Jason David Brown in Septic Man (2013)

Jason David Brown

[A Brew To A Kill] Septic Man and The Brown Note
I don’t believe in Karma. But there may be something to it. I’m sitting in my basement getting a whiff of my own shit while trying to write about a movie called Septic Man. Nothing like a good rain to get the sewer backed up. Ugh. Here’s hoping I can get power through this while holding my nose.

Water contamination in a small Canadian town forces an evacuation. That is when plumber Jack (Jason David Brown) is approached by a strange man (Julian Richings) who asks him to look into the cause. Years ago, Jack was able to fix a similar problem and received no recognition. After convincing his pregnant wife (Molly Dunsworth) to leave without him, he goes to investigate at the water treatment plant. Unfortunately for Jack he his trapped in a giant septic tank by metal mouthed, non talker, Lord Auch (Tim Burd) and...

Glasgow Frightfest: ‘The Hexecutioners’ Review
Stars: Liv Collins, Sarah Power, Timothy Burd, Ari Millen, Barry Flatman, Walter Borden, Boyd Banks, Tony Burgess, Jason David Brown, Matt Griffin | Written by Tony Burgess | Directed by Jesse Thomas Cook

It would seem, at least on paper, that the director of low-budget quasi-wrestling monster movie Monsters Brawl and the (literal) shit-monster movie Septic Man; teaming up the writer of the neo-classic Pontypool for a movie that encapsuates an American gothic vibe would not work. On the one hand you have someone’s whose work is filled with subtlety, on the other… shit-monster (and yes, I know Burgess also penned Septic Man)! Yet somehow, despite some lapses in judgement and a conclusion that falls off the cliff somewhat, The Hexecutioners really works.

From the offset, The Hexecutioners is completely overblown and overwrought. The film is scored like some kind of idiots guide to horror – queues hit all the notes that...

‘Septic Man’ DVD Review
Stars: Jason David Brown, Julian Richings, Robert Maillet, Molly Dunsworth, Timothy Burd, Stephen McHattie, Nicole G. Leier | Written by Tony Burgess | Directed by Jesse Thomas Cook

Some films are just crap, but Septic Man is literally about it. In the first few minutes you may get to see a lot of human waste, but if truth be told if the movie has a bigger problem than that… it may be slightly constipated.

Jack (Jason David Brown) is a sewage worker who is known to be good at his job. When government official Phil Prosser (Julian Richings) gives him an offer he can’t (or isn’t) allowed to refuse he finds himself investigating problems in the city water system which are leading to a plague of diseases, even death. When he finds the source though he finds himself trapped in the water treatment facility at the mercy of two strange brothers intent on killing him.

‘Ejecta’ DVD Review
Stars: Julian Richings, Adam Seybold, Lisa Houle, Mark Gibson, Justin Darmanin, Ry Barrett, Ari Millen, Cat Hostick, Tony Burgess, Jason David Brown, Matt Griffin | Written by Tony Burgess | Directed by Chad Archibald, Matt Wiele

Aliens can be annoying, especially with all the probing and implanting they seem to do. Ejecta features a character that shows just why this is the case, especially if the aliens use the victims head as a radio conductor for their conversations. When people who complain about such things are normally seen as crazy, what happens if they are telling the truth? Then you get a film like Ejecta.

Ejecta focuses on William Cassidy (Julian Richings) who at the beginning of the film is captured by an anonymous group wanting to know the truth about the aliens he says he has encountered. Watching footage found recorded by still missing Joe Sullivan (Adam Seybold) featuring the recent actions of the duo Dr.

"Septic Man" - It's One Crappy Job
Sneak Peek footage from director Jeese Thomas Cook's horror feature "Septic Man", starring Jason David Brown as a sewage worker who ends up transforming into a hideous mutant by way of toxic sewage:

"...'Jack' (Brown) is an average sewage worker who has been asked to investigate a water contamination in his hometown that has forced everyone else, including his pregnant wife 'Shelley' (Molly Dunsworth) to evacuate.

"Jack decides to investigate the local sewage plant but ends up getting trapped in a septic tank by 'Lord Auch' (Tim Burd) and his brother 'Giant' (Robert Maillet). They refuse to let Jack out despite his pleas and the toxic sewage eventually begins to transform Jack into the hideous mutant 'Septic Man'..."

Review: Septic Man
The first three minutes of director Jesse Thomas Cook’s transformative Septic Man is literally a disgusting mess, and that’s just the beginning of things to come. Though more serious and dour than the playful tag line may lead towards, that being Shit Just Got Surreal, Cook’s transfiguring man is a makeup effect to witness. Unfortunately, the film doesn’t exactly know where to go narratively or just how much fun it should have with the messy conditions.

