The Rook Review: Starz Drama Is Heavy on Plot, But Light on Character
Myfanwy Thomas wakes up at Millenium Bridge in London surrounded by dead bodies.

She doesn't know how she got there, or what happened to the bodies. That's the hook for new Starz drama The Rook, which premieres tonight at 10/9c.

To say the series is a disappointment would be the understatement of the century. It leaves behind many parts of what made the novel it's based on a success.

It would have probably worked better if it was more faithful to the novel.

Emma Greenwell (Shameless) takes on the lead role and does her best as her character pivots her way through the dumbest of scenarios.

Emma Greenwell Doesn’t Know Who She Is or Who She Can Trust in Starz’s ‘The Rook’ Trailer (Video)
Starz released its trailer for original series “The Rook” on Tuesday, which stars a very confused — and very much in danger — Emma Greenwell.

“The Rook” is a supernatural spy thriller, which tells the story of Myfanwy Thomas (Greenwell), a woman who wakes up in the rain beside London’s Millennium Bridge with no memory of who she is and no way to explain the circle of latex-gloved dead bodies splayed around her. When Myfanwy discovers she is a high-ranking official in the Checquy, Britain’s last truly secret service for people with paranormal abilities, she will have to navigate the dangerous and complex world of the agency to uncover who wiped her memory — and why she is a target.

Watch the trailer above. In it, Greenwell wonders aloud, “What kind of monster am I?”

‘The Rook’: Spy Drama Made By “Naturally Duplicitous” Brits As Producers Explain Stephenie Meyer Exit – TCA

Emma Greenwell in The Rook (2019)
Exclusive: There is change at the helm of Starz’s upcoming spy thriller series The Rook, from Lionsgate and Liberty Global. Lisa Zwerling (Betrayal) and Karyn Usher (Bones) have come onboard as showrunners. They will replace in the role The Night Manager‘s Stephen Garrett who remains an executive producer. Meanwhile, Twilight‘s Stephenie Meyer who, via her production company originally brought The Rook to Lionsgate, is stepping away due to differences in creative visions of the project.

The behind-the-scenes change comes early in the production of The Rook, which is currently filming the first two episodes of its first-season order in London. The showrunner switch will have no impact on production, which will continue as scheduled. Salem Season 3 Episode 10 Review: Black Sunday
It's over...

The day has finally come, Heathens. After three glorious seasons, Salem said goodbye tonight. I'm just not ready for it to end!

At least the show went out with a proper ending on Salem Season 3 Episode 10. True to its warning, Black Sunday corrupted the town and nearly killed everyone. Not many were spared, including some of our main cast.

Salem has always felt like a fast-paced, supernatural thriller. It's creepy but with a dramatic edge, and it's not afraid to go there. (Case in point: the sibling incest on Salem Season 3 Episode 9.)

It makes sense that the finale would throw everything at us. Every twist and surprise to leave us wanting more. I loved that it wasn't a seamless "happily ever after" moment, because Salem isn't like that.

Did anyone expect all the sad endings this episode? I know it's the series finale, but seven of our main...

The Messengers: TV Show Cancelled; No Season Two for CW Series
You know that old line about "Please, don't shoot the messenger"? Well, The CW has done just that. The network has cancelled The Messengers after one season. Only three episodes have aired thus far.

On The Messengers TV show, a mysterious object plummets to Earth and explodes in a blinding flash. It sends out a shock wave that instantly connects five strangers. They receive extraordinary gifts, from inexplicable strength to the ability to heal others. The cast includes Shantel VanSanten, Jon Fletcher, Sofia Black-d'Elia, J. D. The move to cancel the series doesn't come as much of a surprise. The Messengers has performed quite poorly so far, even for a Friday night show. Last week's installment hit a new low with just 650,000 viewers and a 0.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic.

Diogo Morgado in The Messengers (2015)
'The Messengers' won't get a second season on The CW
Diogo Morgado in The Messengers (2015)
There will be no Second Coming for The CW's "The Messengers." Due to low ratings, unimpressive reviews and an impossible Friday time period, it was already a foregone conclusion, but now it's also official: "The Messengers" won't be back for a second season. Yes, it's a early for The CW to be prepared to go out on that limb, since only three episodes have aired. And yes, I'm already prepared for several people to talk about networks no longer giving shows time and whatnot. There are, however, realities that exist.  "The Messengers" actually premiered with a somewhat respectable 1.195 million viewers and a 0.3 rating among adults 18-49. The second week dropped to 771,000 viewers and a 0.2 rating among adults 18-49. Last week's new episode of "The Messengers" drew 651,000 viewers and did a 0.2 rating among adults 18-49. It did a coveted 0.0 rating and a 0 share among female viewers 12-17.  That, apparently, has been...

Shantel VanSanten Returns to CW For The Messengers
It’s always nice when one of the CW’s former stars returns to the network in a big way. One Tree Hill alum Shantel VanSanten will make her return to the CW by starring in its drama pilot The Messengers. For those of you keeping count at home, this means that if the pilot is given a series order, she’ll have to choose between it and her current starring gig on Fox’s cop drama Gang Related. Have no fear, fellow CW worshipers – VanSanten has put The Messengers in first position to Gang Related, meaning she’ll jump ship in a heartbeat so long as The Messengers moves past its pilot.

According to THR, The Messengers centers on a mysterious object that crashes down to Earth. There will be a group of seemingly unconnected strangers who die from the energy pulse from the object. They then awaken to...
