Exclusive: Amp International has taken world sales rights on the sci-fi film Touchdown from Bandit Country.

The film follows the story of five friends stranded across the world when meteor storms bring a new life form to Earth. As global authorities implement emergency controls and move in secret to eliminate the predator, the friends risk everything to survive as they come face to face with the monster.

The film stars Clinton Liberty (House Of The Dragon), Cressida Bonas (White House Farm), Will Attenborough (Dunkirk), Kai Luke Brummer (Moffie), Lily Frazer (Saint Maud) and Jason Flemyng (Boiling Point).

John Boyega will executive produce South African crime thriller “God Is Good” and oversee the movie’s soundtrack through his recently minted UpperRoom Records label. The project will be produced by former Sony International exec Josephine Rose’s Bandit Country.

Billed as “Prisoners” meets “City of God,” the movie is set in the Cape Flats area and will follow a pastor and detective who are on a collision course with a heinous gang lieutenant after a brutal act of violence.

Exclusive: John Boyega will executive produce South African crime-thriller God Is Good, which is being described by producers as in the vein of Prisoners and City Of God. The Star Wars and Pacific Rim star is also launching a record label, UpperRoom Records, which will oversee the film’s soundtrack.

God Is Good is being produced by fledgling UK production label Bandit Country, headed by former Sony International producer Josephine Rose (Slaughterhouse Rulez). Set in Cape Town’s Cape Flats, the English-language film will follow a reformed gangster-turned-pastor and a volatile detective who cross paths after an act of brutal violence sets them on collision course with a heinous gang lieutenant. Casting discussions are under way with shoot planned for spring of this year.

John Boyega Set To Produce a Fantasy Horror Thriller Called A Spriggan
John Boyega (Star Wars) has jumped on board an new fantasy horror film project called A Spriggan as an executive producer. The film will be developed in the UK and it comes from writer and director Keir Burrows (Anti Matter) and producer Josephine Rose (Slaughterhouse Rulez).

The story for the film follows "a recently widowed mother who returns to her father’s isolated hotel only to find a sinister folklore presence haunting the land."

In UK folklore, Spriggans were "depicted as spirits related to the trolls of Scandinavia. They were often characterized as grotesquely ugly, wizened old men with large child-like heads. Although small, they were often considered to be the ghosts of giants, with the ability to swell to far greater size. The character has become the subject of a host of manga series in Japan."

Exclusive: John Boyega will executive produce UK fantasy horror A Spriggan from writer-director Keir Burrows (Anti Matter) and producer Josephine Rose (Slaughterhouse Rulez) of new outfit Bandit Country.

The Star Wars actor joins via his Upper Room Productions banner, through which he recently co-produced Pacific Rim: Uprising, alongside Legendary Pictures.

Currently out to cast, creature feature A Spriggan follows a recently widowed mother who returns to her father’s isolated hotel only to find a sinister folklore presence haunting the land. The impressive crew includes two-time Oscar-winning VFX supervisor Neil Corbould and his company Neil Corbould Special Effects, which is handling special effects and creating the creature. Independent festival strand unveils 2017 line-up.

The line-up for the 2017 edition of the Venice Film Festival’s independent parallel strand Critics’ Week (Aug 30 – Sept 9) has been revealed.

Organised by the National Union of Italian Film Critics, the selection is curated by the general delegate of the Venice Critics’ Week Giona A. Nazzaro with the selection committee comprised of Luigi Abiusi, Alberto Anile, Beatrice Fiorentino and Massimo Tria.

Following last year, when UK filmmaker Alice Lowe’s directorial debut Prevenge opened Venice Critics’ Week, this year’s opener is again a feature debut from a UK female director.

Writer-director Deborah Haywood’s Pin Cushion will screen out of competition as the strand’s opening film. Starring Lily Newmark and Joanna Scanlan, the film is produced by Gavin Humphries with Maggie Monteith of Dignity Film Finance. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost have launched their very own film and television production banner, Stolen Picture, as reported by Deadline. The British duo will kick off their company, which will be based in the UK, with a comedy-horror film titled “Slaughterhouse Rulez,” to be helmed by “A Fantastic Fear of Everything” director Crispian Mills.

I Am Bolt and Class of 92 producer Fulwell 73 is in development on Ibiza87, a TV drama series charting the rise of electronic dance music in the late 1980s.

Loosely based on the exploits of UK DJs Danny Rampling, Paul Oakenfold and Nicky Holloway - all of whom are attached to the project - the series chronicles the story of a group of friends from south London who became well known DJs at the forefront of the acid house and electronic dance music scene.

