftermath of Joel (Pedro Pascal) rescuing Ellie (Bella Ramsey) from the Fireflies, who intended to kill her in hopes of making a cure for the Cordyceps mutation.
Speaking with Variety, Druckmann confirmed The Last of Us season 2 will include a major scene that offers deeper backstory for an important character than the video game series provided. The creator explains how he wants the series to compliment the games, citing changes made to Bill's (Nick Offerman) story in season 1. While he...

Sorry everyone, but your daymares of living in the world of The Last of Us probably won't come true anytime soon, as a microbiologist has debunked the "science" that made the show's zombie virus happen. Unlike other zombie-centric movies and shows, which either see the dead rising out of graves or various different diseases giving dead people a hunger for brains, The Last of Us takes a naturopathic approach to its outbreak. Cordyceps, a real fungus, has mutated and can now infect humans, turning them into biting corpses, and eventually, the dreaded clickers (after their entire bodies have become entrenched in fungus).
Speaking to Wired, microbiologist Dan Buckley was asked about the zombie virus in The Last of Us and explained how a zombie virus could actually happen. While cordyceps exists in real life, the chances of it ever infecting humans are almost impossible. "The clickers that you saw where...

Fans of The Last of Us could be venturing back into HBO's fungus-filled world much sooner than anticipated. Based on the acclaimed video game franchise of the same name (Produced by Naughty Dog studios), The Last of Us explores the remnants of human civilization over a decade after a fungal zombie outbreak. Following Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey), the show follows their journey across the decimated country, as Ellie could be the cure for the infection. Season 2 is one of the most-anticipated upcoming shows (especially because of the controversial second video game), and fans are desperate to know when Joel and Ellie will return to our screens.
"[They will premiere around] generally first half of [2025]," Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, told Deadline at this year's Emmys. HBO had few shows in contention at this year's awards, with FX sweeping the major categories. However, 2025 could be HBO's year once again,...

"Passionate" is definitely a good word to describe video game fans, but there are always some who take their love of a beloved gaming franchise too far. Production on The Last of Us Season 2 is nearly complete, but the shoot hit a bit of a road bump when Kaitlyn Dever (who plays Abby in Season 2) had to hire extra security to protect her from those "passionate" fans. Following on from HBO's hit first season of The Last of Us, Season 2 will take a jump forward in time, with some new faces joining Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey in the fungal-infected wasteland. One new actor is Kaitlyn Dever, who's portraying one of the most hated characters from The Last of Us Part II.

HBO/Max has released the first official teaser for the second season of The Last of Us, and in addition to featuring some shots that should be very familiar to fans of the second video game, it gives us a first look at several new characters, including Jeffrey Wright as the villainous Isaac and Kaitlyn Dever as Abby Anderson.
We only catch a couple of brief glimpses of the young woman who will go on to become Ellie's (Bella Ramsey) nemesis, but the shots of Abby crawling through the snow while infected attempt to get tear through a chain-link fence suggests that season 2 will stick pretty close to the game when it comes to certain events.
We also see Joel (Pedro Pascal) being asked if he hurt Ellie in season 1 by Catherine O'Hara's (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice) mysterious character, to which he tearfully replies, "no... I saved her."
