"I would never have done it, if I hadn't hated dances so much." Another whimsical short from animation filmmaker Elizabeth Hobbs, better known as Lizzy Hobbs (she also made the short film I'm Ok a few years ago). Her latest is titled The Debutante, a 9-minute animated short telling an amusing story of a woman in the 1930s. This short premiered at film festivals back in 2022 and has been tour the fest circuit ever since, finally getting an online debut this week thanks to Vimeo. A spirited young woman persuades a hyena from London Zoo to take her place at a dreaded dinner dance being held in her honour... The Debutante is based on a short story written by the artist Leonora Carrington, who was presented at the court of King George V then became a debutante in 1936. It's animated with ink & paint on paper, with some collage & cut-out, captured under a rostrum camera.

Addictive Netflix thriller You is finally back. And in Season 4, Charlotte Ritchie gets the unenviable honour of playing the latest obsession of creepy-yet-handsome, ‘I just can’t help falling in love with (and then probably killing) you’ Joe, aka Penn Badgley.
If you’re new to You, it’s the story of bookshop manager Joe Goldberg, who has a pathological tendency to develop dangerous infatuations with women, which usually end in lots of bloodshed and/or a prolonged stay in a plexiglass book vault. Most recently, he’s had a son, whom he was forced to abandon when escaping to a new life across the Atlantic after the nail-biting, catastrophic Series 3 finale.
These days, Joe goes by Professor Jonathan Moore, and is living it up in London town. Charlotte Ritchie’s character is savvy ice-queen and art gallery director Kate, part of a group of wealthy and privileged young Brits Joe gets tangled up with.

Like the one before it, 2021 was a year in which many of us saw more of our TVs than of our friends and loved ones. It was lucky then, that there was so bloody much of the stuff, despite the pandemic’s best efforts to shut it all down. They might have been delayed, they might have been curtailed, but they weren’t stopped. Returning British TV shows returned like spring lambs, gambolling over the horizon right into your living room.
There was comedy and drama, as well as crime thrillers by the lorryload, and sci-fi and fantasy coming by the… much smaller lorryload.
A Discovery of Witches Season 2 (January)
Based on Deborah Harkness’ All Souls trilogy about the forbidden love between a powerful witch and a centuries-old vampire, A Discovery Of Witches debuted on Sky in autumn 2018 (read our reviews here) and was renewed for series two and three almost straight away.

White House Farm is a dramatisation of the Jeremy Bamber story, a horrible case that saw the killing of five members of the same family including two children. The show came to ITV in 2020 in week by week episodes and has now arrived on Netflix in a full boxset. It’s a compelling look at what happened in 1985 at a remote farmhouse and the man who was convicted of the murders, as well as the dogged cop who wouldn’t settle for the obvious answer despite the negative impact it had on his career.
While elements of the story are fictionalised it’s a series which tries to capture the essence of the main players as well as the backdrop in 80s Britain which might have hampered justice being done. While parochial compared to massive scale Netflix docs like The Night Stalker: Hunt for a Serial Killer, this is still...

Peep Show, Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong’s long-running Channel 4 comedy about flatmates Mark and Jez, exposed a great comic truth. By letting us eavesdrop on its characters’ inner monologues, it showed us that we’re all idiots on the inside. Petty, vain, furious, paranoid, self-congratulatory yet self-hating at the same time… Just like Mark and Jez, we may pretend to know what we’re doing, but really, we’re all just few inevitable steps away from eating dog meat on a barge.
Series one of E4 gamer flatshare comedy Dead Pixels – created by Jon Brown and executive produced by Bain and Armstrong – was built on a similar truth minus the façade of normality. Its leads were just as entertainingly idiotic as Mark and Jez, but their shared gaming obsession with Mmorpg Kingdom Scrolls stripped them of any fitting-in pretence. Meg and Nicky (Alexa Davies and Will Merrick) were...

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again doesn’t need any real insightful introduction as it is, of course, the decade long-awaited follow up to the 2008 box office smash hit Mamma Mia, advertently coinciding with the tenth anniversary of the former that somewhat evokes a strange similarity to Linklaters ‘Before Trilogy’ in a sort of majestic operatic version of life and trials and tribulations, albeit far more melodramatic and dazzling in its imperfections.
Interestingly Ol Parker’s sequel takes a structural decision in the same vein as Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather: Part II, which is a sentence I truly never thought would exist in this world. It orchestrates itself a sequel to events of its predecessor,...

Tom Cruise’s latest, “Mission: Impossible — Fallout,” is on its way to a No. 1 debut at the North American box office with an estimated $59 million.
Should predictions hold, Paramount’s sixth installment of the franchise will finish on the upper end of recent forecasts, which ranged from $50 million to $65 million at 4,386 sites. It will come out ahead of its predecessor “Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation,” which debuted to $55 million in 2015, and also mark a franchise best. “Rogue Nation” went on to gross $682 million worldwide.
Christopher McQuarrie directed “Mission: Impossible — Fallout,” after having directed “Rogue Nation.” He also wrote the script for “Fallout.” The movie is produced and financed by Paramount and partner Skydance Productions, headed by David Ellison. Cruise is a producer along with McQuarrie, J.J. Abrams and Jake Myers. Exec producers are Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger.