Jack (Jason David Brown) is sewage worker living in a small, middle-class town that gets evacuated due to a health concern. The symptomatic assessment involves everything implied with the title of the film. Jack is confronted by a government employee who offers him a large sum of money to continue working in the infected area. Married and with his wife expecting, Jack accepts to ensure his family is taken care of.

Septic Man Movie Review
Septic Man (2013)
Title: Septic Man Director: Jesse Thomas Cook Starring: Jason David Brown, Molly Dunsworth, Julian Richings, Tim Burd, Robert Maillet, Stephen McHattie A film with a title as schlocky as “Septic Man” has… well, a certain potential, let’s be honest. And yet this willfully distasteful Canadian horror flick — which almost emits an unwholesome effluvia of human waste and other bodily fluids directly through the screen — is borderline incomprehensible and thoroughly unengaging throughout, lacking even in enough distinctive personality to make it worthwhile for self-flagellating fans of low-budget shock and gore. The film unfolds in a small town in Ontario, Canada, where an opening credits narration informs viewers that there’s something in the [ Read More ]

‘Septic Man’ Review: The Shit Hits the Man
The Canadian town of Collinwood is suffering a serious sanitation problem. Something has come along and gummed up the works. People are getting sick, evacuations are in order, death looms et cetera…basically, something stinks. In a situation as dire as this, when shit’s going down, there’s only one trusted name in the game and that is Septic Man. Jack (Jason David Brown) is thee titular septic man, a chap of few words with a rough edged can-do spirit. Earlier in his career he saved the town from suffering through shoddy infrastructure and prevented a whole bunch of crap from happening. If there’s a problem with the pipes, he’s the man of the hour. Jack is a reluctant fellow though. He has a kid on the way and a wife that just wants him to be home longer than he’s away. But they have bills to pay, responsibilities...

Septic Man (2013)
Director Jesse Thomas Cook talks his gross-out horror film 'Septic Man'
Septic Man (2013)
In the new Canadian horror movie Septic Man, Jason David Brown plays a sewage worker who falls into a septic tank and gradually mutates into a monstrous beastie. Brown won Best Actor in a Horror Film award at last year’s Fantastic Fest genre festival for his performance—but this gross-out film is not one to watch while you’re eating. Then again…

“At Fantastic Fest they actually handed out chocolate pudding in the middle of the screening,” recalls Septic Man director Jesse Thomas Cook. “It was a funny touch to see people eating chocolate pudding while Septic Man was knee-deep in the sewage.

Septic Man (2013)
Horror Flick Septic Man Has Plenty of Nonsense Mined for No Terror
Septic Man (2013)
Septic Man loves vomit above all other bodily fluids (though it loves those, too) -- fitting, considering its generally putrid quality. With a premise that recalls The Toxic Avenger but without an ounce of its smart superhero action or satire, Jesse Thomas Cook’s film follows septic expert Jack (Jason David Brown) as he’s paid by a mystery man (Julian Richings) to investigate his town’s horrid contaminated-water crisis. As citizens evacuate, including Jack’s pregnant wife (Molly Dunsworth), Jack goes to the local irrigation facility, falls in a hole, and finds that the problem is being caused by dead bodies that were dumped into the water system by chainsaw-wielding psycho Lord Auch (Tim Burd), who speaks in animalistic chir...

Holy Crap! Its the Opening to Septic Man
The opening scene to 'Septic Man' has been released on to the internet and it certainly does push the limits of gross-out comedy! The movie from the creators 'Exit Humanity' and 'Pontypool' will be unleashed on 15 August and looks to be doing as much as it possibly can to help bring your lunch up. The movie from director Jesse Thomas Cook and penned by Tony Burgess stars Jason David Brown, Molly Dunsworth, Robert Maillet, Tim Burd, Julian Richings ('Supernatural') and Stephen McHattie ('Watchmen'). Septic Man Review
If there’s ever been a film that made me feel like I needed a shower afterwards, it’s Jesse Thomas Cook’s Septic Man. Much like the tagline states, “It’s a crappy job,” but someone has to watch it, right? If you can get past all the pooping, vomiting, rotting and festering, a unique story influenced by Lloyd Kaufman’s Toxic Avenger model might break through the cloud of odoriferous unpleasantry, but weaker stomachs will struggle to keep their lunch down. The good thing is, your tolerance will be tested within mere seconds of the films opening, so if gross-out body horror isn’t your schtick, no time is wasted introducing the disgusting lengths Cook plunges in order to deliver the most realistic depiction of sanitation-gone-wrong possible. If you can’t stand the smell, get out of the bathroom – as quickly as possible.

