First Trailer For ‘The Conjuring 2’ Heads to a Creepy London
Grossing over $300 million on a $20 million budget back in 2013, The Conjuring led James Wan to take on Furious 7, but now he’s back in the realm of horror with a follow-up to his hit feature. Featuring the return of demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga), they travel to north London to help a single mother raising four children alone in a house plagued by malicious spirits.

The first trailer has now arrived ahead of another prime summer release from Warner Bros. teasing the spooky new story, one which will hopefully pack the same uneasiness. ‘The Conjuring’ Blu-ray Review
Stars: Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga, Ron Livingston, Lili Taylor, Shanley Caswell, Hayley McFarland, Joey King, Mackenzie Foy, Kyla Deaver, Sterling Jerins | Written by Chad Hayes, Carey Hayes | Directed by James Wan

Can horror movies be scary anymore? This is an interesting question because for the most part horror fans don’t watch horror expecting to be scared because they’ve seen it all before. When a little bit of magic happens and that twinge of fear does spark then that tends to make us enjoy the film even more. This is a rarity, especially in “Hollywood horror” but The Conjuring actually manages to get a few good scares.

The Conjuring is based on the true story of the Perron family who moved into an old Rhode Island farm house. Not long after moving in strange things start to happen when soon escalating to attacks on the family leading to the...

Rated: The Conjuring - Prepare to Sleep With the Lights On
The Conjuring managed to scare up a whole bunch of dollars at the box office this weekend, managing to pull in the highest opening for a horror film so far this year. I got the chance to check it out over the weekend, and am here to help you decide whether or not the newest horror film brings the genuine scares worth your money, or if it’s just smoke and mirrors.

Let me get this out of the way first...I’m not a horror fan. In fact, it’s a running joke amongst the staff here at Cinelinx that I’m a massive chicken when it comes to the horror genre, and I generally leave such things in other people’s hands. So consider this a review from the perspective of a non-horror fan who was taken to the film by his horror movie loving girlfriend...yeah. That...

Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson Set for The Conjuring Sequel
The Conjuring easily won the box office this weekend with $41.5 million and a sequel is looking likely. During the Bates Motel interview sessions at Comic-Con yesterday, Vera Farmiga let us know that she’s already signed on for another movie.

Vera Farmiga joined our table to discuss the first and upcoming season of Bates Motel, but also had a chance to talk about The Conjuring. While we’ll post the full interview soon, she mentioned that both her and Patrick Wilson signed a deal that included the both of them appearing in a sequel. It wasn’t mentioned if the same was the case with James Wan, and we’re hoping to have more details soon.

Previously: After all the positive reactions from early screenings ofThe Conjuring, New Line is expecting to have a big hit on their hands and is already developing a sequel. This news comes from Variety,...

Low-Budget Horror Movie Leaves Costly Fare Far Behind at Domestic Box Office
The Conjuring: ‘True story’ horror movie box office beats (much) costlier competition (Photo: Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson in The Conjuring) James Wan’s $20 million-budgeted horror movie The Conjuring, starring Best Supporting Actress Academy Award nominee Vera Farmiga (Up in the Air) and Patrick Wilson, may end up grossing about twice its production cost at the North American box office this weekend, July 19-21, 2013. According to studio estimates found at Box Office Mojo, The Conjuring scored a highly impressive $17.03 million from 2,903 venues on Friday — including $3.31 million from Thursday evening and midnight screenings. That means Wan’s generally well-received effort (see below) may end up boasting the biggest domestic opening ever for an original R-rated horror movie — well, if you pretend inflation doesn’t exist. Now, inflation plays no role among this weekend’s films: The Conjuring has been leaving far behind three other (way costlier) new releases: DreamWorks Animation’s...

Latest Horror Movie to Break Opening-Weekend Record at Domestic Box Office?
The Conjuring box office: Biggest opening weekend ever for an original R-rated horror movie? (Photo: Vera Farmiga in The Conjuring) The Conjuring, James Wan’s low-budget horror movie starring Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, collected an impressive $3.31 million from Thursday midnight screenings (July 18-19, 2013) according to studio estimates found at Box Office Mojo. That site’s Ray Subers is expecting The Conjuring, which has a somewhat surprising 84% approval rating and 7.3/10 average among Rotten Tomatoes‘ top critics, to gross close to $38 million from 2,903 locations by Sunday evening — thus leaving far behind this weekend’s crowded competition, which includes DreamWorks Animation’s Turbo, the Ryan Reynolds / Jeff Bridges actioner R.I.P.D., and the Bruce Willis / Mary-Louise Parker action sequel Red 2. (Update: “The Conjuring: ‘True Story’ Horror Movie Box Office Beats Costlier Competition.”) If Subers is right, the $20 million-budgeted The Conjuring will boast the biggest domestic opening ever for an original R-rated horror movie — that is,...

