Fans of Freaky Friday shouldn't hold their breath when it comes to seeing one original franchise star making a cameo appearance in the sequel, Freaky Friday. Nisha Ganatra, the sequel's director, revealed how hard she tried to get the actor to return.

Long before Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis starred in the 2003 theatrical film, a young Jodie Foster launched the franchise as Annabel Andrews in the original Disney adaptation of Mary Rodgers' 1972 novel. Despite being the star that catapulted Freaky Friday to worldwide recognition, Foster doesn't seem to have any interest in returning. "We begged her," Ganatra told Entertainment Weekly. "She's not going to do it."

People went on to report how Ganatra had a plan ready for Foster to make a nostalgic cameo in Freakier Friday. "We were going to make her the principal at the school," the filmmaker explained. "Honestly, we tried everything." She also claimed that...

Exclusive: Monarch Media is adapting its Christian coming-of-age romance film A Week Away into a TV series starring Antonio Cipriano, Cozi Zuehlsdorff, David Koechner, Leigh-Allyn Baker, Sacha Carlson, Ava Jean, Haven Greene, Jason Marsden and Carlos PenaVega.

The series is set to be distributed by Angel Studios. Alan Powell, founding member of Christian rock group Anthem Lights and co-writer of the original film, has been tapped as the showrunner. He will also pen the series with Kali Bailey and Zuehlsdorff.

Similar to the film, which launched on Netflix in 2021, A Week Away: The Series follows a group of kids as they embark on a summer at Camp Aweegaway — a Christian camp filled with adventure, friendships, and unexpected self-discovery.

Production will take place at the same location as the original film, Nashville’s Camp Widjiwagan.

“A Week Away has been a very personal endeavor for me from the beginning,” said Powell.

Chad Michael Murray is open to returning to the Freaky Friday sequel and reprising his role of Jake alongside Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan.

In a new interview, the actor said he would like to be involved in the sequel film currently being developed by Disney.

“If Jake has a story to tell, I’d be there in a heartbeat,” Murray told E! News while promoting Mother of the Bride. “Are you kidding me? Just to watch Jamie and Lindsay, to go back to work… To watch all that energy that Jamie brings to set… Hollywood royalty, period.”

Murray said he “learned so much” from Curtis on the set of the 2003 film and added, “If I had the opportunity, I would just dial in.”

Lindsay Lohan’s iconic flick Freaky Friday is all set to get a modern reboot as the actress shared her excitement in a recent interview. Ever since its release in 2003, Freaky Friday has garnered cult classic status among the audience.

Rumors of a Freaky Friday sequel starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis have been circulating for years and it seems like a movie is finally happening.

While being interviewed on Andy Cohen’s SiriusXM show, Lohan confirmed that a follow-up to the 2003 film was in the works.

“I won’t say that yet. I don’t want to say too much,” Lohan told the host after he asked if there was a timeline for production to start on the film.

She added, “We are both excited. I’m gonna speak for Jamie.”

Lohan and Curtis have been open to starring in a sequel. Back in October 2022, Curtis was asked on The View if she would reprise her role opposite Lohan and said she was “creatively wide open” to do so.

Jamie Lee Curtis is open to the possibility of reprising her 2003 Freaky Friday role opposite Lindsay Lohan in a sequel.

While visiting The View to promote her new movie Halloween Ends, Curtis was asked by Sarah Haines if she would participate in a follow-up to the film that earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy.

“I’ve already written to Disney — my friends at Disney, I’m in their new Haunted Mansion movie,” she said on the ABC talk show.

“I’m 64 years old today — not today, soon, in a month or whatever. My point is I’m wide open, creatively I am wide open,” she added.

Curtis then pitched ideas on what her and Lohan’s characters could be doing in the possible sequel.

“Freaky Friday” first introduced its mother-daughter body-switching narrative as a novel by Mary Rodgers in 1972 and has since been adapted multiple times. At this point, crying out against remakes is a fruitless endeavor. No matter which version of a beloved property one may deem is the ultimate adaptation, another is bound to come along. It’s the nature of having an intriguing story with timeless themes, such as “Freaky Friday’s” parent-child dynamics.

What does matter, however, is the thought and quality put into updating the story. In the case of Disney Channel’s latest adaptation, dusting off “Freaky Friday” to reimagine it as a full-blown, Broadway-inflected musical is more than worth the effort thanks to its talented cast, infectious songs, and lively musical numbers.

If you just watched the premiere of Disney Channel’s Freaky Friday and thought star Heidi Blickenstaff looked right at home in the role of straight-laced Katherine Blake, it’s because she is.

Prior to being cast opposite Cozi Zuehlsdorff in the TV movie, Blickenstaff originated the role of Katherine in the stage production of Freaky Friday, which opened in Washington, D.C. in Oct. 2016. She and co-star Emma Hunton (soon to appear on Freeform’s Fosters spinoff Good Trouble) then brought the show to San Diego, Cleveland and Houston from Jan. to July 2017.

Disney knows a good thing when it sees it. The studio has adapted Mary Rodgers’ 1972 children’s novel “Freaky Friday” into a feature film three times, a stage musical once and now a TV movie for Disney Channel, premiering Aug. 10 at 8 p.m. Et/Pt.