Rest assured, everyone in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again can sing! The entire cast from 2008's Mamma Mia! is back for the Universal Pictures sequel, directed by Ol Parker; newcomers include Cher (as Ruby), Alexa Davies (as Young Rosie), Josh Dylan (as Young Bill), Andy García (as Fernando), Lily James (as Young Donna), Jessica Keenan Wynn (as Young Tanya), Jeremy Irvine (as Young Sam) and Hugh Skinner (as Young Harry). The first film turned Dominic Cooper into a movie star, but had director Phyllida Lloyd gone in a different direction, Chris Klein could have been cast—that is, if the actor could carry a tune. Years ago, Klein's admittedly "terrible" audition tape leaked, and before long, he became a...

Chicago – I give in. “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again,” the sequel to the much derided “Mamma Mia,” is a bubbly, frothy here-come-the-good-times musical that fits summer like a glove. The flashback format will also answer all the burning questions that were left unanswered from the first film, and the cast includes Cher!
Rating: 3.5/5.0
The film is set in the modern day and in a series of flashbacks to Donna’s (the Meryl Streep character) origins on that Greek Island… replete with the stereotypical Greek natives who seem trapped as villagers. It’s a star studded event, with returnees Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth and Stellan Starsgard, along with Amanda Seyfried, Christine Baranski and Julie Walters, joined by Lily Taylor as the Young Donna. In other words, it’s just like every other musical that has been ever been made! Except, like in the first film, it uses songs from the 1970s pop phenomenon Abba.

If you find yourself wilting under the oppressive heat of a summer’s day, you’ll need something airy and insubstantial to chase your cares away. And this summer Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is the movie most likely to sweep you up in its irresistible wake and leave a smile on your sweaty, sunburned face to boot.
The young, naive, newlywed Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) we left behind in 2008’s Mamma Mia has been replaced by a self-assured and independent woman. We join her in a time of contemplation as she prepares to open a revamped and refined Hotel Bella Donna. Stuffing envelopes and singing Thank You For the Music in poignant acknowledgement of her mom’s contribution to the big day.
Meanwhile another life is being lived in another place and time. A life lived in explosive colour, with infectious smiles and impetuous decisions. This is Donna’s...

Two of our favorite A-listers are together! Cher and Meryl Streep both attended the Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again premiere on Monday, July 16 and shared a smooch for fans of the hit movie. The actresses — who are co-stars in the hit film — kissed on the red carpet before posing with other members of the cast, Christina Baranski, Judy Cramer, Jessica Keenan Wynn, Alexa Davies, Amanda Seyfried, and Lily James. (Photo Credit: Getty Images) Funny enough in the film, Cher, 72, plays the mother of Meryl Streep, 69, even though they're only three years apart. "That doesn’t make any difference," Cher confessed to People of their age gap in a new interview. "I was thrilled to death, and it was so silly. It was great fun, and I love her, so it was perfect." The music mogul continued, "It was great, and she was hiding watching me sing, and I was so excited.

“Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again,” the perfectly titled sequel to “Mamma Mia!” (it opens 10 years to the week after the first film), kicks off on a bubbly high. It’s 1979, and Donna, the free-spirited expatriate-on-a-Greek-island innkeeper played by Meryl Streep, is now played, at the end of her Oxford undergraduate days, by Lily James, in honey-gold ringlets, with a smile that could light up several city blocks. She comes onstage to deliver a graduation speech, and instead tugs the gown off her shoulders to do an unexpectedly fiery rendition of “When I Kissed the Teacher.”
Ten years ago, in “Mamma Mia!,” most of the actors approached singing Abba songs as if they’d been given a free pass on karaoke night. Some belted, some crooned, some warbled, and even the great Streep kept declaiming the lyrics as if she thought every line of singing was supposed to be a line of acting.

Half sequel, half prequel, and almost entirely disconnected from the film being sold by its trailers, Ol Parker’s “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” is an amiable, energetic followup to the 2008 smash hit. It’s also missing its biggest star, Meryl Streep as Donna Sheridan, and her absence is keenly felt. Thank goodness then for Lily James, whose performance as a young version of Streep’s irrepressible heroine finally seems like the one to catapult the actress to the next level of her career, while also keeping the dizzy (and dizzying) musical afloat.
Set five years after the events of the first film, “Here We Go Again” returns to the picturesque Greek island of Kalokairi, where Donna’s daughter Sophie (a returning Amanda Seyfried) is attempting to make her mother’s long-running dreams of turning their rustic farmhouse into a glitzy hotel come true, though noticeably without the help...

Legendary Pictures has released the first trailer for the musical comedy Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, the sequel to the hit 2008 musical. If you enjoyed the first film, which was released ten years ago, then I'm sure you'll like what you see in this trailer for the sequel. Yeah, I know this movie isn't for everyone, but there are still a good amount of people that will enjoy it.
The sequel continues the story of Amanda Seyfried's Sophie, who finds herself pregnant. This event brings back Meryl Streep as Donna, Julie Walters as Rosie and Christine Baranski as Tanya to be by her side. The movie also tells the story of Steep's character when she was young, and that younger version of her is being played by Lily James (Baby Driver).
The movie also stars Dominic Cooper as Sky, Pierce Brosnan as Sam, Stellan Skarsgård as Bill, and Colin Firth as Harry.