How to Tell If Your House Is Haunted, Courtesy of 'The Conjuring'
Based on the real-life case files of ghost-hunters Ed and Lorraine Warren (played here by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga), "The Conjuring" sees "Saw" director James Wan leave gore behind for throwback '70s horror, in both its period setting and old-school aesthetic. But it's not the first haunted house flick to bank on the husband and wife team's help to terrify audiences - their previous investigations-turned-movies also include "The Haunting in Connecticut" and, most famously, "The Amityville Horror."

So while the movie's scares are familiar, they're also remarkably effective, and thanks to strong reviews from audiences and critics, there's reportedly already a sequel to "The Conjuring" in the works. Which means it sounds like the famed paranormal investigators will soon be looking for new ghosts to bust. But what separates a garden-variety spooky house with creaky floorboards and bad plumbing from a movie-worthy one? Follow this handy guide to find out.

'The Conjuring' (2013) Movie Review
What truly scares usc In my opinion, it's largely the fear of the unknown. It's why when horror movies show us what's behind the curtain our fear begins to subside. A good horror director will use the idea of the unknown to their advantage, increasing the fear factor, while also improving the production's bottom line. In recent history director James Wan (Saw, Insidious) has used the fear of the unknown to his advantage and he does so again with The Conjuring, something of a Paranormal Activity meets The Exorcist, supernatural thriller certain to give even the most seasoned horror fan the chills. Like many horror films before it, The Conjuring makes use of the idea it is based on a true story. In this instance, the story of the Perron family who bought a place in the early '70s in Harrisville, Rhode Island that eventually turned into ten years living among the dead.

The Conjuring Writers Working on a Sequel
It's great to see such confidence in a genre project that you can greenlight a sequel before the first installment has even hit theatres. James Wan's 'The Conjuring' arrives in Us theatres this Friday and due to some early positive feedback from the preview screenings scribes Carey and Chad Hayes have been rehired to pen the sequel. The story based on the real life story of paranrmal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren will hopefully terrify audiences this weekend and see the sequel pushed forward for development. Patrick Wilson ('Insidious'), Vera Farmiga ('Bates Motel'), Ron Livingston ('Office Space'), Lili Taylor ('The Haunting'), Mackenzie Foy ('The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1'), Joey King, Hayley McFarland, Kyla Deaver and Shanley Caswell ('Detention') all star in 'The Conjuring'....

New Line Conjuring Up a Franchise
The powers-that-be over at New Line are expecting to scare up some decent box office cash this weekend as The Conjuring begins haunting theatres. In fact, they're so confident in the flick (which they should be since it's pretty awesome), they're already thinking franchise.

New Line president Toby Emmerich tells Variety that New Line is exploring a potential franchise based on the Warrens’ investigations, which also involved cases that wound up as the movies The Amityville Horror and The Haunting in Connecticut. “We have Lorraine’s permission and support, and we are working on developing another film,” Emmerich said.

Dread Central Hits the Black Carpet Hollywood Premiere of The Conjuring
Last night DC was on the black carpet for the premiere of James Wan’s new feature film, The Conjuring, where we spoke with many of the cast members and heard first-hand about the haunting 10-year experience the Perron family had inside that house in Harrisville, Rhode Island.

While working the press line, we were able to speak with one of the sisters, Andrea Perron; the paranormal investigator who witnessed it all first-hand, Lorraine Warren; as well as several members of the cast, including Mackenzie Foy, Joey King, Lili Taylor, Ron Livingston, and Vera Farmiga. Read on to see what everyone had to say about James Wan’s frightening new feature The Conjuring.

Mackenzie Foy (“Cindy Perron”):

On her character in the film: "I play Cindy Perron, one of the five sisters of the Perron family. She’s just a regular girl, a cool kid. Then all this paranormal...

New Line Wants a Sequel to The Conjuring
After all the positive reactions from early screenings of The Conjuring, New Line is expecting to have a big hit on their hands and is already developing a sequel. This news comes from Variety, who also revealed that New Line hopes to build a franchise around the Warrens’ past investigations.

Of course, all of this will depend on how The Conjuring performs at the box office, so we should have more details on potential sequels next month. The big question is whether or not New Line will wait for James Wan to return. He’s currently involved with the next Fast & Furious sequel and it may be more difficult to get him to commit to a sequel right away.

The Conjuring was directed by James Wan and stars Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Ron Livingston, Lili Taylor, Joey King, Shanley Caswell, Haley McFarland, Mackenzie Foy, Kyla Deaver, and Sterling Jerins. The...

The Conjuring (2013)
Title: The Conjuring Directed By: James Wan Starring: Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Ron Livingston, Lili Taylor, Joey King, Shanley Caswell, Haley McFarland, Mackenzie Foy, Kyla Deaver, Sterling Jerins Not only is “The Conjuring” loaded with nightmarish scenarios, but it boasts an exceptional amount of character development, making the experience far more than just a good scare, rather a truly thoughtful and all-consuming experience. Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) are a husband-wife team of demonologists. When they’re not giving lectures on their work, they’re making house calls. While the majority result in totally logical explanations for seemingly unnatural bumps in the night, occasionally they do encounter the [ Read More ]