And the company can identify a good team too. When Disney Theatrical Prods. developed the stage version in 2016, producers turned to the Pulitzer Prize- and Tony-winning composing team of Tom Kitt (music) and Brian Yorkey (lyrics). The book was written by Bridget Carpenter. Disney decided to keep the collaborators together for the TV adaptation.

“Tom and Brian are the perfect team for ‘Freaky Friday,’” says Thomas Schumacher, president and producer of Disney Theatrical. “Their connection to the Mary Rodgers novel was deep, and they’ve provided the show with a score that’s funny, moving and wise.”

Indeed, Kitt and Yorkey had been longtime fans of the material.

August 10 will be Freaky Friday for Disney Channel. The cable net has set that midsummer date for the premiere of its musical version of the classic mother-daughter body-swap.

Directed by Steve Carr, the latest take on Mary Rodgers’ classic book stars Heidi Blickenstaff, who played the mom role in the stage version, and Cozi Zuehlsdorff of the Dolphin Tale films as the bickering mother and daughter who both wish they could switch places with the other for a day. But be careful what you wish for: they magically wake up one freaky Friday in each other’s body and begin a journey of self-discovery and empathy neither one could have imagined.

Disney also made Freaky Friday theatrical features in 1976 starring Jodie Foster and Barbara Harris, and in 2003 with Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis. Its 1995 telefilm version starred Gaby Hoffmann and Shelley Long.

Vicetone have returned with a new single this week, teaming up with actress and vocalist Cozi Zuehlsdorff for their latest effort on “Nevada.” Zuehlsdorff first made a name for herself starring in the Dolphin Tale films, before kicking off a career as a singer. She previously collaborated with Monstercat artist Hellberg as well, so her presence on “Nevada” is not as unlikely as it may seem.

This movie was spectacular. Dolphin Tale 2 is about Sawyer (Nathan Gamble) and a dolphin named Winter, who became best friends in the first movie Dolphin Tale (2011). In DolphinTale 2, Winter isn’t the only dolphin anymore. We get to meet three new dolphins named Pamela, Hope, and Mandy. Oh and don’t forget Rufus, the craziest pelican in the world.

The movie starts off with Sawyer’s friend Hazel (Cozi Zuehlsdorff) working with Winter and Pamela at the Clearwater Marine Hospital. Sawyer is helping with the show and is in the water with Winter. And the coolest guest star ever, Bethany Hamilton (as herself), swims with Winter! Hamilton is the real-life surfer girl who lost an arm in a shark attack and inspired the movie Soul Surfer. If I were the one running Warner Bros, I must admit it would not have occurred to me to pursue the idea of a sequel to 2011's "Dolphin Tale". After all, the first film was the story of how a dolphin lost her tail in a crab trap, only to find her way to an aquarium and animal rescue facility in St. Petersburg, Florida, where she was eventually fitted with an innovative prosthetic. Story told, right? The sequel answers that question with a resounding no, and in doing so, it serves to highlight just how difficult it is for people, even with the best of intentions, to keep these animals in captivity and in good health at the same time. Chicago – They don’t come along often, the rare fun-for-the-whole-family film. But “Dolphin Tale 2” fits that description perfectly, throws in some idealistic symbolism, and more importantly follows those symbols through to the end.

Yes, this is “inspired by a true story,” yet it’s not too far off from the real circumstances – it’s simply a hyper-realized version of the story. The dolphin named Winter, as we learned from the first film, was found in a net with its tail cut off. The Marine Biology institute nursed it back to health, and created a prosthetic appendage – much like a artificial limb for humans – so Winter could frolic anew. “Dolphin Tale 2” is a continuation of this inspiration, and writer/director Charles Martin Smith imbues the story with symbols of transition, for both the dolphins and human beings. This follows through to a glorious conclusion, uplifting and amazingly probable.

Chicago – When sequels are made, they are rarely better than the original and often have different cast members. “Dolphin Tale 2” defies both of those conventions, and the returning cast delivers the goods – including Ashley Judd, Morgan Freeman, Harry Connick Jr., and the teenage actors Nathan Gamble and Cozi Zuehlsdorff.

Both 17-year-old actors are experienced veterans in show business, and both began when they were eight years old. The first “Dolphin Tale” film was Zuehlsdorff’s debut, and Gamble had his first movie role in the Best Picture Oscar nominated “Babel” in 2006. Let's face it. Of all the kid actors getting really cool experiences, Cozi Zuehlsdorff and Nathan Gamble have it the best as the stars of the Dolphin Tale movies. They get to spend their day swimming with and playing with real dolphins.

Distributors say there are multiple factors which compel them to send films straight to DVD and VoD, not least when titles bomb in the Us.

But the slashing of pay TV license fees for movies, rising marketing costs, the continued decline of the DVD market, the mainstream programming of chains such as Dendy and the proliferation of festivals and alternate content in cinemas are pushing many small to medium-size films out of cinemas.

Distributors calculate that it costs a minimum of $1.3 million to market a broad theatrical release, which means it will need to gross $4.5 million to break-even. Any less and the distributor loses money.

The first movie was based on actual event and made a ton of money, so what is this sequel doing you ask? Well, the guy who directed the first movie (Charles Martin Smith, who also directed Air Bud) is back directing and took over writing details – so he must have really liked him some Dolphin Tale. The movie also has Kris Kristofferson returning, pictured here.
