Channel 4 Greenlights ‘The Circle’ for Coronavirus Protocol-Friendly Season Three
Image
Channel 4’s hit format “The Circle” has been greenlit for a coronavirus protocol-friendly third season, while a celebrity version of the show is also on the way.

The Studio Lambert-produced format — which was picked up by Netflix in 2018 — will now be pre-recorded as opposed to airing live on certain days, and the show will also forgo a studio audience. Channel 4 has said the changes are in line with Covid-19 filming guidelines, which were released by the country’s broadcasters last month.

The production will resume shooting later this year in Manchester, with casting already underway.

“The Circle,” which is co-produced by Studio Lambert North and Motion Content Group, will see host Emma Willis return, while comedian Sophie Willan will also resume her voiceover role.

The format, in which “anyone can be anyone,” finds residents living in separate apartments and befriending each other using a social media platform called The Circle.

‘The Circle’: Channel 4 Confirms Season 3 & Celebrity Edition, As Studio Lambert Tweaks Format Amid Covid-19
Image
Channel 4 has confirmed one of the worst-kept secrets in British TV — that The Circle is going to be renewed for a third season. It has also revealed there will be a celebrity version for charity Stand Up To Cancer, and the show will be tweaked because of the coronavirus crisis.

The Studio Lambert and Motion Content Group format will return to Channel 4 in early 2021, opening with a week-long celebrity edition, before everyday contestants enter the reality show, in which they catfish their way to a cash prize. It follows Netflix renewing The Circle for a second and third season in the U.S.

Production on Season 3 will begin in Salford, Greater Manchester, later this year, but it will all be pre-recorded as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, meaning there will be no studio audience or live shows. Emma Willis and comedian Sophie Willan will reprise their roles as host and voiceover respectively.

The 2015 Slamdance Film Festival announces its lineup
While the Sundance Film Festival is the better known film festival located in Utah that runs in January, it is not the only one, as the Slamdance Film Festival has been running in the same place during the same month for over 20 years. The unique aspect of the Slamdance Film Festival, however, is its Narrative Features and Documentary Features program, which restricts its selection to films that are directorial debuts, made for under $1 million, and don’t have Us distribution. The 2015 incarnation of the festival is set to run from January 23rd to the 29th, and ahead of the festival’s premiere next month, organisers have unveiled the lineup for the aforementioned categories. The lineup is as follows.

Narrative Features Program:

Across The Sea (Turkey/USA), making its North American Premiere

Written and Directed by Nisan Dağ and Esra Saydam

Starring Damla Sönmez, Jacob Fishel, Ahmet Rıfat Şungar, Hakan Karsak,...

Dennis Rodman in The Apprentice (2004)
Slamdance Fest Sets Slate
Dennis Rodman in The Apprentice (2004)
The Sundance Film Festival dominates Park City in late January, but there is also the upstart Slamdance Film Festival. We’ve not really highlighted that fest or its program, but I always stay at Treasure Mountain Inn where Slamdance is headquartered and they’ve kind of grown on me. Last year they brought Christopher Nolan to speak (the fest had the good sense to program his first film) and Joe Mangianello came to vamp his male stripper docu. This year, there’s every chance of seeing Dennis Rodman, the flamboyant former rebounding machine and Bff of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, for the docu Dennis Rodman’s Big Bang In Pyongyang. So let’s all root for an international incident! Here are the films they’ll be playing from January 23-29:

Narrative Features Program

Across the Sea – Directors & Screenwriters: Nisan Dağ, Esra Saydam. (Turkey/USA) North American Premiere.

Details on the Karen Black Fund: “Karen has been waging a battle for over two years with cancer. She has not talked about this publicly because she was hoping it would be cured and she could call herself a cancer survivor. Karen was diagnosed with ampullary cancer in November of 2010. After suffering through nausea, fainting and losing over thirty pounds, she was finally declared Ned – No Evidence of Disease in July.
