Channel 4 has renewed the psychological drama for a second season after the first became the UK network’s biggest scripted streaming launch on record, with episode one garnering more than a million views in its first seven days.

Channel 4 co-produced Season 1 of The Couple Next Door with Starz, but the Lionsgate brand was not mentioned in the press release for Season 2. Deadline has asked about Starz’s involvement.

Exclusive: Nashville and The Princess Switch star Sam Palladio has signed with UK agency United Agents. He continues to be repped by Gersh and Authentic Talent and Literary Management.

Palladio most recently starred in ABC’s Rebel, the drama series inspired by the life of activist Erin Brockovich. He will next be seen in the third installment of Netflix’s The Princess Switch franchise, in which he will reprise the role of Edward.

The Brit actor and musician is best known for his role as Gunnar Scott on Nashville. His credits also include AMC’s Humans and Showtime’s Episodes.

At United, Palladio will be repped by Ellie Blackford and Jess Alford. He is with Allison Band and Nate Steadman at Gersh. He was previously repped by 42 the UK.

IMDb TV, Amazon’s free streaming service, is not proceeding with picking up new seasons of canceled ABC drama series For Life and Rebel. The decision was made after the streamer evaluated the performance of the two shows’ existing seasons on the AVOD platform.

Season 1 and 2 of For Life became available on IMDb TV at the end of June through a deal with Sony Pictures TV; Rebel’s first season joined it on the service two weeks later under a pact with ABC Signature. Both agreements included an option for a new season order based on how the existing seasons performed on the platform, with the cast of both series available to continue.

Finding a new home for a canceled broadcast series is difficult and rarely successful, so the arrangements with IMDb TV were considered long shots, but TV studios often exhaust all avenues for their shows and talent before they throw in the towel.

Efforts to find Rebel a new home have come up empty.

Three months after its ABC cancellation, series creator Krista Vernoff announced Monday that the Katey Sagal drama will not be back for Season 2 on any network or streaming platform.

The first season of Rebel, which was canceled by ABC in May, is now available on IMDb TV, Amazon’s free streaming service.

I hear the agreement between IMDb TV and lead Rebel studio ABC Signature includes an option for a second-season order based on how Season 1 performs on the platform. The studio still has the cast, led by Katey Sagal, under options, I hear, making a second season a realistic possibility.

IMDb TV recently made a similar arrangement with Sony Pictures TV for another canceled ABC drama, For Life, whose first two seasons are currently streaming on the service. That series, starring Nicholas Pinnock, also is eying a potential new season on the AVOD platform if the trial run of its existing seasons does well.

On Friday, ABC opted not to renew five titles, but the most unexpected was Katey Sagal-starrer Rebel from Grey’s Anatomy showrunner Krista Vernoff. Now somewhat distanced from the news, Sagal and Vernoff broke their silence on the sudden cancellation, which came five episodes into Rebel‘s freshman run.

“The abrupt announcement that there would be no season 2 based on the response from our airings came a shock and a heartbreak,” Sagal wrote on Instagram. “Things take time to catch on. The network also passed on pickups for four pilots, the drama “Acts of Crime” from Sam Esmail and comedies “Adopted,” “Black Don’t Crack” and “Bucktown.” All for projects were produced by the ABC Signature banner.

“American Housewife” has aired five seasons and logged more than 100 episodes at ABC. It stars Katy Mixon, Diedrich Bader, Meg Donnelly, Daniel Dimaggio, Ali Wong, and Carly Hughes. Both Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19 were recently renewed for next season, with Vernoff set to continue at the helm of the duo. ABC announced Thursday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour that Spencer is joining the cast of forthcoming drama series Rebel.

Spencer will recur as Misha, “a brilliant cardiothoracic surgeon who has a painful romantic history with Nate (Fear the Walking Dead‘s Kevin Zegers), but can’t resist getting involved with studying the Stonemore heart valve for fear that she may have inadvertently harmed hundreds of patients,” reads the character description.

Mary McDonnell will be joining Katey Sagal on ABC's Rebel.

Per Deadline, the Major Crimes alum has been added to the recurring cast of the forthcoming ABC drama from Grey's Anatomy showrunner Krista Vernoff.

McDonnell will play Helen, a woman who is inspired by Rebel(Sagal), and doesn’t let her own illness define her as she and her daughter fight for their lives and for justice, according to the outlet.

Adam Arkin, who executive produces and directs the series, is also stepping in front of the camera as the CEO of the Stonemore Medical Corporation.

Daniella Garcia has been cast in the upcoming ABC series “Rebel” in a recurring role, Variety has learned exclusively.

The series stars as Katey Sagal as Annie “Rebel” Bello, a blue-collar legal advocate without a law degree. She’s described as a funny, messy, brilliant and fearless woman who cares desperately about the causes she fights for and the people she loves. When Rebel applies herself to a fight she believes in, she will win at almost any cost.

Garcia will star as Maddie, who is eight months pregnant with a complicated pregnancy. She is Helen’s daughter, and is understandably terrified that her mother’s defective heart valve will kill her before the baby is even born.

But there's some bad news for fans of A Million Little Things:

Rebel has been handed the plum post-Grey's Anatomy slot that Amlt has called home since 2019.

As a result, Amlt will be returning to its old stomping grounds on Wednesdays beginning April 7.

