Wilson Cruz missed filming Star Trek: Discovery's finale epilogue due to commitment to Mother of the Bride in Thailand. Paramount+ greenlit 3 days of filming a coda for Discovery's emotional series finale in Spring 2023. Dr. Hugh Culber still appeared in the final moments thanks to CGI, despite Wilson Cruz's absence.
Star Trek: Discovery's Wilson Cruz explains how his commitment to Netflix's Mother of the Bride caused him to miss filming Discovery's series finale epilogue. However, Dr. Hugh Culber did appear in Discovery's finale coda. Following Paramount+'s announcement that Star Trek: Discovery would end with season 5, the streamer greenlit 3 days of filming a coda for the series in Toronto in Spring 2023. While the entire Star Trek: Discovery cast led by Sonequa Martin-Green returned for the emotional epilogue, Wilson Cruz had to bow out because his role as Scott in Mother of the Bride required him to be in Thailand at the same time.

Dr. Hugh Culber from Star Trek: Discovery did not encounter the weird koala from Star Trek: Lower Decks after his resurrection. Culber's resurrection in the mycelial network was different than Brad Boimler's resurrection on Lower Decks. While Culber didn't meet the koala, it still exists in the shared continuity between Lower Decks and Discovery.
Did Star Trek: Discovery's Dr. Hugh Culber (Wilson Cruz) see the weird koala from Star Trek: Lower Decks after dying in Discovery season 1? The cosmic koala in Lower Decks holds the fate of certain characters in its furry hands, as established when Lt. Brad Boimler (Jack Quaid) died in Lower Decks season 4, episode 3 "In the Cradle of Vexilon", and encountered the koala before being resurrected. Discovery's Dr. Culber died at the hands of Lt. Captain Burnham will lead the crew of the USS Discovery on one final mission in 2024, and a new clip finally showed just what the team is up against.
Star Sonequa Martin-Green introduced the series-ending clip alongside showrunner Michelle Paradise at Ccxp in São Paulo, Brazil, on Saturday. In the scene, Captain Burnham is joined by Cleveland “Book” Booker (David Ajala) as they face off against a shape-shifting being that also can cloak, making it a doubly formidable opponent.
“We have to get past it,” Burnham said. “See if you can communicate with it.” After Book communicated with the creature via his mind, Burnham asked, “Did you pick up anything?”
“Yeah,” Book told her. “It’s really pissed off.”
Per the season description, “The fifth and final season will find Captain Burnham and the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery uncovering a mystery that will send them on an epic...

Star Trek: Lower Decks pokes fun at the frequent character resurrections in the franchise, highlighting the running joke of bringing characters back from the dead. Several Star Trek characters, such as Dr. Hugh Culber and Neelix, have been resurrected through advanced technology or supernatural means. Notable characters like Captain James T. Kirk, Jean-Luc Picard, and Data have experienced resurrection, bringing them back to continue their adventures in the Star Trek universe.
On Star Trek, the dead don't always stay dead. Since Star Trek is set in the far future, the characters have access to much more advanced technology than anything found in the present day. Sometimes, this technology makes miracles happen and resurrects characters from the dead. While several characters throughout the various Star Trek films and shows have died and stayed dead, plenty have been resurrected. Whether they were only dead for a few hours or a much longer period of time,...

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2 would benefit greatly from avoiding a classic franchise death trope. Strange New Worlds season 1 won over new and old audiences with its embrace of classic Star Trek themes and structures. Combining the retro aesthetic of Star Trek: The Original Series with the episodic, character-of-the-week structure of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Strange New Worlds enjoyed a first season that felt fully realized in a way very few Star Trek shows have pulled off in their debut year.
Strange New Worlds' impressive cast of characters was so fully realized that the untimely death of Chief Engineer Hemmer in the episode "All Those Who Wander" was a genuine emotional gut punch. It was a noble, beautiful end for a character that audiences were only just getting to know. That said, the show's producers should avoid the temptation to resurrect Hemmer.
