'I Don't Think Kevin Is a Harvey Weinstein': Peter Five Eight Director Defends Casting Kevin Spacey
Image
Kevin Spacey faced many accusations of sexual assault or misconduct, but he hasn't been found guilty in court. His latest director, Michael Zaiko Hall, in whose film Spacey has the first leading role since his U.K. trial, has just defended the "controversial" decision to cast him.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Peter Five Eight's director Michael Zaiko Hall addressed the accusations against Kevin Spacey, arguing that the actor wasn't found guilty. The two-time Academy Award-winning actor was acquitted of nine charges of sexual misconduct in his trial in the U.K. in 2023. Since then, a Channel 4 documentary titled Spacey Unmasked addressed the actor's sexual accusations, featuring the testimonies of another 10 men who weren't involved in the 2023 trial. He was also acquitted of actor Anthony Rapp's claims after a jury in New York found that Rapp didn't provide enough proof to his claim that Spacey had sexually abused him.

Kevin Spacey’s First Lead Role Since U.K. Trial: Director Defends “Controversial” Casting
Image
Filmmaker Michael Zaiko Hall knew he was courting controversy when he cast Kevin Spacey as the lead in his thriller Peter Five Eight. Now, as the film is becoming available via various streaming services, the director is vehemently defending the decision to cast the two-time Oscar winner, citing the actor’s “rare talent.”

The film is Spacey’s first lead role since being acquitted of nine charges of sexual misconduct brought against him in a London trial in 2023. In May, a Channel 4 documentary titled Spacey Unmasked aired in which the testimonies of another 10 men, not involved with the trial, were featured. Their allegations include that Spacey pushed his groin into the face of an Old Vic worker while serving as the London venue’s director and that he masturbated in front of an aspiring actor as they watched Saving Private Ryan in a public theater. Spacey has vehemently denied the claims,...

Kevin Spacey Plays Up Creep Factor in Awkward, Awful Comeback Film
Image
Not that long ago, a dark thriller featuring Kevin Spacey as a smooth-talking stranger who arrives in a small town with an apparent vendetta against one of its inhabitants might have been a major movie event. He was, after all, a hugely popular and critically acclaimed actor, known for playing iconic villains from The Usual Suspects and Seven all the way up through House of Cards. His gift for intimate, Shakespearean malice could certainly boost a box-office haul.

But not this time: I saw Spacey’s new film, Peter Five Eight,...

Peter Five Eight: Kevin Spacey aims for a comeback in the trailer for his new thriller
Image
The trailer for Kevin Spacey’s new film, Peter Five Eight, has been released from Invincible Entertainment. The new trailer comes just a few weeks after Spacey released another of his annual Christmas video skits of him reprising his popular character from House of Cards, Frank Underwood. In his most recent entry, Spacey controversially brought in former Fox News host, Tucker Carlson, to interview him in character where he teased a race for the White House. And now, Spacey is back in his first leading role since controversy plagued his image and his career in 2017. In Peter Five Eight, Spacey seemingly adopts his Underwood-esque southern drawl again until it’s revealed that he’s an undercover contract killer.

Spacey is joined by Jet Jandreau, Rebecca De Mornay and Jake Webber. The film is directed by Michael Zaiko Hall, a former visual effects artist whose credits include The Incredibles 2,...

Kevin Spacey Is an Assassin in ‘Peter Five Eight’ Trailer
Image
Kevin Spacey plays a killer with no moral compass in the official trailer for Peter Five Eight, which marks his first leading role since his career imploded amid allegations of sexual misconduct in 2017.

Spacey’s assassin character, Peter, has a comedic streak as he’s called to a small mountain community to find a seemingly glamorous real estate agent with a dark secret, played by Jet Jandreau.

Peter targets Brenda, played by Rebecca de Mornay, for information at the urging of his powerful and shadowy boss, Mr. Lock, played by Jake Weber. Before long, guns are drawn and fired and car chases abound in the trailer as blood splatters and explosions disturb the sleepy town. Michael Zaiko Hall directs the feature.

Invincible Entertainment plans a limited release in theaters ahead of a home entertainment and video-on-demand rollout for the indie thriller that marks an attempt by Spacey to resurrect his...
