The world of entertainment has no shortage of mystery thrillers, but Prime Video is about to take a crazy and unhinged spin on the classic question: Who can you trust? With its upcoming series, The Girlfriend, the streamer adds a dangerous spin on the classic theme by flipping a mother-son bond into a suspenseful thriller.
Shot across London and Spain, the series is an adaptation of Michelle Frances’ bestselling novel of the same name and is elevated by Robin Wright’s dual role as the lead actress as well as the director.
Starring Olivia Cooke in a prominent role as well, the series has already positioned itself as an escalating web of suspicion, manipulation, and power dynamics with a mother-son bond at the center of it all. As the tale unravels on screen, we can expect the series to take a deep dive into themes of maternal instinct, privilege versus ambition,...

It was not long ago that Kate Beckinsale was showing off her bruises and injuries from the set of Canary Black on her Instagram. She was responding to a criticism that the stunt performers did the heavy lifting for Beckinsale in the film. In December 2024, she filed a lawsuit under the pseudonym ‘Jane Doe’ against her Canary Black producers for creating an unsafe working environment.
Recently, she amended her complaint to include communications with the defendants, thus revealing her identity. She detailed in her lawsuit that the producers were negligent of an injury she suffered on the sets of the film. She accused the producers of forcing her to continue to work, thus aggravating her injury.

Kate Beckinsale suffered for her art when filming her hit Prime Video action movie Canary Black and showed off several war-wounds on her Instagram account around the time of the movie’s release in 2024. However, the actress has now launched legal proceedings against the producers of the film for negligence and exposing her to “dangerous and unsafe conditions” during filming.
As reported by Puck, Beckinsale is suing Anton Entertainment and producer John Zois for both negligence, “intentional infliction of emotional distress,” and battery in a lawsuit that was originally launched in May. According to the details of the claim:
"Ms. Beckinsale and her team repeatedly raised red flags regarding unsafe conditions on and off set to Defendants, including long, dangerous set days, often lasting fifteen hours, inadequate equipment and medical personnel to help manage the high physical workload and recover from the exertion off set, and failure to adequately inform Ms.

Things were seemingly all quiet on the Greenland front. But the sequel to the Gerard Butler disaster film is back on the radar with a little blip. The original Ric Roman Waugh thriller, Greenland, starred Butler and Morena Baccarin and follows a family’s struggle to get to emergency proceedings as they’re selected for shelter from the impending doom of a comet hurling toward our planet. Unlike most disaster films, this story was told from the perspective of everyday citizens simply trying to evade the crazy panic of the population and government proceedings in order to seek refuge.
The sequel — Greenland: Migration — filmed last year, and now, it has received a rating from the MPA. Greenland: Migration will be rated PG-13 for some strong violence, bloody images, and action. Screenwriter Chris Sparling returned to co-write this entry with Mitchell Lafortune. The plot reads, “The Garrity family must leave the...

Exclusive: Former Anton exec John Zois (The Night House) and current north.five.six. CEO Warren Goz (The Marksman) have launched Parallel 42 Entertainment, an LA-based film and TV development and production company that will focus on commercially driven projects across the action, thriller, sci-fi, and horror genres.
Zois, who spent the last six years helping build UK-based financier and production company Anton, will oversee the creative and operational aspects of the new indie. Parallel 42’s film slate will include mix of features and series—ranging from low-budget horror to large-scale commercial action—developed for studios, streamers, independent partners and cable.
As CEO, Goz will bring his background in production, financing, and sales to help guide and support the company’s projects.
The company is currently developing projects with filmmakers including Brad Anderson, the Dowdle Brothers Michaël R. Roskam, Nimród Antal, Jason Winer (Brother From Another Mother), and Rob Lorenz (In The Land of Saints & Sinners).
The firm will look to work with a range of sales partners on its projects but will also likely have a strong connection to north.five.six. given Goz’s ongoing role there.
Zois, who also has worked at Global Road and Im Global, most recently produced the upcoming sequel Greenland: Migration, starring Gerard Butler and set for release by Lionsgate later this year; and the upcoming Amazon UK original series The Girlfriend, starring Robin Wright and Olivia Cooke.
Goz, with north.five.six., has recently worked on movies By Any Means starring Mark Wahlberg, Regretting You, the adaptation of the Colleen Hoover novel starring Dave Franco and acquired by Paramount, and Bartali, starring Miles Teller. Previously, he served as CEO of Sculptor Media, where he produced and developed various features including the 2023 Cannes entry Asphalt City.
“I am thrilled to be working with John and to build Parallel 42,” said CEO Warren Goz. “We are dedicated to making this company an exciting home for creatives to express their visions. With John’s superb taste, and creative production experience across all genres and levels of project, we are confident that we can achieve this.”
“There’s a massive opportunity right now to build a company that is nimble, creative-led, and commercially ambitious,” added Zois. “Parallel 42 will be a place where filmmakers can take big swings with real support behind them every step of the process—telling stories that connect and stay with you, whether they unfold over two hours or across an entire season.”...

Mothers’ Instinct: Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain thriller gets a new trailer ahead of July release
Mothers’ Instinct, a remake of the 2018 Belgian film Duelles, went into production back in May of 2022, with Academy Award winners Anne Hathaway (Les Misérables) and Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye) – who also happen to be close friends in their personal lives – in the lead roles. Once filming had wrapped, Hathaway revealed that her role in the film was the hardest she had ever played, as it tapped into her own worst fear. Soon, we’ll have the chance to see her performance, as Mothers’ Instinct is set to receive a limited theatrical release on July 26th, with a digital release to follow on August 13th… and with those dates coming up soon, a new trailer for the film has arrived online. There is nothing as haunting as a mother’s grief over losing a child.
Anne Hathaway stars as a woman whose son has a fatal fall from her balcony, with Jessica Chastain playing her best friend and neighbor. Benoît Delhomme directs the domestic drama “Mothers’ Instinct,” which is a remake of Olivier Masset-Depasse’s 2017 Belgium film “Duelles” based on the novel “Derrière la Haine” by Barbara Abel.
Director Masset-Depasse won a record-breaking nine Magritte Awards from the Belgian Academy including Best Film and Best Director for the original film “Duelles.” Writer Sarah Conradt (“50 States of Fright”) adapted the English language script.
The official synopsis reads: Set in the 1960s, “Mothers’ Instinct” centers on best friends and neighbors Alice (Chastain) and Celine (Hathaway), who live in a suburban paradise. Both are mothers to two sons of the same age, and their idyllic domestic happiness is shattered after a tragic accident.

In 2020, audiences would watch a global disaster unfold in front of their eyes, and ironically, that year would also bring us the disaster movie Greenland. Talks of a sequel have been going on for a while and Deadline now reports that Greenland: Migration is set to film this April with the cast returning along with Ric Roman Waugh and screenwriter Chris Sparling. Sparling co-writes this entry with Mitchell Lafortune. The plot, according to Deadline, reads, “The Garrity family must leave the safety...