Toronto crime drama will screen to potential buyers at Afm following £3.7m UK run.

UK outfit Independent Film Sales has boarded Noel Clarke’s UK box office success Brotherhood for international sales

The Toronto title will screen to buyers during the American Film Market.

Brotherhood is the third film in multi-hyphenate Clarke’s urban crime series which began with 2006 title Kidulthood.

The movie, about a former gang member struggling to adapt to a new way of life, has grossed £3.7m in the UK following its late August release.

Clarke, the most prolific black actor in UK film, wrote, stars in and directed the movie. Under his Unstoppable Entertainment banner he produced the feature alongside Jason Maza and Gina Powell. Also producing were Maggie Monteith’s Dignity Films Finance.

Executive producers are Damian Jones, Zygi Kamasa, Nick Manzi, Nicola Pearcey, Chris Reed and Josephine Rose.

Exclusive: Late November shoot set for third instalment in urban trilogy; Lionsgate to handle UK distribution.

Principal photography is due to get underway at the end of November on Noel Clarke’s Brotherhood, the third and “final” instalment in a trilogy that also includes Kidulthood (2006) and Adulthood (2008) [pictured].

Unstoppable Entertainment and Maggie Monteith’s Carpalla Films have begun pre-production on the drama from BAFTA-winner Clarke, who has written the screenplay and will also direct and star.

Although plot and cast details are under wraps, Clarke (Star Trek Into Darkness) will reprise his role as protagonist Sam in the feature, which is slated for release in the UK in 2016 to tie in with the 10-year anniversary of Kidulthood, which opened number one at the UK box office.

Sequel Adulthood grossed more than £3.3m ($5m) at the UK box office in 2008.

Shoot is scheduled to last five weeks in and around west London.

Principal photography has wrapped on Dad’s Army, with Universal Pictures releasing in UK on Feb 5, 2016.

Written by Hamish McColl and directed by BAFTA award-winner Oliver Parker, the remake of the classic UK series stars Bill Nighy, Catherine Zeta Jones, Toby Jones as Captain Mainwaring, Tom Courtenay and Michael Gambon.

“This feature film re-imagining of the characters from the original comedy series, which remains a cultural heritage, is sure to please all audiences,” said Niels Swinkels, managing directorof Universal Pictures International UK & Eire.

The film was shot entirely on location in Yorkshire for seven weeks, beginning in early October and ending on Dec. 3.

“[Yorkshire’s] stunning locations give the film an epic scale and the people were beyond helpful” said producer Damian Jones.

The first images from comedy reboot Dad’s Army have been released as well as fresh cast details.

Universal Pictures, Screen Yorkshire and DJ Films have released the first images from British comedy reboot Dad’s Army.

The ensemble playing the Home Guard during the Second World War includes Bill Nighy as Wilson, Toby Jones as Captain Mainwaring, Tom Courtenay as Corporal Jones, Michael Gambon as Godfrey, Blake Harrison as Pike, Danny Mays as Walker and Bill Paterson as Fraser.

Some quick acquisition news for you cats to chew on... Anchor Bay has secured the rights for the Ford brothers' highly anticipated sequel to their film The Dead, entitled The Dead 2: India; read on for details.

Anchor Bay Films has acquired the rights to the award-winning film The Dead 2: India, the highly-anticipated follow-up to the company’s 2012 release of The Dead. Written and directed by Howard J. Ford and Jon Ford (Mainline Run, Distant Shadow, The Dead), stars Joseph Millson (Casino Royale, Enid) in this critically-acclaimed epic zombie road movie. The company has acquired the theatrical, home entertainment, digital and VOD rights for the U.S. and Canada. The announcement was made today by Bill Clark, President of Anchor Bay Entertainment.

Stalled M.I.A. doc begins shoot

Britdoc backs feature that was on hold due to funding issues.

Production has begun in London on a feature documentary about the life of musician M.I.A.

The film is directed by Steve Loveridge, who reportedly stepped down from making the documentary in July.

At that time, Loveridge used his Tumblr account to leak a teaser trailer for the film, which was later removed.

According to an email posted to Loveridge’s site, a representative from Roc Nation claimed “the timing of this leak … screws with everything we’ve been working on”.

“I know how frustrated you must be with the [film],” they wrote, “but I promise we’ve been having ongoing conversations internally, trying to get legal stuff and funding resolved, it Is going to move forward and get done in time for this album cycle and festivals.”
