John Legend said he’s “always respected” Taylor Swift for being “willing to take that risk” in openly sharing her political views.
The Egot winner, who has been vocal about his support for Kamala Harris in the upcoming presidential election, recently told The Independent that he understands it’s more difficult for the pop superstar to speak out given her fanbase.
“It was always really difficult for Taylor to speak out for liberal and progressive candidates coming from the country music world, where the fanbase is a lot more conservative,” Legend said. “It was riskier for her to start speaking out about politics than it is for me. I always respected the fact that she was willing to take that risk.”
The singer-songwriter added that he thought Swift shared the “perfect statement” when she announced on social media earlier this week that she was endorsing Harris. “I’m voting for...

Pop superstar Taylor Swift took to Instagram Tuesday night to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential bid, potentially activating her army of Swifties to head to the polls in November.
“Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight,” she wrote in a lengthy post to her 283 million followers after the Harris vs. Donald Trump presidential debate. “If you haven’t already, now is a great time to do your research on the issues at hand and the stances these candidates take on the topics that matter to you the most. As a voter, I make sure to watch and read everything I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country.”
The highly influential artist continued, “Recently I was made aware that AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential run was posted to his site. It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation.
