Peacock is ready with an entertainment-packed August this year. The upcoming month will see the release of the much-anticipated legal drama series, The Rainmaker, as well as the streaming release of the dark comedy thriller film, Borderline. Borderline is a dark comedy thriller film written and directed by Jimmy Warden. The 2025 film is set in the 1990s in Los Angeles, and it follows pop star and actress Sofia Minor as she comes under attack by Paul Duerson, an obsessive and deluded fan. Borderline stars Samara Weaving, Ray Nicholson, Jimmie Fails, Alba Baptista, and Eric Dane.

1997 marked the establishment of Matt Damon as a household name. His greatest accomplishment of that year, of course, is the beloved Good Will Hunting, which he co-wrote with Ben Affleck and co-starred in with Affleck and Robin Williams, catapulting him to immediate success. However, less than a month prior, he got the chance to be the leading man in The Rainmaker, an adaptation of John Grisham's 1995 novel of the same name, written and directed by The Godfather mastermind Francis Ford Coppola. In the context of Damon's career, the legal drama largely exists in the shadow of the titanic roles that came after, from The Departed to Ocean's Eleven, The Martian, and beyond. Starting on July 1, though, viewers will have a chance to revisit the acclaimed film on Paramount+.

The Rainmaker pairs Damon up with Danny DeVito in one of the It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia star's rare dramatic roles.

The Rainmakerhas revealed its release date at the USA Network, bringing the John Grisham novel to the small screen. Previously adapted into a 1997 film, which was directed by Francis Ford Coppola and starred Matt Damon, The Rainmaker's television adaptation is part of the USA Network's plans to once again have more of a presence in the scripted programming space, giving the popular legal drama genre some very personal stakes.

After the television adaptation was first announced in June 2024, a press release confirms that The Rainmaker will be released August 15. The legal thriller will debut on 10 Pm Et on USA Network, with episodes being available to stream on Peacock a week later.

In the trailer, which can be seen below, Rudy Baylor (Milo Callaghan) loses his job at a prestigious law firm on his first day. With no other options, he is forced to work for a lawyer (Lana Parilla) operating out of an old fast food restaurant. But once he takes on his first case, he discovers two connected conspiracies surrounding the death of a client’s son, putting him at odds with not only his old boss but also his girlfriend.

The cast of the series also includes John Slattery, Madison Iseman, P.J. Byrne, Dan Fogler, Wade Briggs and Robyn Cara. “The Rainmaker” will premiere on USA Network on Aug. 15 at 10 p.m. Et/Pt, with episodes available to stream on Peacock one week after their linear debut.

Michael Seitzman serves as executive producer and showrunner.

The Rainmaker television series is moving forward, with Variety reporting that Wade Briggs has been cast in a regular role. The performer will be stepping into the shoes of Brad Noonan, an attorney from the Tinley Britt Law Firm who will take on cases without hesitation. The cast of the adaptation continues to grow, with USA Network preparing to take this gripping drama from the page to the screen. Lionsgate Television and Blumhouse Television will produce the show. Michael Seitzman will serve as both an executive producer and a writer for the project.

“The Rainmaker” series adaptation at USA Network has added Wade Briggs in a series regular role, Variety has learned exclusively.

Based on the John Grisham novel of the same name, the show was picked up at the basic cabler back in June. Briggs will appear alongside previously announced cast member Milo Callaghan, John Slattery, Madison Iseman, Lana Parrilla, P.J. Byrne, Robyn Cara, and Dan Fogler.

Dampyr is a new horror-fantasy movie on Netflix based on an Italian comic book series. The movie boasts a cast of both recognizable and little-known actors, creating an interesting ambiance. The main character, Harlan Draka, played by Wade Briggs, discovers his supernatural powers when faced with real vampires.

Recently, Netflix added a new horror-fantasy movie to its roster entitled Dampyr, and this movie's cast were definitely successful when it came to bringing this story to life. The movie Dampyr is based on an Italian comic book series written by Sergio Bonelli Editore. It tells the story of Harlan, a con-man who pretends to rid towns of vampires. However, when he and his friends come face-to-face with real creatures of the night, Harlan must hone the supernatural powers he didn't know he had in order to survive.

The cast of Dampyr is fairly small, but there are some recognizable names involved.

Italy’s Lucca Comics & Games, which is Europe’s biggest pop-culture and cosplay meet, is back in full post-pandemic swing with a slew of premieres and high-caliber talent set to engage with thousands of fans in the medieval Tuscan town.

The immersive Oct. 28-Nov. 1 event, dedicated to fandom and the whole universe of comics — including movies, TV and music – has been increasingly gaining traction with studios and streamers. So much so that Netflix has chosen Lucca to launch Tim Burton’s “Wednesday” series, starring Jenna Ortega as gothic feminist icon Wednesday Addams. Cameras are rolling on “Dampyr,” the live-action movie adaptation of the popular independent comic book franchise. Wade Briggs (“Please Like Me”) will play Harlan, the Dampyr, in the $12 million fantasy action thriller, which is being helmed by Riccardo Chemello.

Stuart Martin (“Jamestown) has signed on to play Emil Kurjak, and Frida Gustavasson (“Arne Dahl”) plays Tesla. The cast also includes David Morrissey (“Good Omens”) as Gorka, Sebastian Croft (“Game of Thrones”) as Yuri, and Luke Roberts (“300: Rise of an Empire”) as Draka.

The movie is a co-production between Eagle Pictures, Italian comic book giant Sergio Bonelli Editore, and production outfit Brandon Box.

What do you get when you mix Shakespeare and Shonda Rhimes? Obviously the answer is Still Star-Crossed, the latest addition to the ShondaLand canon, an Elizabethan-period drama that picks up where Romeo and Juliet left off. Alas, as it turns out, the death of the doomed lovers did not bring about peace in fair Verona... Still Star-Crossed, the novel by Melinda Taub, is an interesting and clever look at the world Shakespeare didn’t actually lay out all that distinctly in Romeo & Juliet. It’s equal parts fan fiction and development cheat by appropriation, but it spins a decent yarn and delivers an updated sense of drama. It’s not only solid Ya entertainment, but it’s just the sort of effort we could use more of, both as an enticement to read more and backward entry into other literature.

Still Star-Crossed, the show, dresses up the idea wonderfully but renders it all rather lifeless by trying to out-drama itself at every turn in a decidedly Shondaland morass of overworked histrionics. Oddly, this manages, at points, to come full circle and become interesting again by offering up near-cornball drama in situations that actually require all the drama you would think you could muster.

Inspired by the novel by Melinda Taub, ABC's new summer series, Still Star-Crossed, ramps up the action and drama after Romeo and Juliet die, and the treacherous feud between the Montague and Capulet families that continues to rage on. But another forbidden romance presents itself at the end of the premiere episode and that will certainly ruffle 17th century feathers as the season progresses.
