Get My Gun Theatrical Release Announced for September
One of my favorite films out of last year’s inaugural Cinepocalypse festival in Chicago was Get My Gun, a tense and unusually smart revenge thriller with an amazing performance by star Kate Hoffman (you can read my original review here). It’s a movie I’ve been anxious for others to see, and now it looks like everyone will have their chance, as Get My Gun is getting a limited theatrical release beginning in September:

From the Press Release: Get My Gun, following its festival run, is now making its way onto the big screen at theaters in select cities this September. Met with critical praise from some of the top genre outlets, 'Get My Gun is an absolute triumph of a film - a smart and compelling script that is flawlessly executed by way of three powerhouse female performances.' ~ Stephanie Malone (Morbidly Beautiful)

Cinepocalypse 2017 Review: Get My Gun is Smart, Satisfying Exploitation
Get My Gun, the first narrative feature from documentary filmmaker Brian Darwas, begins as one kind of film and ends as something different. Along the way, it introduces at least one great character played by star Kate Hoffman giving one of my favorite performances of the year. What seems on paper to be a standard rape-revenge film is much more of a character drama—albeit one with plenty of blood and brutality before all is said and done.

We first meet Amanda (Hoffman) dressed as a nun on Halloween, pushing a baby in a swing. She sees a man she seems to recognize. She makes a phone call. “Get my gun,” she says. She grabs the man and the film flashes back an unspecified amount of time, when Amanda is working as a housekeeper in a sketchy hotel and training a new employee, Rebecca (Christy Casey), with whom she becomes fast friends.
