A beautiful young Black woman sits alone at a bar, waiting for her date to show. When he does, he orders for her, brays about his job in finance, objectifies her “caramel” skin, and later, tries to secretly film her – and worse.
On a different night out, a man tells the woman that she could be a model – not runway, but print – and that while he doesn’t usually go for Black girls, she’s the prettiest one there. She witnesses another man, whose mates are bellowing about taking girls “to pound town”, taking upskirt photos in a club. She makes a beeline for them all, and not because her dickhead radar is faulty but because it’s fully operational and when she gets these men into a dark corner… well, that would be telling.

The Downton Abbey star plays a believably sinister villain in an otherwise underwhelming tale of a judge with a horrific secret in his basement
There’s a believably devious turn from Hugh Bonneville at the centre of new hit-and-miss Netflix thriller I Came By, a film that sadly has very little else believable in it. He plays well-heeled former judge Hector Blake, who finds himself locked in a class-based battle of wills when socially conscious graffiti artist Toby (George MacKay) uncovers something nasty in his basement. Toby and friend Jay (Percelle Ascott) have gained notoriety in London for breaking into the homes of the rich and leaving the tag “I Came By”, but when Toby delves further into Hector’s home, he discovers something he’s unable to ignore. He calls the police but Hector’s connections and wealth make him an impossible target, leading the two into war.

The film stars the superbly talented George MacKay as Toby, Kelly Macdonald, Percelle Ascott, Varada Sethu, and Hugh Bonneville. It’s not unusual, in the world of Doctor Who, for the same actor to play more than one role on screen. From classic to modern Doctor Who, Nicholas Courtney, Ian Marter, Lalla Ward, Jaqueline Hill, Jean Marsh, Adjoa Andoh, Eve Myles, Naoko Mori, Vinette Robinson and more have all played multiple parts in the whoniverse. Before she debuted as companion Martha Jones, Freema Agyeman was a Torchwood employee who fell foul of the Cybermen in series two’s ‘Army of Ghosts’. Karen Gillan was a seer in series four episode ‘The Fires of Pompeii’ before she recurred as Eleven’s companion Amy Pond. Even the Doctor has had test runs. Colin Baker played a Gallifreyan commander in season twenty before taking over from Peter Davison. Peter Capaldi appeared in ‘The Fires of Pompeii’ as well as playing John Frobisher on Torchwood before taking up residence in the Tardis.

Youth-skewing British broadcaster E4 has struck a first-look development deal with the production team behind YouTube channel Wall of Comedy and stars of hit teen drama Youngers.
It has inked the overall del with Percelle Ascott and Joivan Wade, who run Wall of Production with Tafara Makopa. The deal will see the company develop a raft of scripted and non-scripted projects at the Channel 4-backed network as it looks to bolster its programming for younger audiences.
The deal is unusual in the UK as overall development deals with broadcasters are few and far between.
The pair star and co-produce online drama Shiro’s Story and they starred in Youngers, which aired on E4. Ascott is also the lead in Netflix series The Innocents, whilst Wade is the lead in Warner Bros. and DC Comics’ series Doom Patrol.

Ever since Netflix entered the original television game with the debut of “House of Cards” in February 2013, the term “binge-watching” has become the default word to describe the act of streaming multiple episodes of a series in a short period of time. The streaming giant singlehandedly popularized the act of binge-watching, but it turns out Netflix is not too fond of the word. Guy Pearce revealed on the Empire Film Podcast he was prohibited by Netflix to talk about binge-watching in interviews promoting his Netflix series “The Innocents.”
“I don’t think Netflix likes the term ‘binge,'” Pearce said when asked by Empire if viewers would binge-watch “The Innocents.” “When we did the promotion for [‘The Innocents’] in the [United States], we were strictly sort of instructed beforehand not to talk about ‘binge-watching.'”

[Editor’s Note: The following article contains spoilers from Season 1 of “The Innocents,” including the finale.]
“The Innocents,” Netflix’s British/Norwegian series that puts a supernatural twist on the star-crossed romance, concluded on quite the cliffhanger. After eight episodes in which young lovers June (Sorcha Groundsell) and Harry (Percelle Ascott) ran away from home only to discover she’s a shapeshifter, their adventures came to a violent, disastrous end.
In the action-packed episode, after secrets are revealed and sacrifices are made, two people end up dead, one person is in police custody, two people are rendered comatose, and June is mortally wounded. IndieWire spoke to the cast and crew of the series about the finale and whether or not Season 2 is in the cards. While creators Hania Elkington and Simon Duric couldn’t confirm the series will continue, their caginess was perhaps the best indicator that a second season seems likely.

As doomed romances go, “Romeo & Juliet” is the pinnacle of young love, outsized emotions, and disastrous decision-making. What often falls by the wayside, however, is the part that the adults play in creating the conditions for the inevitable tragedy. Netflix’s “The Innocents” highlights this side of the conflict and how the central teenage lovebirds inherit the mess that their elders have made, often in the name of a horribly misguided love.
June (Sorcha Groundsell) leads a sheltered, claustrophobic existence thanks to her controlling dad John (Sam Hazeldine), who keeps her from having any sort of life outside of her classes and caring for her agoraphobic brother Ryan (Arthur Hughes). But on the eve of her 16th birthday — the day that John plans to move the family to a remote island even further removed from people — she and her secret boyfriend Harry (Percelle Ascott) run away together to London.

There may be no feeling more identifiable than those teenage years—the sensation of being out-of-place, clumsily mishandling your nascent adult powers and oftentimes stuck in the wrong skin altogether. This itchy sensation has long been the province of superhero comics and movies—it’s what fuels, say, the long-running “Spider-Man” franchise. And it’s put to clever and evocative use in Netflix’s “The Innocents,” a new series whose lead character (Sorcha Groundsell) has the power to shift between bodies; unlike most superheroes, though, she can barely control her gift and seeks to keep it hidden. Teens, the show’s obvious intended audience, will relate to “The Innocents'” high dudgeon, but adults will find a show that punches above its weight, defined by both its stirringly dramatic tone and the two charming performances at its center.