The series was moved to Thursdays during its first season in an attempt to boost the ratings.

ABC also announced that Grey's Anatomy and Station 19 would no longer be returning on March 4 as planned.

The rejigged Thursday lineup kicks off Thursday, March 11.

ABC has firmed up its midseason lineup, slotting premiere dates for new series Rebel, Home Economics and Pooch Perfect and setting new March return dates for its Thursday dramas.

Grey’s Anatomy, Station 19 and A Million Little Things, which originally were scheduled to come back from winter hiatus on March 4, will now be back March 11. The additional week is being provided as extra cushion amid unpredictable production interruptions and delays during the pandemic.

New drama Rebel, starring Katey Sagal and created by Krista Vernoff inspired by the life of Erin Brockovich today, will join ABC’s Thursday lineup starting April 8. It will replace 10 Pm anchor A Million Little Things, which will return to its former Wednesday 10 Pm time slot, succeeding For Life after its 10-episode Season 2 concludes.

Netflix is continuing what has now become an annual tradition of connecting its original Christmas movies with a special cameo featuring two key “A Christmas Prince” characters at the end of its Vanessa Hudgens-led “The Princess Switch” sequel.

In “The Princess Switch: Switched Again,” which launched Thursday, Duchess Margaret (Hudgens) is crowned queen of Montenaro, with many adoring friends and subjects in attendance, including her new husband, Kevin (Nick Sagar), her look-alike Stacy, a Chicago baker-turned-Belgravian princess who is also played by Hudgens, Stacy’s husband, Prince Edward (Sam Palladio), and her other look-alike, her scheming cousin Fiona.

But if you are paying attention to the other people in the crowd, you’ll notice three foreign royals cheering on Margaret in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment: Aldovia’s Queen Amber (Rose McIver), King Richard (Ben Lamb) and their new baby, Princess Elleri.

With Covid resurgence meaning that only the naughty are likely to risk large gatherings this holiday season, there will be even more reliance on home-viewing comfort food in the vein of “The Princess Switch: Switched Again.” Bringing back the same director, writers and lead actors from Netflix’s original 2018 success, this pleasant sequel provides the updated “Prince and the Pauper” conceit a new wrinkle in giving star Vanessa Hudgens yet a third lookalike character to play.

Though inevitably the formula wears a little thinner in spots this time, it’s a frothy fantasy that should satisfy viewers’ itch for confectionary-looking Christmas fluff. Netflix premieres the feature worldwide Nov. 19, and it should provide them with a year-end programming staple for some time to come.

Exclusive: The producers of popular Netflix franchises such as The Princess Switch and Christmas Prince have struck a book-to-film deal with novelist Adele Parks, one the biggest-selling women’s fiction authors in the UK.

Veteran U.S. producer Brad Krevoy’s (Dumb And Dumber) Mpca and BAFTA Breakthrough Brit Aj Riach’s (Set Fire to the Stars) UK-based Engage Productions have entered into the exclusive deal to produce the books, most likely for streamers.

The first book to be adapted will be Parks’ recent Sunday Times bestseller Just My Luck, followed by 2019 novel Lies Lies Lies. Krevoy, Riach and Parks are currently interviewing writers and plan to launch sales for Just My Luck in the UK immediately, followed by the U.S.

Netflix has released the official trailer for the highly-anticipated sequel to 2018’s 'The Princess Switch' starring Vanessa Hudgens in a triple role.

The follow-up movie sees Hudgens divide her screen time into a trio of personas: Chicago-based pastry chef Stacy DeNovo, a Belgravian princess, and a new blonde troublemaker named Fiona., reports TVLine.

'The Princess Switch 2' follows Vanessa Hudgens reprise her dual roles from the first instalment as Duchess Margaret and Princess Stacy, two lookalikes who crossed paths when former commoner Stacy took part in a baking competition located in Montenaro.

“After I read it I thought, ‘Ooh man, this is going to be a lot of work,'” Hudgens told Entertainment Weekly. “Three of me? Me, myself, and I! I was very excited to create yet another character and had such a blast doing so. I was told they wrote in a new character but I had no idea how much fun it would actually be.

Netflix dropped the trailer for “The Princess Switch 2” on Monday, revealing not one, not two, but three royally fantastic roles for Vanessa Hudgens in the follow-up to the streaming service’s 2018 holiday movie. And with triple the fun what could go wrong? Well, a lot, apparently.

In the trailer for “The Princess Switch: Switched Again,” which you can view via the video above, Stacy (Hudgens) is determined to get Margaret (also Hudgens) back together with her former lover Kevin by pulling yet another switch. It looks like the plan might actually be working until Margaret’s cousin Fiona (the third Hudgens) shows up and begins plotting to steal her crown.

ABC has given a straight-to-series order to the Erin Brockovich-inspired drama “Rebel” starring Katey Sagal, the network announced Wednesday.

Inspired by the present-day life of Erin Brockovich, Sagal will star as Annie “Rebel” Bello, a blue-collar legal advocate without a law degree. The character is described as “a funny, messy, brilliant and fearless woman who cares desperately about the causes she fights for and the people she loves,” according to the network. “When Rebel applies herself to a fight she believes in, she will win at almost any cost.”

The drama, written by “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Station 19” showrunner Krista Vernoff, is set to debut in 2021. Tara Nicole Weyr is attached to direct.
