Exclusive: Canadian actress Samora Smallwood has launched her own production company, Hold One Entertainment. The indie debuts with a greenlight from Bell Fibe’s streaming channel TV1, a rom-com series called Coming Home.

Smallwood will star and make her directorial debut in the show, which is billed as an adult coming-of-age story “that explores the humorous and poignant realities of returning to one’s roots while striving to build a future in the art.” Inspired by Smallwood’s personal experiences, it will explore the spaces between her small hometown and Hollywood.

Cast also includes Robert Ifedi (Madam Cj Walker, What We Do in the Shadows), Tommy James Murphy (Last Resort), Kevin Hanchard (Hudson & Rex, Orphan Black), Karen LeBlanc (Ginny & Georgia, Lovecraft Country) and Paula Brancati (Slasher, Degrassi: The Next Generation).

Filming will begin in the fall in Grimsby, Ontario and the Greater Toronto Area. Hold One produces alongside Kalkaden Productions and RavinMurph Pictures.

The Way Home is a unique Hallmark series with time-travel, three generations, and a stunning cast of new and familiar faces. Exclusive: One Night Stand actor Matthew Sauvé will star in a limited series about his experiences with addiction.

Sauvé will star in Disrepair alongside Tommy James Murphy (Last Resort) and Samora Smallwood (Star Trek: Discovery), with Bell Canada’s streaming channel TV1 the commissioning network.

Co-creators are Sauvé, Murphy and Andrew Ravindran (Friendly Visit), who is directing. They produce the series under their newly formed banner, RavinMurph Pictures. With an overall focus on redemption stories, they filmed the post-dystopian-world suspense thriller Midnight Dreamers and are developing a comedy, among many others.

Canadian songwriter Simon Wilcox, known for the Twilight soundtrack and Nick Jonas’ song ‘Jealous’ has been tapped to create original music.

Filming on the redemption story is set to begin in the small town of Oshawa, Canada, where the series is set, and the Toronto area later this spring. A fall launch date has been set.

The short stars Samora Smallwood (“Star Trek: Discovery”) as Sara, along with Naomi Snieckus (“Mr. D”) as Elena and Prince Amponsah (“Station Eleven”) as Davey.

It tells the story of “a woman who finds the strength to confront her greatest fear by relying on the comfort of strangers.”

Exclusive: Sean Astin (Stranger Things) and Craig Parker (Good Trouble) have signed on to star alongside Domenica Cameron-Scorsese in Jason Mac’s political thriller, A Social Contract — the filmmaker’s follow-up to his directorial debut A Father’s Legacy, which was released by Cinedigm last year.

In the film exploring the dynamics and social constructs of power, relationships and government, a political dinner turns deadly when a group of power-starved politicians fight for a seat of survival on a helicopter at the onset of a nuclear war. While Astin will play the lead role of Senator Bennett Wilde, details as to Parker’s part haven’t been disclosed.

Repped by Raven Banner Entertainment, the film is directed by Audrey Cummings and stars Alysa King, Samora Smallwood and Aaron Chartrand.