Septic Man Looks Like the Grossest Movie Ever [Clip]
I wish I could say that I'm really looking forward to seeing Jesse Thomas Cook's Septic Man but truth of the matter is, the very concept of this movie, written by the great Tony Burgess (of Pontypool fame), grosses me out.

Jason David Brown stars as Jack, a sewage worker working hard to uncover what is causing the town's water contamination problem. While working, he's trapped in a septic tank with no food or water and undergoes a transformation.

Judging from what little I've seen of the movie (the new clip and trailer below), it looks like Jack turns into some shit-covered creature and quite frankly, I'm not sure I have the stomach for that. It may not be for me but I don't doubt that Septic Man is going to be a must see for many a fan of gross-out horror.

Watch the Opening Scene of Septic Man
Imagine the messiest bathroom you’ve ever seen. Now imagine it 100 times more disgusting and even then it probably doesn’t equal the horrendous confines of the restroom in the opening scene of Septic Man, due out later this month from Starz Digital Media. We have a clip featuring a bile-inducing bathroom that could be a plumber’s private hell.

“Septic Man follows Jack, a sewage worker who is determined to uncover the cause of the town’s water contamination crisis. During his investigation, he becomes trapped underground in a septic tank and undergoes a hideous transformation. He must team up with a docile Giant and confront a murdering madman in order to escape. Hailed as a “stunning” (Little Red Umbrella), “funny” (TwitchFilm), and “visceral story that will leave you shaken and desperate for a shower” (Rue Morgue Magazine), Septic Man is an odyssey into the darkest depths of gross-out horror.

Tadff 2013 Day 4: ‘Silent Retreat’, ‘Septic Man’, and ‘Motivational Growth’
Silent Retreat

Written by Corey Brown

Directed by Tricia Lee

Canada, 2013

Opting for a rehabilitation program over jail time, Janey (Chelsea Jenish) discovers the hidden ramifications of her choice when she arrives at an isolated camp, where she is told by the strict “doctor” (Robert Nolan) that she, and the other young women at the retreat, can’t talk to or interact with each other. Things are compounded when Janey discovers that people aren’t the only things that inhabit the area.

The idea of using extreme silent treatment to control and condition the young women to the doctor’s misogynistic standards is an interesting approach to attacking traditional gender roles and patriarchy (the place is run by the doctor and his two sons, a nice homage to A Clockwork Orange), but the way in which Silent Retreat goes about this is often heavy-handed and conspicuous. Also, for a story...

Fantastic Fest 2013: The Award Winners Have Been Announced
I’ve returned from Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas, but the festival keeps on running until the end of the day tomorrow, September 26. And, like any self-respecting festival, there have been awards announced for various films and the people involved in their creation. The only award I can say I had even a slight hand in was the Audience Award–ballots were handed out after each public screening over the first four days of the festival. Sadly, though, I can’t even say that my votes mattered, as the Audience Award winner was a film I sadly didn’t get a chance to see. It’s Jodorowsky’s Dune, a documentary about a film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s iconic sci-fi novel directed by Alejandro Jodorowsky. Of course, as we all know, that version never came to fruition, as the actual film was directed by David Lynch. But the story...

Monster Brawl

Stars: Dave Foley, Art Hindle, Robert Maillet, Jimmy Hart, Herb Dean, Kevin Nash, Lance Henriksen, Jason David Brown, Rj Skinner | Written and Directed by Jesse T. Cook

In fact Monster Brawl has (besides feeling like a Halloween episode of WWE Raw) a lot more in common with the Mexican luchador films of El Santo than anything Hollywood has ever produced.

Dedfest '11: Monster Brawl and Picking a Winner: A Movie Review
Director/writer: Jesse T. Cook.

Day two of Dedfest Victoria hosted Jesse T. Cook's Monster Brawl followed by Fulci's Zombie. Organizer Ira Hunter continued to give out the schwag in generous fashion. The film festival ended with a few more zombies in day two, with Monster Brawl offering a wide collection of fighting creatures. The characters were diverse, but this film is much like watching an episode of WWE on which the film is loosely based. Even actors from wrestling entertainment lampoon in the film e.g. Kevin Nash. Overall, this is a fun film; however, Monster Brawl suffers from some pacing issues and maybe even some plot holes.

This is a fighting tournament that has brought eight of the deadliest creatures together for a series of Deathmatches. You can choose who to root for amongst: zombie man (Rico Montana), frankenstein (Robert Maillet), werewolf (Rj Skinner), swamp gut (Jason David Brown...
